EON's plans to celebrate 60th anniversary

Will there be some special merchandise released to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the franchise?
Documentaries, DVD's, books, Box soundtrack collection ...etc...

Remake of the Corgi Aston Martin DB5 perhaps?

    Ramping up yes.

I note Anthony Horowitz offers a third Bond novel. Calendars and other celebration expected.

I'm hoping for at least one good serious documentary on the history and significance of the film's. I'm sure the main TV channels on UK TV will do some light hearted vacuous puff pieces but I'd love to see something more akin to Everything or Nothing.

Would love a Daniel Craig Collection box set of his 5 films in 4K/UHD… including an extended director’s cut of Quantum of Solace, but that might be asking too much.

I hope for many things!!!!! Compared to other franchises? You don't have a huge variety of affordable items!

The luxury items they churn out don't really phase me (or my wallet). There is zero effort in the design with that gear. They should make more toys, like they did in the 60s-70s. Some Bond gear for the kids. Make toy versions of the gadgets in NTTD.

    - Still hoping for "Bond Villains Are forever" documentary and Rittenhouse trading cards and also some events where some of the villain actors unite, just like what they've done to the Bond Girls Are Forever.
    - A Folio Society editions of the Short Stories.
    - More Funko Pop Collectibles
    - Bond Girls Are Forever Rittenhouse trading cards for Paloma and to the lesser extent, Nomi (also new collectibles of costume cards)
    - 60th anniversary Bond Game that features all of Bond's missions a la 007 legends but much more improved and better, where you can play in any form of Bond actor that you want, I want it to be an android and ios game or just a Bond game that you can play on your phone.
    That's all for now 😁

@Tracy . The mention of “View Master” brings back a ton of childhood memories. IIRC, I had a set for slides for Batman (the Adam West TV show) as well as several others.

For those too young to remember, a View Master looks like this (I think they still make them BTW 😊)

Somehow, I don’t think that EON is going to go down this path!!

In other news, just browsing on Amazon.com by “publication date”, there would appear to be little “Bond 60” stuff in the pipeline. Of note:

The James Bond Dictionary Hardcover by Nigel Cawthorne (Author) – September 20, 2022
Dr. No: The First James Bond Film Paperback by James Chapman (Author) – November 8, 2022
Love and Let Die: The Beatles, James Bond, and the British Psyche Hardcover by John Higgs (Author)
    – February 7, 2023

In addition, we know there will be a documentary about the music of the Bond films. Beyond that, I don’t see much on the calendar. However, EON could be keeping things very close to the vest. I hope so anyway.

LALD as well. I haven't messed with a View Master in many years but it'd be fun to revisit one via some official Bond images.

Didn't know that they did one for LALD as well. I remember seeing the Moonraker View Master in the GoldenEye official movie magazine which I bought back in 1995.

Indeed, a bit of retro Bond fun. Wish I had that one for Moonraker. Probably worth a fortune now! :)

So far the majority of the 60th Anniversary stuff has revolved around extraordinarily expensive and niche merchandise

    - The Lock & Co Hats which are usually £400 or more
    - Factory Entertainment replica items (looking at the £600 and £700 Moonraker laser guns...)
    - A Geoffrey Parker Backgammon set at £5,325 each.
    - The £280 steiff teddy bear is still to come (though that did sell out).

I appreciate I am cherry-picking as there is plenty of "affordable" stuff on the 007store, but I do wonder exactly who this kind of high end stuff applies to. Looking at the £25,000 solid gold lighter, they're still on number 2, so havent sold any.

Least in the UK we have the weekly cinema screening which have been great. But you wouldnt know its the 60th anniversary when going to see them, as nothing indicating this plays before the movie (at least at the screenings I have been to).

There are rumblings of a weekend of screenings at the BFI in London around James Bond Day, hopefully they are more than just screenings (cast & crew Q&As etc would be nice).

I cant help but think due to being in a bit of no-mans land with the state of the cinematic series it is at the minute, the actual JBD will be a real damp squib with a few celebratory social media posts.

I've always thought James Bond Day is a bit silly anyway. Does anything big ever happen on it?

Yeah 😂, for me it's just an event created by fans and made for fans.....
I don't mind it either, actually I didn't know it at first, until I've visited the James Bond FB page, and I'd asked, what's that for?
    Agreed it's a bit silly.

I don't remember Marvel or Star Wars having those and they're bigger than Bond.

Well, it is a relatively new thing so that explains the silliness. I guess every day is James Bond Day for die-hard fans like us but if it makes someone curious or interested in Bond as a result it won't have been in vain.

As for Star Wars isn't May the 4th their day now as in "May the Fourth be with you"?

Yes I think Star Wars is quite often unveiling trailers and things on 4th of May as they're pumping out the content.
I would have thought that IFP is probably your best bet for seeing any kind of official announcement that day, even though I know it's not really their anniversary!

Previous JBD’s has the Casino Royale and Skyfall in Concert events on those days. Plus I believe we got the first NTTD poster on JBD in 2019 (crap it is though),

“Skyfall” by Adele premiered and was released on JBD in 2012.

So there have been bits and pieces over the years.

As a suggestion, maybe this year Broccolli and Wilson could actually do a video, celebrating the 60th and talking to fans directly. Maybe give some indication as to what is going on with regard to future Bond films. Though I acknowledge it has never been in EoN’s repertoire to ever engage with fans.

They have that reputation but I don't think it's fair really. Eon are pretty good with releasing bits and pieces: if you look at NTTD alone then you had the Goldeneye press interview and cast reveal live video, the Jamaica making of video, the little title reveal video, the photo of Craig and the V8 in London... I feel like a couple of other things, and that was while it was shooting. In the buildup to release we got the podcast filled with interviews...
I'm an Indiana Jones fan and I've been following the new film and so far there has been nothing. I think the only press releases while it was shooting was one to say it hard started and one to say that Ford had sustained an injury. And just a few weeks ago we got the first photo from the production... and that's it. And still not even a title.
So comparatively, I think they engage the fans pretty decently. I'm not really sure what more you'd want them to do, to be honest.

So I don't think it's impossible they could do something like you suggest, I guess it depends on whether they have anything to say or not really. With the 'in Concert' things, those are pretty much licensed events anyway, aren't they?

An announcement of more 4K titles (seems unlikely) or an update on the future (even more unlikely, given their previous statement) would be more than enough for me.

I find them on eBay, at least in the U.S. frequently. I picked up a sealed LALD for a good price a few years ago. I bought the MR when it was new but it's in pieces now and wouldn't mind having another.

Yours might've been the closed eBay listing I saw on Google yesterday for about $40! That seems a fair price, especially for ones that are still sealed.

I don't see why Bond can't have it's own celebratory day. Doctor Who has one, and it's only a year younger than cinematic Bond. On saying that, Doctor Who does put out more merchandise, so they could release special items to mark the occasion.

This year they're also releasing Bond 25, the album of Bond theme re-recordings by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It was originally going to be released last year, I think, but it was postponed.

I'd love to have a Viewmaster.

I’d rather have that expanded Moonraker soundtrack that La La Land were going to bring us three years ago.
