I think Brainiac is cursed when it comes to Superman movies. Every time he’s looked at as a villain, the movie gets canceled.

I hope for Superman Legacy and Supergirl that there's multiple villains in both of the films. No Lex or Zod! They should take a cue from other superhero movies where's multiple villains from the comics. They both have great villains that haven't been used, use them. Toyman, Metallo, Parasite, Brainiac, Silver Banshee, just to name a few. It's time!

By his remarks of giving Superman his dignity back, I assume that means not having his Superman commit murder.

I sold my disc copy when I found out that the 3 hour cut version was available as a bonus online. Having watched it once, I dug a lot of the extra stuff that got cut out such as when Superman actually intercepts the missile but then dodged him. It’s a good demonstration that Superman was already able to move fast enough to be ahead of the missiles, but the real trick was attempt to snatch it while mobile.

But then there’s the REALLY long winded stuff like the 30 minutes spent on following Otis and the detectives at Grand Central. I THINK that was perfectly cut in the theatrical.

LOL, well, it wasn't really 30 minutes, but I get your point. Yeah, I think he was planning to grab onto the missile instantly matching its speed then take it up. Tricky though, an impact might have triggered it. Plus, there is a speed limit for him in the atmosphere... too fast & he could ignite it.

Its a shame the TV version is not included (I do have it on bluray), its a great steelbook set and I have been looking to treat myself to something. The steelbook set will look good next to my Superman The Movie Limited Edition Bluray set.

    Happy Superman birthday to everyone!

On this day, 85 years ago, Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1!

    And some more great news!

Some of my hopes for the movie:

A lighter tone, but not MCU goofy.
Moving ahead from Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve a bit, but not completely ignoring their movie(s). Zack Snyder should NOT be involved.
More than one villain that we’ve never had cinematically before: Brainiac, Parasite, Toyman seem like characters James Gunn would use in his style.
No Lex or Zod or Batman! They’ve been done way too much.
Don’t kill off characters just for shock value.
Supergirl and the supporting cast get time to shine.
Use graphic novels as a influence. Geoff Johns and Mark Waid would great starting points.

    Happy Birthday to the Greatest.
  • Batman is my favorite but I have to agree that Superman is definitely the greatest.

I watched Superman Returns in the cinema this scene would have been incredible to open the film. The opening scene we got was just weird and awful.

    Yikes!

This is why I try to stick with the original sound mixes. Dolby Atmos didn’t exist when the Reeve films were produced, so it makes no sense to try to upgrade them.

No, Atmos is a clever system which adapts to your setup, so it does make sense.

The original mixes are still on the discs if you don't choose Atmos.

To me this is like if your smart tv has a feature that can colorize black and white films with an algorithm. I turn it off and stick to the original.

When I play my Bond blu-rays, I always set the older films to their mono and stereo surround mixes. I never like it when studios tinker with the sound mixes just because there’s consumers that want to utilize every speaker in their sound system. I’m always thankful when studios give that option of having the original mixes.

But it can also depend on how remasters are done. As far as I know, the Star Trek TOS movie blu-rays have 7.1 surround mixes, which didn’t exist back in the 80s. However, they tastefully replicated how the stereo surround matrix was utilized in the original sound mixes, so there’s no attempts at trying to update it with extra sounds added to make it more modern.

It sounds like this is what they tried to do with SUPERMAN IV, but something went wrong. It was a Cannon Film production, so I assume the resources on how to remaster the sound faithfully through the original sound stems were very limiting and not helpful. That’s really a shame, because I do think of Alexander Courage’s score as being the most successful element in IV when it comes to production. He did an excellent job of utilizing John Williams’ themes old and new.

At most Lex Luthor should only be a side character like he is in TAS while Superman has to fight a much bigger bad.

Yes, I’m thinking Brainiac, Parasite, or Toyman. They feel like villains James Gunn would use. I also feel that Supergirl might make an appearance as well.
  • Lobo also seems like a choice Gunn would use.

This means we should have a new core Superman cast by the end of the year!
