For the next Blofeld (he will return now that they can use him), I'd rather have a non British and non Anglophone actor. I say this and I always thought Ciaran Hinds would have made a great Blofeld. But someone more akin culturally to the Blofeld of the novel. Ideally a middle aged Polish actor. For OHMSS, back in the days, I'd say the ideal actor would have been Karol Wojtyla: great charisma, very fit, great physical condition, about the right age then. Sadly he had decided to become a priest a few decades earlier.

I suppose this Pope Blofeld I would be providing weapons to IRA cells across the UK in order to wipe out the Anglican menace once and for all

Too bad Mark Strong had a big part in Kingsman... he would have rocked a Bond villain role :-S

Similar-looking Rufus Sewell was just in The Man in the High Castle, but if he is not worried about typecasting, I'd totally want to see him:

...and ignoring the fact that he is about to play a Marvel villain, I'd watch Christian Bale in anything.

Mark Strong would have been a brilliant Bond in the Fleming mould.

Don't why I haven't thought of this sooner but Matt Smith would make a really cool villain.

He would, I agree. Liked him a lot in The Crown.

Speaking of The Crown, I thought Tobias Menzies was incredible in it; he really matured nicely from Casino Royale. Philip definitely had the best run of actors in that show, and in the new season he'll be played by another Bond alum and incredible actor, Jonathan Pryce.

100%. One my favourite shows (and one of the best written imo), and yeah, both and Menzies along are incredible along with the rest of the cast. I'm sure Pryce is going to kill it as well :)

I'm rewatching The Death of Stalin and Simon Russell Beale would make an excellent villain. I know he was rumoured circa SF (or seriously considered by Sam Mendes?).

    A great film @Ludovico :)
...and that's a good shout on Russell. He's great in Penny Dreadful too. I'm also waiting for them to cast Andrea Riseborough as a Bond girl, or even a villain.

In all honesty I think Léa Seydoux could, theoretically, make a good Bond villain. Obviously, there are some canonical conflicts here with the Craig movies. But, again theoretically, she would be a cool villain.

    Christian Bale
    Gary Oldman
    Joaquin Phoenix

And I'd love to see Scarlett Johansson as the main Bond villain.

I think Amber Heard could have made for a potential modern Fiona Volpe, a femme fatale type. She certainly has the looks.

This is probably controversial, because I know people seem to have a very set idea of how the character looks. And obviously it’ll never actually happen. But I genuinely think Matt Smith could’ve played a Moore type Bond in his sleep. He might not look the part, but I think he could’ve acted it, in a lighter sort of way. He’s got charisma to spare and that same ability Moore had to make you go along with the unbelieveable through sheer charm.

I can easily see that. It's easy to see in The Crown, as well, some Bond-type sensibilities coming out (I'm picturing the scenes when he's on that extended boat tour). Hard to look past his very unusual look though.

Really great movie, I never get tired of it. Beale would make a fantastic villain and with his rather unique look, he wouldn't need extra makeup or anything like this. And he's still fairly unknown even though he's a veteran actor.

And therein lies the flaw in my suggestion.

Actually IMHO he also could make for an interesting new Bond.
