How about Harrison Ford as M? Could be a fun nod to the third Indiana Jones film and bring in the US audience.

You've OBVIOUSLY never heard H Ford's English accent ! Don't feel poorly, though - NO ONE has heard it !

Some fan castings of my own, if we have to go with a clean slate. I personally would keep Ralph Fiennes as M (Sir Miles for sure). Please don’t judge or criticize me too much, it’s just my opinions! Here we go:

James Bond: Unknown Actor (someone born in the late 80s-early 90s, if a true origin story).
    M: Idris Elba
    Moneypenny: Daisy Ridley
    Q: Tom Holland
    May: Felicity Jones
    Bill Tanner: Andrew Garfield
    Felix Leiter: Timothée Chalamet
    Mary Goodnight: Margot Robbie
    Auric Goldfinger: Russell Crowe
    Ernst Starvo Blofeld: Steve Buscemi
    Irma Bunt: Diane Lane

I know I used a lot of Superhero actors and actresses, but they are the craze for now!

    That is certainly an ensemble..

Chalamet is of course nothing at all like the Felix Leiter of the books and I think he is too high profile to take a tertiary role like that in the nearish future (same for Holland and Garfield), but I somehow find it a fascinating idea. I am slowly coming to terms that this newer generation of actors, whom I consider to be very boyish are going to be the leading men of the next decade-plus and there is something about Chalamet particularly, that makes me want to see what he would do as a spy and as the kind of embodiment of the US that Leiter sometimes is.

    Buscemi as Blofeld is fantastic.

I'm still struggling to picture anyone but Fiennes as M. That's the trouble when you've had perfect casting - where do you go from there? Crowe would make a pretty good villain, though, especially now he's, er, bulked up. He does a good line in simmering dead-eyed menace, with the threat of violence just under the surface. Looks capable of dishing it out, too. Doug Liman interviewed Russell Crowe when he was casting for Jason Bourne and said that when Crowe switched it on, he came over as the most dangerous, terrifying person that Liman had ever been in a room with!

Yes, my suggestion of a replacement would only be if one was needed: I'd much prefer to keep Fiennes if possible. M can stay fairly constant as we've seen many times before.
On the other hand, I think Harris is brilliant as Moneypenny but I can imagine they might want to keep 'Penny closer to Bond's age.

Chalamet as Leiter ? But he's so much slighter. Too much of a Gilligan vibe, in terms of "Little Buddy"...

I like the suggestion of Diane Lane. We don’t see her on screen enough anymore.

Keep Ms Moneypenny & same M but cast new Q because Ben Whishaw want to move on too. Well new James Bond.

Hmmm how about a film entitled Bond Returns: While Bond is away M goes back into the field and doesn't bother doing missions and just uses the position to gamble, drink, smoke, scuba and skin dive and ski, buy a sailing yacht and an exceedingly expensive sports car and the suits to go with it, and to have as much sex as possible, and then some. Moneypenny becomes M, effectively, because nothing is getting done and she can't stand it. Q keeps making gadgets and is glad that M does not break them or lose them. Bond shows up after being off on a mission and then recuperating and is VERY pissed off at M...and, after speaking with Tanner, Bond goes off on an assassination mission to kill M but then Tanner says he was just annoyed and was kidding. Bond returns, because, well, you know, like it says at the end of each film...a worldwide loose group of superVillains is very upset and arrange a meeting with the Prime Minister, at which they announce that they do what they do to make a living and because it's in their DNA to be evil and gosh darn it, it's just so much fun ! Until now ! As subjects of the Queen they are upset that MI:6 has gone to seed, and they explain that part of their criminal-mental-disorder is to crave the confrontation with someone good who's trying to kill them. The meeting concludes, and the PM turns to the (now-returned) M and says, "Well, this is ANOTHER fine mess you've gotten me into !" Film ends, with you know what rolling up after the credits. Oh, and each part played by the same actor as now, except Bond is in bandage wraps like the Invisible Man. Studio saves paying a Bond-ian salary because a series of stunt men, body doubles and craft service caterers share time in the bandages.

I'd love that, because Naomie is a great actor and a brilliant ambassador for the series but I have a feeling they'll cast a new Moneypenny, if they cast a younger Bond so they're contemporaries.

Given the ending of NTTD, I feel the new era is likely to be a clean slate. If they do recast all the supporting roles I hope they cast more unknowns, that way they don't need to shoehorn in the MI6 gang as much
  • I think we need new gang seeing as Bond will be different version of the character

My picks. Although I’d be perfectly okay with Fiennes/Harris/Whishaw/Kinnear staying on, I doubt they would return. So anyway:

    M: Hugh Bonneville
    Moneypenny: Rose Byrne
    Q: Rowan Atkinson

I’m not sure who for Tanner, though.
I think it’s possible that my picks are too high-profile, too expensive to play secondary or tertiary roles like these. I don’t know.

Oh, and edit: About Daisy Ridley as Moneypenny - a good pick but I’d prefer to see her as a main Bond girl in a future entry.

Still thinking about that suggestion someone made last week that the receptionist in CR would've been a great Moneypenny! One that got away, definitely.

If you’re referring to the receptionist from The Ocean Club -

Christina Cole is the name of the actress. Good call. Seems like there are numerous strong candidates that could be a new Moneypenny. M and Q are a little harder, especially Q.

It's way too late now, but I think Elizabeth Hurley would have been very good as Moneypenny.

    For me, my choices are:

M - Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown)
Q - Himesh Patel (Tenet, Yesterday)
Moneypenny - Anya Chalotra (The Witcher)
Bill Tanner - Lennie James (Blade Runner 2049, The Walking Dead)

She would have been. Maybe as May. It seems the Austin Powers hatred has been lifted at EON.

So is that the reason you only want a new Moneypenny? Because she's not white?

Oh, thank you for your insightful commentary on matter. 🙄

I don’t give a piss about skin color and neither should anyone. I’ve even come around on Bond in that I would be pretty happy with Regé-Jean Page. But I digress, that’s all for another thread here...

Moneypenny - Anya Chalotra (The Witcher)
So to move away from that, I want to just touch on Anya again. Not only do I think she's a good actress, even if I've only seen her in The Witcher, she comes across to me as an actress who would be wasted on the Bond girl role. I also feel, depending on who they cast, she'd have great chemistry with a new James Bond as Moneypenny.

I haven't read at least the last 440 posts or so, and I don't remember if I commented on this in the earlier 560, but I think that anything but a clean sweep would be a recipe for failure. I like the recent cast, but with Bond obviously starting a new timeline they should be replaced. The new beginning will need to be reflected in a total exchange of personnel, or it won't be credible. Just like dropping the DB5 and (for those who care) the PPK. Keep the shaken martini if you like.
