Rank The (Credited) Screenwriters

We’ve discussed the rankings for Bond authors and directors. Why not do the same with screenwriters? Some of their trademarks are obvious, but there is a reason to notice them. Here’s mine:

1) Richard Maibaum. The original who saved Bond quite a few times. He was full of himself and criticized unfairly others for not interpreting his words correctly. But he is the best screenwriter for Bond, thank you.

2) Bruce Feirstein. He brought Bond into the modern era, in more ways than one. His work could be sloppy, but he is always welcome to me. I wish he would have written a Bond novel or made his games into novelizations.

3) Christopher Wood. He made Bond bigger than before. He was fairly original.

4) Michael G. Wilson. He took on two roles at once. That's brave.

5). Tom Mankiewicz. He was witty, and tried new things. It's a shame Guy Hamilton was so cynical.

That's all for now.

I’ll have to think long and hard about the others, but the best (with a big advantage to his films since he was working with Fleming’s novels (most of the time)), is Richard Maibaum… Plus he improved upon an interesting, yet silly concept in Goldfinger, and made the film better for it (and better than the novel)…

Maibaum's adaptations of the source material are pretty good, especially when it came to changing aspect of the story. I'd go as far as to say GF and even FRWL are arguably better than the novels.

    100% agreed.
