    The kind of spoofs I hate are those like Scary Movie and Epic Movie, because they’re not only trying to play up the comedy in a way that’s unfunny and grating, but they’re also super reliant on pop culture references with no real punchline to them.     There's at least some of The Naked Gun I like, mostly because of Leslie Nielsen's ever dignified attitude, even when his character was being utterly ridiculous. But as the 90s went on, they just went for cheap laugh.

    I can’t say I’m a fan of SPY HARD and WRONGFULLY ACCUSED.


    SCARY MOVIE 3 was a massive disappointment at the time I saw it because it was actually by the Zuckers, and I assumed them taking over from the Wayan brothers would have been a big improvement. It’s one of the most deflating movie experiences I’ve had.

    I'll have to stick with the others here. Airplane and the Naked Gun films are among the funniest stuff ever produced, and if I didn't still have a backlog of a few hundreds movies that I've never watched so far, I'd be ready to watch any of them every night and laugh my butt off. Provided I don't feel like rather watching a Bond movie.

    I became a bigger fan of Green Lantern and Jack Ryan because of their less successful movies (Shadow Recruit).

    Apparently he was a thespian in his own right too. I vaguely remember watching him in The Swamp Fox, which I really enjoyed as a kid.

    I think Disney could have combined Kenobi, Andor and The Book of Bobba Fett into one big series and it would have been more successful than the sum of its parts.

    I love Jaws 3-D! Saw it in the cinema during the summer of '83 and always loved it.

    My favourite controversial opinions are the ones where someone likes something everyone else doesn't. I've never seen a single Jaws sequel, might have to check some out, if just for fun.

    They're pretty bad, but a lot of fun. The one with Michael Caine is really funny. :D

    I always watch a lot of horror movies in October, and coming off Host (2020), I found it very overhyped and in general find these types of movies super samey and lackluster. They have a big audience, but it seems like whenever I try another one I just don’t come away with anything special.

    Finally someone else who doesn't like 'The Impossible'...! I really cannot fathom what the appeal is for this horribly overwrought travesty of a real disaster. And as for the advert for Zurich insurance near the end...😡

    Also agree on The Joker. Couldn't even make it to the end...

    Phoenix is the only thing that makes Joker watchable for me. He's hypnotic. The film itself is rather bland.

    I thought he was boring. All he does is “act” and contort his body in weird shapes so that he can fit himself inside a refrigerator. I’m completely baffled by all the praise that film gets.

    It's the first Jaws film I saw. I don't think it holds a candle to the original, but I'll always say that it would have worked fine as not part of the series, if it had been developed as a poor man's Jaws.

    @GoldenGun I like Halloween 4 as well. The mask looks bad (but is even worse in the next films), but Donald Pleasance still brings his A game. In fact, I think he is at his best in 4.

    And I love The Satanic Rites of Dracula. I will come straight out and say that 'Satanic Rites...' is my favourite of the Hammer Horror Draculas.

    I concur with your second list, particularly Avatar, awful stuff, I will be avoiding the upcoming sequel(s)
    Cant get on board with your first, apart from 1492 ( Ridley Scott does a great job here)
    The Wolfman, really decent horror remake, apart from the ending
    And Sin City 2, if only for the appearance ( sans clothing) of the wonderful Eva Green!

    I find that I've seen surprisingly few of the movies in the lists of yours, but I do agree with your view on those I did see. I also liked The Russia House, 1492 and The Tourist from the dud list, while considering Avatar a really, really bad movie. James Cameron did some good stuff, but this isn't among it.

    Glad to see some love for Green Lantern. It's not the best film in the world... but it wasn't truly abysmal either. It's grown on me in recent years.

    Well, here's my controversial opinion:

    I think it's a big mistake that Zack Snyder never got to produce his 'New Gods' films for the DCEU. Whatever went wrong -- and here's my controversial (?) opinion -- it wasn't his fault. The suits at WB/DC threw mandates around and put down stipulations that resulted in a rushed road to JL. I love Snyder's aesthetics, the dark tone of his films, his action sensibilities, and his approach to the characters. Cavill's Superman, Batfleck, Gal's Wonder Woman... hot damn! -- talk about perfect casting for this world.

    Snyder's DCEU is the biggest "wanna - shoulda - coulda" that will haunt my fanboy fantasies for eternity.

    Cavill, Affleck, Gadot, Momoa, Miller, Fisher, ... I love them all. I prefer this "superhero team" over Evans, Downey Jr, Johansson, Hemsworth, ... even, and they were great!
