I think Alistair Petrie could be a good M.

We are lucky in the UK for such a depth of talent re great supporting actors.

Yes, you are. Some names for M (even for the future, FUTURE): Felicity Jones, Idris Elba, Rachel Weisz, Gary Oldman, Gwendoline Christie.

    Moneypenny: Daisy Ridley.

Q: Karen Gillian, Timothee Chalamet, Tom Holland.

May or Charmian Bond: Elizabeth Hurley, Vanessa Kirby.

Some of these people could also switch roles.

    !!!

Either one would certainly have no problem helping Bond get up in the morning, I guess.

I dunno, don't you think Kingsman will have ruled him out, though? Wouldn't you be half-expecting a bulletproof umbrella?
  • I hope they keep Wishaw personally, no matter how confusing that may or may not be, but a female Q would be an interesting new take. Not sure if Karen Gillian is geeky enough for that though. I think she’d be better suited to Moneypenny, or (more likely since she’s very famous now) a Bond girl.

I don’t know if that’d matter in this day and age, there’s so many franchises now that I think people are used to actors crossing over. Fiennes is in the new Kingsman film, which would’ve released before NTTD if it wasn’t for the pandemic. And Lea Seydoux was in one of the Mission Impossible films before Bond.

M: David Harewood, Lesley Manville, and Ben Daniels
Moneypenny: Ashley Madekwe, Laura Carmichael, and Simone Ashley
Q: Alfred Molina, Chris Pang, and Sian Clifford

I really like Ashley Madekwe as Moneypenny based on the photo, but suspect she looks too similar to Naomie Harris to signal a fresh start. Of the other two, Laura Carmichael looks too "tame" and Simone Ashley IMO is too overtly sexy, more like a pre-Craig-era Bond girl.

Alfred Molina is IMO too much of a commanding screen presence to fit in as Q. I'd suggest him for a villain, but it would be too much of a retread of his baddie turn in Spider-man 2... I do not know Chris Pang onscreen, but love the hint of mischief in his expression in the photo and would be very curious to see him as Q.
  • M - Jason Watkins

    Moneypenny - Maeve Dermody

Can't currently think of anyone who I could see playing Q.

More of a general question, but what would you think about going in a totally different direction with Q and have him be more armourer than inventor? In the Dynamite comics, Major Boothroyd does hand out gadgets to Bond now and again, but is mostly trying to convince him to pack a higher calibre gun and some real firepower. The character seems to be modelled after the real-live Major Boothroyd, both in likeness and a little bit in character. ?u=http%3A%2F%2Fvignette3.wikia.nocookie.net%2Fjamesbond%2Fimages%2Fc%2Fcb%2FQ_by_Jason_Masters.PNG%2Frevision%2Flatest%2Fscale-to-width-down%2F113%3Fcb%3D20161127162303&f=1&nofb=1
It would be a very heavy deviation from "formula" and they would have to figure out what to do with those scenes - having him try to get Bond to use something bigger than a Beretta or Walther PPK is really only interesting once, if that - and what to do with the more gadgety side of things. But Desmond Llewelyn and Ben Whishaw played the more nerdy, inventor-type Q to such perfection, that I wonder if a bigger change wouldn't be more fruitful.

I confess I am a fan of Bond film formula, so I do not see an issue with continuing with the "inventor" type Q. One reason is that, as you mention, limiting Q's input to choice of weapons will give him too narrow a niche; Major Boothroyd had his one scene in Dr No but there was no dramatic/humorous potential in his part that could translate well into a recurring role. Another reason is that in a technology-driven world, Bond will likely need electronic trickery to get ahead, and while I am not a big fan of Ben Whishaw (and of his portrayal of Q), I do think today's Q needs to be more of a hacker than either an armourer or an inventor, and probably needs to provide Bond more "online tech support" than the pre-mission gadget briefings of old. That said, the gadgets are IMO good for light comedy and for the occasional wow factor, and as Bond humour goes, I definitely prefer gadgets to Moore-style quips, so I'd be sad if they ditched the gadget part.

I want to see him return to the franchise as M.

I absolutely love this idea... Colin Salmon was great in his two runs as Robinson. Reminds me of this generations version of Robert Brown going from Hargreaves to M.

Always thought he has a bit of Boothroyd about him. He was basically as much Q as we got in that film.

All new cast supporting cast for Bond 26. Get rid of Tanner he serves no useful purpose at all. Not even sure we need a Moneypenny these days either. I always liked the idea of Stephen Fry as Q but I think he's probably a bit too old now. A name I would put forward for Q now is British actor Jason Watkins. Great character actor. Love the idea of Colin Salmon as M

Old or not, Stephen Fry as Q, I'd watch! ...either him or Hugh Laurie :P

Tanner served no useful purpose in the recent films, but if his character is given more to work with, perhaps a stand on a critical issue that is different from M's or from both Bond's and M's, he can be made interesting. That said, he does not need to be in every film, much like Felix; and if he left, I would not miss him nearly as much as the trio of M, Q, and Moneypenny.

I liked Naomie Harris's Moneypenny a lot and think her SF story arc is the best thing to have happened to that character, but by the same token, it would be difficult to do as well from scratch and in an equally original way. One thing for sure, boxing her in as an old-style secretary forever pining for Bond is off the table; at the very least they could reverse the dynamic and have Bond not-just-jokingly interested in her, and her brushing him off with snarky rejoinders, but it is little more than a cosmetic change. If the writers cannot come up with a clever take on her, then it really is best to ditch her altogether.

All new actors, no question. I'd love to have an older, more experienced Q again. I miss Desmond, though I know no one can replace him.

Karen Gillan, an inspired choice to play Q. I could totally see that. Complete with lab coat and specs.

I adore Desmond, and would also prefer an older Q now, though I suspect that today's Q must be something of an IT wizard, and an older guy would be harder to buy in that capacity. Maybe they could have a Boothroyd-like guy as the "older Q" in charge of the gadgets and a "younger Q" IT-specialist deputy, but a Desmond-John Cleese double act did not exactly work out well...

IMHO I honestly believe that Q, Moneypenny, M and Tanner will all be replaced for Bond 26. that may be years from now but sure, you mark my words. all will be replaced.

I think Hugh Laurie would be amazing as M. He is one of the best actors in my opinion right now and has an air of authority perfect to portray M

I love M's office. I'd like it if they kept Fiennes, but would understand if not.
