Quick Big Mi6 Title Sequence Ranking Game

  • I'm a bit shocked by Tomorrow Never Dies (which I gave the bronze to) placing 19th and to a little lesser degree TWINE and DAD (both Top 10s for me) placing not too far ahead of that, but overall this is a solid ranking of the title sequences.

I had GoldenEye second and Casino Royale fourth. There have been memorable title sequences in every era, but Kleinman really came in blazing. If he does return with the new Bond, I hope the dawning of a new era will inspire him to deliver something really spectacular.

I'm also a bit sad to see TLD that low, it's in my Top Ten, I liked the headlights and the girl wearing sunglasses plus the dancing.

Personally GE is my favourite, especially these moments I think were awesome:

I’m also a big defender of late Binder, I adore all the title sequences from the 80’s, I suppose they take me to a decade that I did not live through but which fascinates me a lot.

That being said, the Kleinman ones are amazing and CR is a deserved winner imo.

I’m glad you guys enjoyed this little game, I have always been a fan of our title sequences. With the exception of NSNA, which doesn’t have one, I think they’re all pretty strong.

Well I got the number one!
CR was an outstanding title sequence, backed up by that thumping theme song!
I had GE at 7, though I loathe the Brossa era films, Kleinman was the best thing about them, I also an surprised how low his other sequences were. He had more advanced technology to work with than dear old Maurice, and he has been a tremendous asset to the series.
Great game @GoldenGun, just noticed my top 4 had 4 different designers, Kleinman (CR) Brownjohn (GF) Binder (LALD) and MK12 (QOS)

I’d definitely go with Hans instead of Osato, and Zao (one of my favorites) over Miranda Frost. Those are actual henchmen.

And there are several I’d take over Valencka.

Good ideas for a new game; but maybe Locque instead of Kriegler, and Helga Brandt instead of Osato?

Quick question: how many of you would consider ranking the Fleming novels?

Given that I’m about to become a daddy very soon I won’t have too much time on my hands and the novel idea would not take as much time as the one with the henchmen (which has twice as many options).

We would do the henchmen later on then, of course. :)

Congrats, @GoldenGun! Looks like we have something in common then, although I'm still 21 weeks away from the big event. ;-)

And yes, of course, I'd love to rank the Fleming novels!

I'm down with ranking Fleming novels!

For henchmen, that's a great list you've proposed.

Some suggestions whenever we get there:

I did always see Osato as more of a "behind-the-desk" Morzeny type rather than a henchman. So I always thought of Helga as the main one in YOLT. Though I could see Hans working too.

For similar reasons, I always considered Grunther the main henchman of OHMSS. Bunt feels like she's in more of a partnership with Blofeld. She's always seen giving orders to the girls or the staff. But I can also see how others would consider her a henchman.

With FYEO, it's always been either Kriegler or Locque for me. They're both featured prominently enough, so I'm fine with either.

It's weird to consider Renard alongside all the series' other henchmen, but because TWINE played so much with the traditional roles, you're right, he is the de facto henchman of the film, just an unusually well developed one whom we're led to believe is the mastermind of it all.

I'd give the edge to Zao over Frost in DAD too. Frost does get a sword fight, but Zao seems more hands on, he's got the classic henchman characteristics, and he's all over the film. He also feels like he's in more of an underling position than Frost who feels more like she's partners with Graves.

CR didn't really have any strong henchmen. Molloko and Carlos were bombers-for-hire, not really your typical henchmen. Dmitrios would be a good option, but he's gone from the film so soon. Gettler only turns up at the end, but he could work. Valenka is really the biggest figure outside of those and does try to poison Bond. Given the options, I think Valenka's fine.

I'm also down about ranking Fleming novels, I've read and ranked them so I want to see how different it would be.

But based on @Some_Kind_Of_Hero 's post it would also be interesting to rank the henchmen and henchwomen.

Regarding a potential henchperson game we could also go for the whole team of assisting villains instead of focusing on a single Person. That would make Things much easier....

    Thanks a lot guys!

Great stuff, I’ll set it up.

(@GBF not a bad idea, I’ll consider that option too when we’re there)

I hope there will be enough members participating in the literary bond girls game. I believe that there are a few regular voters who didn't read (all) the Fleming novels.

I haven't read through them in ages so I may not participate in the novels game if that's the next one. I don't feel confident in ranking them now without re-reading them all.
