    I would hope so

Really want a continuation novel to be in the modern era

A pipe dream I know but still

I never got into reprints of books or albums if I own it once that’s all I need

It's rather sad (to me at least) that we're at the point now where an adult Bond continuation novel set in the present day is regarded as a pipe dream. For about the first 40 or so years of the Bond continuation project this was how things were done of course. It was very much the norm. However, since 2008 the trend has been towards period-set Bond novels with the sole exception being Jeffrey Deaver's Carte Blanche in 2011. Even there the powers that be at IFP decided that the literary Bond of old as originally conceived by Fleming was too anachronistic to exist in the 2010s and so Deaver made his Bond a new creation, born in 1979 and a veteran of the Afghanistan War. I suppose, like Sherlock Holmes before him, this was sadly the inevitable fate of the literary James Bond. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong though and there will be some good news on the Bond continuation novels front.

I don’t mind updating Bond for modern audiences as long as the general beats are the same… orphaned at 7 went to eton etc

Honestly I am fine with the update so long as it feels like Bond and the one element missing from Deaver was sex beyond that it felt rather good

Yeah Deaver's Bond felt quite neutered in a way that Craig's for example never did.

New editions of the Flemings on the way. They say they've got more to announce.

If that’s the only announcement from them that was hyped all those weeks ago, I’m disappointed.

Yeah it's a big step for them because they're publishing them themselves, but for consumers it's not hugely fascinating as to which label is on the cover, and we've read the books themselves already.

Sorry if this has already been posted. I kinda think they're lying about not looking for an actor. Or at least, being coy about what "looking" means. I'm sure they have every agent in town calling them.

Also, all things considered, Michael and especially Barbara look great!

Noticed in the Sound of 007 documentary, there was a credit for Cary Fukunaga's stylist. Seems he was edited out after those allegations.

Wait I'm confused, his stylist was edited out? Cause Cary was in the documentary...

I think this is actually pretty exciting, but in all honesty, after a full set of the black & white editions (including Diamond Smugglers & Thrilling Cities), and the Folios, I'm highly unlikely to acquire a *third* full set.

And I wish it was sooner than 2023 but it makes sense.

Somehow I completely missed Fukunaga. My mistake.

Happy James Bond Day to you all! Any viewings planned for the day?

It's going to be a busy day for me but would love to watch The Sound of 007 and GE before it's over.

Hopefully stream the two events over the course of the weekend. Sadly too much going on at the minute.

If I find time I may watch AVTAK, as it’s the next film up in my Bondathon. But I likely won’t have that time. In any case, Happy Bond Day to everyone - I am thankful for the countless memories the franchise has brought me personally, but also the fellowship it’s provided here among us fans :)
  • Dr. No is my viewing for tonight. Feels very appropriate.

I thought about that too. It's one of my favorites, may be a more appropriate choice than my usual go-to, GE.

The Sound of 007 was a really great documentary. You can say the hard work everyone put into it and it was interesting to hear most honest opinions from participants. The editing of it was great too.
    Happy James Bond day everyone

    Beautifully said @FoxRoc.

In thinking back on all of the memories that this franchise has given me this morning I must admit to getting a little misty eyed. It’s not just the films, it’s the memory of watching the movies on the ABC Sunday Night Movie (here in the US) with my mother, or going to the cinema with my friends on a Friday evening after work whenever a Bond film would open. Good film or bad (I’m looking at you Die Another Day 😊), I’ve loved them all.

And of course, thanks to all of the folks here for allowing me to still "plug-in."

Ah, I see, thanks. I've just heard it mentioned here a few times. Will have to investigate further...

IFP announced their own publications of the Bond novels but they’ve only said “including Chitty and his non fiction work”… I’m trying to figure out if it’ll include Talk of the Devil.

I’m sure you’ll all enjoy a little more parrot in your life when the time is right! Enjoy your celebrations!

It was rather disappointing and anticlimactic be honest. It's hard to get excited about old wine in new bottles.
