For those of you who have seen NTTD more than once ... has the additional viewing changed your opinion of the film? Are you now at peace with the shocking finale?

No, not really. I liked the film very much after the initial view but I enjoyed the images and surroundings more on the following views. Just my take on it - but it was worth seeing it again in IMAX and enjoy especially the visuals a bit more due to being relaxed, knowing the film already. I pretty much have the same viewing films again like Goldfinger, Rear Window, Thunderball, OHMSS ... same was true, here just in full IMAX experience.

But the repetitive viewing did not change my overall opinion of the film, no.

I saw it once. I'll see it again when it's on streaming platforms.

My expectation for my 2nd viewing is that the honeymoon phase of the first watch is over, it's probably not a classic, but could still easily be in the upper half.

I was already at peace with the shocking finale though.

I was hesitant to rank it so highly after my first viewing. I knew I loved it, but I was afraid that the "honeymoon phase" (as it were) played a role in my enthusiasm. Fortunately, after two more viewings, my enthusiasm only grew. As can be seen in the overall ranking thread, I now consider it to be my favorite Bond film of them all. It hit all the beats I personally wanted and exceeded my expectations on many others.

I have seen it 3 times in the cinema. Loved it from the first showing, and subsequent viewings simply reinforced my appreciation of the film. So it only changed in that it made my positive feelings stronger and I was able to pick up more nuance and nods. I do recommend seeing it at least twice. The ending was difficult for me the first time I saw NTTD, but at the same time I appreciate it being heroic and appropriate for this Bond. The 2nd and 3rd time the ending was still extremely moving but not as difficult. It is one of my favourite Bond films and I feel sure it will remain in the top 10. Now it is in my top 5. It's such a beauty of a film, too; cinematography and direction top notch. Superb acting by all. I just think it's made to be seen on the big screen because visually, through action scenes and quieter moments, it is really special.

Good thread. I hated hated the ending first time out. However second and third time I am more accepting of it.

First half of the film is probably top 5 bond films for me. But it pivots on a sixpence in the last 20 mins.

I Almost hope they add in two or three extra lines for the dvd. Just outline Safins motivation around Madeleine, and murdering millions of people. An explanation as to why he let Matilde go wouldn’t hurt either

Four screenings so far. And that will be it for now. The bluray will be number five. My opinion never changed, except I liked the film even more the second time and more still the third time...

I’ve seen it twice, and I’d say my opinion of it didn’t change between those viewings. Positive both times, picked up a few things the second time, and the emotional beats were felt a little more the second time.

After three viewings my opinion didn't change, it strengthened. I'm passionately in love with this film. It took courage and they pulled it off with class...

Watched it four times. Liked it a lot the first time but I needed time to deal with the ending. I enjoyed it even more the second time because the surprises didn't distract me from the great acting, the wonderful cinematography etc. The PTS and the titles blew me away every time. Easily one of the best PTS from the series. The movie even touched me a bit more the second time. The third screening was a bit difficult because my wife didn't like it that much. The fourth time was perfect. My friends liked it a lot and the atmosphere in the audience was much better. It didn't loose any points in entertaining me, altough I thought at the last screening that one of the M scenes in the middle could be shortened a bit (is the second meeting with Bond -outside- really needed?)
All in all, a great cinema experience every time but it defintely helps when your enthusiasm is shared by the person next to you.

Seven viewings. My immediate reaction at the premiere was to give it a 9.5/10 and rank it as the second-best Bond film. Viewing #2 at a Wednesday advance the following week shot it right up to a 10/10 and somewhere in my top 50 films, with viewing #3 the next day placing it around 30th place on my all-time film chart. Viewing #4 was where I finally had it rank above Casino Royale as my favourite Bond film ever, and it has since made a further crawl with viewings #5, 6, and 7, and it now sits as my 17th-favourite film (really 16th as Godfather I & II are ranked togerher).

I don't think I'm done yet, either. I think I'm going to go to a ScreenX showing next week for the hell of it, and if by some miracle it ends up on the proper IMAX screen again, I will ABSOLUTELY be seeing it there.

Good for you. I usually see Bond film ten times while in first release and then dozens of time after that. One my second viewing my appreciation increased as I caught more of the films nuances.

I enjoyed it a lot more on the second viewing.

I think the gut-punch ending totally overwhelmed me, it really overshadows the rest of the film (quite an achievement given its length). However on the second viewing, since I knew what was coming at the end, I was able to appreciate all the good lines and scenes from the rest of it.

It's not a perfect film for reasons others have pointed out (weak villain, lack of clarity over the plot despite having so much dialogue) but I rate it highly overall. Will go to see it a third time before awaiting DVD.

Thought the film didn't have the same impact on my 2nd viewing and dropped quite a distance in my rankings.

Was very underwhelmed on my first viewing! Strangely unmoved by the ending, ( Bond at Vespers grave did affect me though!)
Second screening was more postive, and third my most enjoyable. Its no classic, but i am looking forward to seeing it on bluray now!

When Bond is standing at Vesper's grave saying: I miss you": It was somehow much more touching than I expected. Did he play so well, or is it the Vesper theme? Or is it my fascination for Vesper/Eva? ;)

I enjoyed NTTD both times though the second viewing the script issues were more obvious.

A few weeks later I have moved on from the film as a lot of what goes on is surface level and has no baring on anything that follows (Bond 26 onwards).

I will no doubt enjoy NTTD on Bluray etc though I am glad the DC experiment is over and my focus is now on the next era of Bond.

:D The PTS was absolutely amazing every time.
  • Had my second viewing yesterday, and experienced nearly all the same positive and emotional reactions as the first time around. I tried to pay more attention to the technical elements of the film, but still got swept away into all the intrigue and emotion. If anything, it just cemented how ambitious the scope of the film is - with so many nods to the classic era and each of the other Bonds' tenures, closing off the Craig era with poignant dignity, giving returning cast members much better material, and letting some new faces shine in a memorable way. It could've been SPECTRE-redux. It could've been a DAD-clunker. But no... those ingredients fire on all cylinders and make for both the most epic and the most personal Bond film in the cannon.

I just saw it for the second time in a smaller theater, where the audio was way better and I could actually make out more dialogue, and I loved it even more than the first viewing. I was worried it wouldn’t be as great or impact me so deeply again but it did. That’s probably my final theatrical viewing but I’m already very eager to see it again. Such a wonderful conclusion to Craig’s era. He’s brilliant in it.

Excited for my next viewing as well! Hopefully I'll get in for one more theatre-viewing, maybe even another IMAX, but we'll see. Day one physical-copy buy/watch for me.

    EDIT: Spoilers below.

I enjoyed it when I first saw it, despite thinking it was quite flawed narratively, but I definitely appreciated it more on rewatch when I noticed more little details. Like the conversation between Bond and M while the OHMSS theme plays. Originally, I felt Saffin was a real weak point of the film. But the way they spitballed possible motivations before deciding it didn’t matter, with that theme playing (nobody remembers Blofeld’s weird hypnosis scheme, they remember Tracy dying), and Bond’s unceremonious execution of him all made me think they were doing something more interesting there. On my first viewing, I wasn’t sure if they were trying to subvert the whole standard diabolical Bond villain plot (as if to say “that’s not what this film is about”), or if they just half arsed it, but after my second viewing, I settled on subverting it. Saffin (also, Lucifer Satan, the most generic evil villain name ever, that can’t be a coincidence) is more of a literal embodiment of the Craig era’s running themes than a character in his own right, and that’s what the virus becomes by the end too. The whole film works relentlessly towards the personal stuff, despite having the most classic Bond framework of any Craig film. I still wasn’t overly keen on Malek’s performance, but I found it interesting unpacking that.

The score grew on me too, and I enjoyed the action more the second time. First time around, I found myself longing for the days of big stunts in Bond (which I still hope we get back). But when I watched it again, I appreciated the action on its own terms, and the intensity Fugunaka and Zimmer bought back to it. I also appreciated the balancing act they pulled off more on my second viewing. I was so swept along on the first one that I never stopped to think about how full of mental contrasts the film was. It’s gritty and personal, but it’s also the most OTT and sci-fi of all of Craig’s films. Initially that bugged me, because it wasn’t what I expected from a Craig film, but on rewatch, I was amazed that the film managed to keep propelling me along despite those different tones. It could’ve so easily turned into a DAD esque trainwreck, they did a very good job of making it feel cohesive.

I enjoyed it from the start, despite its flaws, because it really worked for me as an emotional experience. But I liked it a lot more the second time around. I’m still not sure where I’d rank it, because it was a lot to take in. A real shock to the system at first. But I think this one is going to keep growing on me to be honest. Usually with a new Bond, once the hype wears off and I start looking more critically, they lose their lustre a bit for me. But this time it was the opposite. The more critically I think about it, the more I like it.
