I was expecting them to have done more to celebrate the anniversary but seeing the films on the big screen again was a treat

Hopefully both Eon and IFP will surprise us yet and pull a rabbit out of their respective hats come James Bond Day on 5th October 2022. :)

Fingers crossed mate. I'm hoping they release the remaster of the Goldeneye game and maybe an update about Bond 26, but I think that's an extreme case of wishful thinking

Well IFP has something for tomorrow, no idea how exciting it'll be though. Unless there's some merch or something, I'm not expecting much from the Eon camp apart from a video montage or something like that.

Maybe another screenings of Bond films in different cinemas in 4K UHD.

I live in NYC. I think Film Forum played Goldfinger one day this summer. Haven't seen any other opportunities to see a Bond film on a big screen near me. Shame.

It's pessimistic of me, but honestly I expect nothing from EON really, in the way of the anniversary/anything to do with Bond outside of the films. Except maybe another $10,000 backgammon board, if we're lucky.

I see Triumph has announced another bike, so I guess I'll add that to the list.

I'm thinking that the Sound of 007 thing might've been it for the 60th.

I will say.. I think we're going on like 3 or 4 straight weeks of high-profile Daniel Craig and James Bond news. Skyfall was trending on Twitter this morning, and I've seen a lot of general accounts I follow discussing the "Bond will be in his 30s" story.

The mainstream is eating up every small conversation Broccoli and Wilson have about Bond in public, every time. And they're mostly saying the same thing over and over again. It's great to see, there's a ton of appetite. I bet things get rolling sooner than later, the media optimism probably feels encouraging.

The "Bond will be in his 30's" thing is not new to me, considering that both Connery and Lazenby both started in their 30's.

I would be more surprised if Bond will be in his 20's (a young Bond?) or 50's (A Retirement Bond?).

What I'd liked to discuss is the tone, the story, the set up.

Craig too, and I suppose we could argue that Pierce was intended to had he started in 1986/1987. So I agree - definitely nothing new on that front.

Sounds like the media misunderstanding things again. Nothing new there either.

Well, while all of your points so far have been valid re: other actors starting in their 30s, we have been getting a lot of chatter specifically regarding the casting of this next actor being younger since NTTD released. But that's also a narrative the press has been eager to build, and not necessarily ever straight from the horse's mouth. And now they're setting it straight: "we're doing what we've done, what we know works, duh."

Another NYC person here. The Film Forum played FRWL and GF as part of their "1962-1964" film retrospective. The screening of FRWL that I attended was packed with fans (though not a complete sell-out).

I missed the Fathom event screen of DN,
1-due to the warning about film quality and
2-at both places that I checked; it was really going to very poorly attended.

Sad I missed these. Please hit me up if you hear about a screening sometime! And we can always meet up.

Strictly does a Bond night occasionally doesn’t it? Was that what they had Gladys Knight doing LTK for?

New editions of the Flemings on the way. They say they've got more to announce.

It would be great if they were annotated editions putting the texts in their historical, social and economic context but they're probably not. I think the literary Bond deserves that kind of treatment (much like the much older Sherlock Holmes series has received) after 70 years of existence. Looking forward to seeing what else is announced today.

    I would hope so

Really want a continuation novel to be in the modern era

A pipe dream I know but still

I never got into reprints of books or albums if I own it once that’s all I need

It's rather sad (to me at least) that we're at the point now where an adult Bond continuation novel set in the present day is regarded as a pipe dream. For about the first 40 or so years of the Bond continuation project this was how things were done of course. It was very much the norm. However, since 2008 the trend has been towards period-set Bond novels with the sole exception being Jeffery Deaver's Carte Blanche in 2011. Even there the powers that be at IFP decided that the literary Bond of old as originally conceived by Fleming was too anachronistic to exist in the 2010s and so Deaver made his Bond a new creation, born in 1979 and a veteran of the Afghanistan War. I suppose, like Sherlock Holmes before him, this was sadly the inevitable fate of the literary James Bond. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong though and there will be some good news on the Bond continuation novels front.
