Why have they made Pinhead from Hellraiser a woman? Only just seen the trailer?

I guess if you can't get Doug Bradley, you might as well gender-flip the lead cenobite. ;-)

:)) I just do not understand why they feel the pressure to do this? I absolutely love the Hell Raiser movies. Just reboot it?!

What pressure? Who is saying they felt pressure to do this? Maybe they just wanted to, and it isn’t a big deal?

This looks pretty awesome. If not as scary as other films, the stories should at least be interesting.

Nice. Del Toro is always worth checking out.

Are you thinking of Inarritu and Cuaron? If so, absolutely.

My girlfriend and I are attempting our horror marathon (one film a day) for the month of October again and she recommended this Taiwanese body horror film last night called The Sadness that I had never heard of before. If you want something truly twisted and unrelenting that has some standout special and practical effects, you don't want to sleep on this movie.

Probably the most violent film I have ever seen. It's the kind of violence that gets burnt into your memory.

Read a little about it, and it's going to be a pass from me :)) Although it sounds super interesting.

    Has anyone seen The Wailing?

Yeah it's certainly up there for me, it's just so visceral and in-your-face and absolutely no one is safe or spared (including babies). It's a nightmare that I enjoyed.

@NickTwentyTwo, I've seen The Wailing a few times now and I love it!

The new Hellraiser film seems to be getting pretty good reviews which is cool. Might have to check it out.

At the risk of coming off a bit -- uh -- sexist (?), I'd say there is something appealing if not downright hot about a female cenobite. The comics ventured into that gender territory ages ago and I rather like what they did with it. Also, I'm not sure this is a matter of pressure. I think horror flicks can comfortably flip genders without pushing an agenda of sorts. There's just so much fun to be had with it in this particular genre. ;-)

Their was a hot female cenobite in the originals anyway. Guess the proof is in the pudding.

Correct. A female cenobite makes sense.

    Aren’t these things completely genderless?

I remember really liking how they portrayed Satan in Passion of the Christ… an androgynous female actor.

Just back from Terrifier 2 (2022). Holy sh*t, it’s a masterpiece of a gore/body/slasher horror. All Hallows Eve and Terrifier 1 were movies I liked okay but were really lacking in a lot of areas and carried by Art himself… but Terrifier 2? It’s an improvement of epic proportions in every way possible. It took everything already strong from the first ones and made it better, but more importantly, the other lead characters finally became likable. Main / “final” girl and her brother are perfect, and all the kill sequences are done with incredible passion. You CANNOT miss this one if gore and dark humor is your thing. Art the Clown has cemented himself as a modern horror icon for the ages.

That is so good to know, @FoxRox! I loved Terrifier. Can't wait to see more of Art.

Oh man, you won’t be disappointed. For my money this puts the other movies to shame. Damien Leone really took a massive leap forward here!

Has anyone checked out the new Hellraiser yet? I want to finish this viewing of Dirty Harry and, depending on work, plan on checking it out immediately after. I'll share my thoughts later, fingers crossed it rocks.

I have interest, but I haven’t. I still haven’t watched any beyond the first. I’ll be looking around for more reactions too.

I finished it a bit ago and quite enjoyed it! I wouldn't say I wholeheartedly loved it and it doesn't come close to matching the gritty, dark beauty of the first two (or the exotic horrors of the third installment for me), but it's easily the best installment in a very, very long time. It needed much more Clayton, what a performance.

Agreed. It didn't rock my world but it's the first Hellraiser film in about three decades to leave me quite excited and wanting more. It delivers powerful images and cool deaths, but without the raw masochism of the first two films. There's tension again, and the new 'Pinhead' or "Priest" provides more than enough seductive menace to welcome sequels that explore her/his/its story. The nods to old Hellraiser are sparse but effective to please me as a fan. The film runs for two hours--which is half an hour longer than almost every other film in the series--but doesn't overstay its welcome, a consequence of the story being rather well-written and the characters being more fleshed-out (no pun intended) than in most of the sequels we have seen before. A little bit more practical effects work and a little more gore would have pulled me in even more, but I am not too picky with this series. What we got exceeded my (admittedly, low) expectations so I am a fan of this one. It is not the best in the series but certainly one of the better and more original entries.

Edit: I am a fan of Hellraiser 2. This film offers a good bit of eye candy for the likes of me. An added bonus!

In Hellraiser II, I liked how quiet and still it was for much of the time that Kirstie and Tiffany were in the labyrinth. Dunno why that stuck with me, but it did!

My family and I watched Hannibal Rising (2007) last week. Despite the bad reviews, we enjoyed it. It’s a shame that Thomas Harris was guilt tripped into writing it.

From Wikipedia: The February 22, 2007 issue of Entertainment Weekly features a quote that suggests that the only reason Thomas Harris wrote the story was out of the fear that a Lecter prequel/origin story would inevitably be written without his involvement. Hannibal Rising film producer Dino De Laurentiis said "I say to Thomas, 'If you don't do [the prequel], I will do it with someone else... I don't want to lose this franchise. And the audience wants it...' He said, 'No. I'm sorry.' And I said, 'I will do it with somebody else.' And then he said, 'Let me think about it. I will come up with an idea.'"

It wouldn’t surprise me if they continued Hannibal Lecter as a book series after Thomas Harris dies. They shouldn’t.

Has anyone seen Jeepers Creepers Reborn yet? I you haven't, then don't.

I love the first two films in this series, despite the director's more than iffy reputation. The third one let me down big time. But this recent film is beyond saving. The filmmakers are obviously horror fanboys; unfortunately, that results in an overdose of horror references, not in a film that delivers good horror. In fact, I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to laugh at this film instead. Whatever the case, this is amateur hour. The bad kind.

Apparently Martin Emborg, game designer at IOI was brought on to help develop the Lament Configuration for the 2022 Hellraiser. Get back to work on Bond! ;)

Almost pulled the trigger and watched this when I saw it available the other day. I'm glad I didn't. Thanks for saving me an hour or two, @DarthDimi.

I'm not the type to check out Internet responses, but there's a big 0% approval on RT. And it's not the kind of Showgirls-level "bad" that's so bad you just HAVE to see it and like it in a funky sort of way. No, this Jeepers Creepers has its actors (eh yeah, "actors") in cars with CGI exteriors; everything is overlit; the Creeper isn't creepy but a joke instead; and the plot feels motivated by a "let's be hip and cool!" for the kids mentality. This is terrible.

    My ranking
    [Good]
    Jeepers Creepers
    Jeepers Creepers 2

    [Critical Disappointment level]
    Jeepers Creepers 3

    [Sewage sludge]
    Jeepers Creepers: Reborn

I think I've only seen the first two, will have to inevitably torture myself with the more recent two at some point then. I think I liked the second more than the first but it's been so long since I saw either one.
