Quick Big Mi6 Title Track Ranking Game

All right folks, time for another game me says. I wanted to do the title songs this time. We can also add NTTD to the mix for the first time.

DN, FRWL, CR67 and OHMSS are a bit ambiguous here since they have instrumental cues during the titles. After considering a few options, and some serious persuasion from @StirredNotShaken ;), I decided to go for the tracks that accompany the title sequences.

Anyway I’m sure we can do a additional song game too at one point.

But for now, here’s the list for this game:

The James Bond Theme - John Barry & Orchestra
From Russia with Love (instrumental) - The John Barry Orchestra
Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
Thunderball - Tom Jones
Casino Royale Theme - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass
You Only Live Twice - Nancy Sinatra
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - The John Barry Orchestra
Diamonds Are Forever - Shirley Bassey
Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings
The Man with the Golden Gun - Lulu
Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon
Moonraker - Shirley Bassey
For Your Eyes Only - Sheena Easton
All Time High - Rita Coolidge
Never Say Never Again - Lani Hall
A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
The Living Daylights - a-ha
Licence to Kill - Gladys Knights
GoldenEye - Tina Turner
Tomorrow Never Dies - Sheryl Crow
The World Is Not Enough - Garbage
Die Another Day - Madonna
You Know My Name - Chris Cornell
Another Way to Die - Jack White & Alicia Keys
Skyfall - Adele
Writing’s on the Wall - Sam Smith
No Time to Die - Billie Eilish

Please send me your rankings by pm, it’s a lot easier for me if they’re all accessible in one place :)

Edit: I forgot to add a deadline. Let’s say next Wednesday, so that’s almost a week from now.

Winners so far:
FILM: OHMSS (1969)
BOND GIRL: Diana Rigg (OHMSS)
SCORE: OHMSS (John Barry)
VILLAIN: Robert Davi (LTK)

    It's alright everyone, I'm no longer holding @GoldenGun at GoldenGunpoint :)) :)) :))

To be fair, the only one I was REALLY attached to as being "the" song for its film was the OHMSS theme, though I agree with the overall decision only because 20+ of these songs ARE the ones that accompany the credits, so may as well be uniform right?

My list (also PMed to you, @GoldenGun)

    27: Another Way to Die
    26: Never Say Never Again
25: The Man with the Golden Gun
    24: Die Another Day
    23: Tomorrow Never Dies

Do we only include the James Bond Theme in DN or also the other two bits we hear over the titles?

Just the Bond theme, I think. The logic behind it is that the Bond theme is the "main" song over the titles, and while it is edited for the title sequence, that doesn't mean a lot because every Bond theme (except DAF, which I believe is played in full) is similarly pared down to fit the credits.

Good question, I’d say for simplicity’s sake, let’s go for just the James Bond Theme :)

I think now it’s my turn to keep you at GoldenGun-point, at least until you’ve added the Casino Royale Theme and Never Say Never Again ;)

When would you like these by, @GoldenGun?
I have to say, I get a pretty good kick out of the CR67 theme considering how deeply I loathe every other thing about that film. I always get a big laugh from that scene in Mad Men where Don and Peggy run into one another at the cinema, they sit down to watch a movie, and we never see the screen but we DO hear the first notes of the theme song. I can only imagine what their thoughts were afterwards :)) :)) :)) :)) :))

Right, I forgot about that. Let’s say next Wednesday, I think that should give everyone plenty of time to re-listen and rank these tracks :)

Got my list sent in. One day left, be sure to submit yours if you have yet to do so! Can't wait to begin, @GoldenGun, this was one of the toughest ones to rank yet because I love 95% of these songs so much.

Sent mine as soon as the thread was up, and it was indeed hard. This is probably the ranking that can change the most from one day to the other. Any list will be like a snapshot.

It really is. I know I'll probably second guess some of my rankings once the game gets underway. I have some even in the 20th and below spots that I still really love, it's just tough when there are so many good tracks to pick from.

Yes, even the bottom spots have something going for them.
  • The series has had a great musical legacy. As you say @Thunderfinger, even my most bottom-ranked have their merits.

Ok folks, we’re at 18 participants, myself included, so I’ve decided to wait a bit longer. I’d say until Friday. So if you haven’t sent me your list but you feel like doing so, do not hesitate ;)
