@Revelator. Yeah, I saw this earlier today and haven't stopped smiling ever since!

    How they did it....

You know, the early episodes of the old TV series weren't the out and out camp feast that seasons 2 and 3 were (IMO). Not "dark" mind you, but it did have sort of a balance.

One thing that stands out to me about that trailer is that the Batmobile looks great in it. I hope someday they bring that one back, a bit like Bond's DB5 - just don't worry about why it's there.

I hope we get some characters we haven’t seen before!

The whole cast and crew are returning!

  • So Batman will be facing off against the Riddler with help from Catwoman and Penguin? Sounds exciting!

I want them to bring in THE MAN-BAT!

    No more Joker please.

Man-Bat would be a great villain to use, but perhaps too outlandish for Reeves' Batman. While I was joking about all of the cast returning, I could actually see The Batman 2 starring an escaped Joker with Catwoman and Penguin playing supporting roles again and Batman having to visit Riddler in Arkham for advice. If it ain't broke...

I think they'll potentially try to redo their idea for Joker in the next one - include him but as a sort of Hannibal Lecter character. Not the main villain and essentially imprisoned for the film, but vital to the story.

It could work if integrated a bit more into the plot. I'm not mad about the horrifically scarred Joker but I do believe the cut scene was filmed very well (even if it's pointless/doesn't make much sense). I'm not a big reader of the Batman comics but among the handful I've read Hush would be the most likely for them to adapt (however loosely that is - there's a lot in there and some of it is a bit silly from what I remember) if they wanted to incorporate Joker, Catwoman etc.

Yep.And to those who say Mad Hatter is too silly a villain to use, just look at how Reeves and Paul Dano interpreted The Riddler.

Also, while some may feel Man-Bat is too outlandish,he’s one of the fan favourite villains from the animated series and would suit the more horror movie vibe of this new Batman era.

I certainly don’t want any villains that have been used before.Heck,I think Penguin,Riddler, and Catwoman in The Batman could have been replaced by Hush,Black Mask, and Huntress.

I’m still disappointed we never got the Batfleck vs Deathstroke movie that was teased at the end of ZSJL,it would have been incredible.

Dr No Face? He sounds great, although I prefer Dr. No Trousers

I have seen it now. One of the best Batman movies ever imo. It certainly has the best cinematography, best score and best Batman suit. Pattinson works great, but maybe a little morose? People who complain about Craig s Bond should check this out for comparison. Let s hope he loosens up a tiny bit in the next one, which I am very much looking forward to. Zoe Kravitz is such a babe. (I saw her parents in New York in 90, but didn t talk to them.). The one who impressed me the most was probably Colin Farrel as The Penguin. Who knew he would fit so perfectly? Thankfully, someone did. Great actor. As for Gordon, no one can touch Oldman, but Wright does well enough. I did like what they did with the Riddler character, and that several bits and pieces from various comic books made their way into this.

With all this praise out of the way, I must say I was more entertained by Batman Returns , Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. And War For the Planet of the Apes is still Reeves best movie. Still, top notch.

I saw The Batman several weeks ago, and I know I’m in the minority but the more that I think about it the more I realize just how much I disliked it. I enjoy dark films; “Se7en” is one of my all time favorites, but The Batman was a soul sucking experience. Pattinson’s take on Bruce Wayne was relentlessly gloomy without a hint of charm.

“ The Batman” has many technical strengths, I love the score, but as a film it was an empty, , joyless, draining experience.

My only criticism is the length! It could easily lose half an hour. Not crazy about the final shot either, was expecting something more dramatic! Agree with @Thunderfinger re the suit, the best design, and Colin Farrell does steal the show!

Words can't describe how awesome that is. Batman laughing like a nutter, as he electrocutes some random goon.

Also, I love Batman announcing who he is over the phone, when the Riddler can see him clearly through the glass. :))

I was also a bit surprised that was the final shot, but the more I sat with it the more I like it. It’s very understated and moody like much of the film, and though not nearly as brilliant an image, it operates in a similar emotional resonance as the end of The Third Man which is fitting considering the noir influence.

Gotham Knight Redhood and nightwing playthough...

really Game of the year stuff in my opinion

also rumor on facebook is The Batman 2 is titled The batman 2 and will be out Fall 2024.. meaning we might get not 1 but 2 batman films in between No time to Die and Bond 26 lol

I agree with you on all your points. I really wish they would show more villains, for the game, as Penguin is not too behind The Joker and Lex Luthor in being overused. P.S. I think we’ll see both of them in the game as well.

It looks like The Batman won’t be able to outgross NTTD at the boxoffice, even if it made almost $400M in the US.

Really? That's a bit of a surprise, given all the hype.
  • I think it boils down to being the start of a brand new iteration of the character, while everyone knows and loves Daniel as Bond. People are still on the fence about Pattinson in some corners.

I think Pattinson is great. It's just that the film lacks pace and it's not as suspenseful as Se7en which influenced it.

He also riffed off of Chinatown…. I think seeing the obvious influences was a detriment to me; I know how great SE7EN is, and Chinatown, two of my very favourite films.

Chinatown, especially, is so artful with the slow burn, that no filmmaker should try and duplicate it. Create original beats to your own slow burn thriller. Don’t copy Chinatown’s (everything to do with dirty politics, missing dames, “Daddy issues” (and in The Batman it’s clear Falcone saw his daughter the same way Noah Cross actually used his daughter)….

Saying that, I had a more enjoyable experience watching the film in the comfort of my home.

And let’s not forget that except for China, where a film like The Batman wouldn’t have done that great anyway, COVID is basically not a thing now anymore while when NTTD opened a lot of people weren’t still comfortable sitting in packed movie theater… especially older demographics that love Bond movies.
