Summertime Watching

Okay, I made a few similar threads in the past. I don't know if you're like me, but I trend to read and watch things seasonally. So what are the films and tv programmes that you tend to watch when summer comes? Could be specific movies/tv shows, or specific genres.

    I am very active with training/exercise I am at the beach most days so tend to watch and read less in the Spring and Summer. One thing I do is listen to more music when the weather improves.

    Guarenteed I will listen to the Beach Boys and Old Skool rap from the 80's, summer always reminds me of my childhood.

    When I was younger I often read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in the summer months.

    Very random, but the first time I read Crime and Punishment was during the summer (obviously it's a really dark, dramatic novel, but I think it's set during summer, and there's something about reading it in the heat which makes it quite impactful). Not exactly a feel good book though!

    As for movies, I find summer's the perfect season for catching up on comedies.

    Don't really have as disciplined a watch of Telly/ movies in Summer, as I do in Winter/ Christmas, but I do tend to watch Jacques Tatis 'Monsieur Hulots Holiday' for obvious reasons! I plan to do a marathon of Tatis films soon, as I've recorded a few off television recently and I own the one I mentioned and the wonderful 'Jour de Fete'!

    I tend to watch spaghetti westerns and westerns, and sea adventures, like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. As a kid, I enjoyed Ray Harruhausen films during summertime particularly Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonauts. Things that had a summery, Mediterranean feel. I still do it.

    As for tv series, I love crime and spy thrillers. Regarding books: crime fiction, crime fiction, crime. Except in August, where I start reading horror, getting in the mood for Halloween. As a child, I used to read Mafalda as a cure from August/end of holidays blues.

    There's a few series on Netflix pretty suitable for summer: Fauda and Queen Sono come to my mind. Fauda is by far the best series I've seen in a long while, but Queen Sono is enjoyable and of course has that African feel.

    Oh, and Dr No is my go-to summer movie. The songs alone make it a summer movie.

    I think it's maybe the most summery Bond film.

    Another film I love to watch during summertime is The Talented Mr Ripley, albeit the second half of the movie is cold and dark. The atmosphere changes completely. So it's a suitable movie for Noirvember too. But the first part is like a hot, sunny holiday with sinister undertones.

    Very much so, except for the PTS.

    Something else I like to watch during summertime: sea life documentaries, particularly about sharks and whales. And of course, there's Jaws, come to think of it. Fittingly the first true summer blockbuster.

    TSWLM is the epitome of the Bond summer blockbuster of old. MR is too in my opinion.

    I associate MR with the end of winter, because the first time I watched it I was sick and it was in February. But I can see why it could be considered a summertime movie.

    It would be interesting to classify Bond films by season. Some are easier than others. And some have specific dates imbedded within them--IIRC, A View to a Kill is in the spring?

    Isn't there another thread already for that? A Bond for all season or something? Otherwise I'll be glad to create it.

    Nostalgic moment here: when I was a child, I used to spend a lot of my summer evenings watching sea life documentaries in the basement, especially during heatwaves. It was the only place I could be cool.

    It doesn't feel very summery here these days, but hey.

    Anyone into comedies this time of year? I'm partial to Marilyn Monroe, especially The Seven Year Itch. Absolutely hilarious. And very topical.

    Finished watching 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea recently, the old classic Disney film. Great one, and perfect for summertime.

    Summer TV Shows: Burn Notice would be my all time favorite summer vibes show, also enjoy putting on a random episode of The Saint or The Avengers

    Summer Movies: Summer Rental is the one absolute must for me - great John Candy romp. Others are Pirates of the Caribbean films, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Crazy Righ Asians, Happy Gilmore, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 (lol)

    In terms of Bond films, the one's that scream summer to me are TB, TSWLM, MR, LALD, OP, and LTK

    Just bought all Alan Parsons Project albums deluxe Boxset, that will be a summer staple going forward.

    I like how DN acts as a bridge in many ways as a bridge from the past in style and sound to the future and how cinema would change heavily influenced by Bond. DN will always be a very special film for me.

    Listening to LALD expanded soundtrack, San Monique is pure summer, this is one of the very best in the series, masterpiece by the legendary George Martin.

    The overall score has summer vibes. (Many connections to DN).
