Oh, that would make sense! Mouthing "everything is going to be okay" or something like that? Admittedly I still don't know what moment imranbecks is referring to, but I'd buy that over an editing faux pas.

Honestly I have no idea what exactly he was mouthing. One thing I remember for sure is that he was kinda upset that Safin was touching Mathilde's hair and Bond was looking at Mathilde while doing this. Maybe he was slightly moving his mouth out of anger, it's such a tiny detail.

I didn't think he was mouthing anything to be honest. I think his mouth was just, well, moving given the tense situation he was in.

Bond communicated so well with his eyes in this scene.

Yeah I think they wanted to show how tense the situation was for Bond. He was clearly also upset Safin was touching his daughter's hairs like this.

Love how in such a fun way,he points out all the MASSIVE plot holes in the movie!😅

    “ Now Bond has a daughter “

“ Weren’t his balls destroyed in Casino Royale ? “

"Switching code names just before the big mission. That won't be confusing.." 😆

I thought so at first too. But on the 2nd viewing, its more noticeable how his lips were moving in sync with what Safin was saying.

Don't feed the troll bondywondy. On the one hand it is heartening to how spends tons of time to figure out, how Bond might have survived in the end. On the other hand he might turn to something that's called life. He should try for himself. Or something like that. No harm intended, though.

With Craig it felt like he had to really act to create these traits, whereas with Connery it came effortlessly.
Yes, someone once said something to Rachel Weisz along the lines of 'Your husband's really hard' and she said 'No, he's not, he's just very good at pretending to be.' I'm guessing that Diane Cilento never said anything similar about Connery in the 60s.

No, otherwise he'd give her a slap.... ;)

Yeah, actually, that is not in the least amusing. My opinion of Sean changed forever when I learned he punched and assaulted Diane. Sickening and inexcusable. I still enjoy his Bond ... though it took an effort for me to get back into watching his films after I learned that. Even today I cannot pass off lightly anything about him personally any more.

No, I don't need a full discussion on this. We can keep comments focused on NTTD. But I had have my say because Sean beating up his wife is not something I can let slide without comment.

    Carry on ...

Was anyone else surprised by how little they used the Matera hotel room set? I feel like a lot of attention was given to it during filming, with the perfect view overlooking the city.

That being said - and it brings up a larger observation - there’s A LOT of this film that was cut out in the editing room. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a 3+ hour extended director’s cut one day.

Cary said in a video interview that his version, before trimming it down, was just barely under 3 hrs. I would have loved more in the Matera hotel room, or them walking around holding hands, something like that. I would have trimmed out more of Valdo. But hey, we always have our own tweaks for films. B-) I have only small things I'd change in NTTD.

I don’t think director’s cuts are ever gonna happen for Bond movies, for better or worse. I think that BB and MGW only want to present THE official Bond movie and not have fans squabbling over different versions. Just a guess, anyway.

Bittersweet ending, and while a bold creative choice, it also felt like one of the only options they had, and with Craig's Bind serialized it actually makes it lower risk.
That being said, even though Judi bridged the gap, this finale makes me think Naomi Harris and Ralph Fiennes won't be back, which makes me just as sad as the events in the film. Hope I'm wrong!

I think the next film should have completely new actors for the MI6 crew; only way to make it work great. No holdovers. And I LOVE this MI6 crew more than any others we have had before. I will miss them. Naomie and Ben in particular, but Ralph was very good, too. Rory, okay, well Tanner was not much of a character to work with. ;)

I want to also take this moment to say how much I love your user name. Just makes me smile, @MooseWithFleas. Cheers!

Anyone surprised Paloma (Ana de Armas) survived the movie ? She's the token minor bond girl who ends up getting killed in all other movies (well Lucia is also an exception). Maybe the death toll was already too high or they wanted to leave an opening for an eventual spin-off.

I think so too. The scene at the end in which they toast Bond feels like them saying goodbye to us as well.

It would be hard I think for Fiennes to give Bond a mission after he has toasted the death of an earlier Bond. Not impossible, but hard.

    It’s the post #Metoo era.Apparently you can’t kill “ strong female characters “ in a movie now.

Perhaps they learned their lesson from Ms Fields?

People complained when they killed her off in QOS.

I can easily imagine Gemma Arterton being just as good as Anna de A in that role.

No doubt in my mind Ana de Armas is completely bullet-proof. Probably nanobot proof as well.

I could live with Fields getting killed off early but that's because I actually liked Olga Kurylenko as Bond girl.
Sévérine was a bigger loss imo because she seemed really interesting with a lot of baggage from her past; then she gets unceremoniously shot before the audience got to know her. Didn't help that Skyfall didn't have a proper bond girl after that part (well unless you count M as the bond girl)

Oh for ... pity's sake. People bringing up the #MeToo movement whenever possible.
Give it a rest. That entire movement, whatever you want to call it, was WAY over due, more than necessary, truly helpful in balancing things out better and quite important.

I do not agree that you can shoehorn it into any and every little thing in a disparaging way. I find that insulting and demeaning. So I ask all members to stop that, cut way way back on that. The whole "it's the PC brigade" "it's the MeToo movement" to blame for (insert your gripe with a Bond film here) can easily be overblown on this forum and is one reason I happily opted out of being here for many months at a time (just one reason, but definitely was a factor).

What is wrong with a strong female character?
What is wrong with NOT having a secondary female character NOT die? Hasn't that been overdone in the past films, for decades?
What is wrong with characters acting with more respect and regard to others?
Nothing. And all of that is needed.

As Bond fans, you can do better. Because there are plenty of other ways to criticize or give your opinion of how you would have liked a scene to go differently.

In case this was misinterpreted, that was just more Ana adoration from me. Beautiful, funny, smart, badass...probably bullet proof too.

Have you noticed that Craig's Bond had the highest fatality rate for the women he had sex with?

Two out of two in CR, one out of one in Quantum of Solace, one out of two (the unnamed Turkish woman was alive, but she might have been ultimately stung by the scorpio) in Skyfall. None of the women he bedded in Spectre (three, if we count Estrella from the PTS, despite the lack of evidence) died, and Madeleine made it out of NTTD.

Will James Bond Return? I'm not certain. As every fans noticed, the "James Bond Will Return" mention is usually in the credit scroll with the same font as the credits.

The mention in NTTD is not in the scroll, it's added up at the end in a completely different font. (at least in the version I saw). I say it doesn't come from the producers and is an add-on by the distributors.

The Bond we all have known for 60 years is gone.

EON said goodbye with Craig. This is the end. They nuked the series.

That is quite a dramatic outlook. They already said they would be searching for a new Bond actor at the start of 2022

I have to think the reason this is different is due to the fact that, well, they made sure it was clear that Craig's Bond wasn't coming back. Therefore, many more people than usual were probably going to be curious and wait around for the "James Bond Will Return" line. The line itself being in there was meant to be a dramatic reveal, almost it's own "post-credits" scene. If I remember right, there was something like a bass drum beat played at the same moment the "James Bond Will Return" line was shown...

It’s been a Bond tradition/trope that there be a “ sacrificial lamb “ in most of the movies. Not all of them female ( in both of Daltons outings, the women make it out alive, but Saunders and Sharkey don’t make it ).

I’m actually surprised Monica Beluccis character made it out alive, because yeah,Craig’s Bond bedding a woman usually meant that girl ended up dead.It certainly wouldn’t happen now because of #Metoo as I said.I am glad Paloma made it out alive though as I really liked her character, she was the closest thing the movie had to a true Bond girl. Her screen time is so limited though that they don’t even have Bond bed her.

And before someone brings up the age difference,Ana De Armas recently came out of a relationship with Ben Affleck, who is only a few years younger than Craig. There is also a 17 year age difference between Craig and Seydoux.

I've read several biographies on Connery and there are various opinions on this subject, with many claiming he never laid a finger on her, despite what she said, and despite what Connery said about hitting women in an 80's interview decades later.

Anyway, that is for another thread. Back on topic...

No, the Bond we have known for 15 years is gone. The Bond we have known for 60 years is still hale & hearty. Distributors don't add anything to the credits. They just distribute the movies, they don't fiddle with the credits. Perhaps the JBWR statement is in a different font as a means of saying "there will be a different actor in the role." Craig's Bond is clearly out of continuity with the Bond of Connery et al. Different first meeting with Blofeld = different continuity for Craig's run as 007. James Bond will return with a different actor who probably has a different take on the character, and Eon will still be at the reins. A few years down the road, the sun will still rise in the East and set in the West, and the Broccoli family will still be making James Bond movies.

I don't really get why so darned many people have a need to insist that Eon has destroyed the character of James Bond forever and ever, series at an end amen. Bond has had several iterations by now: the Fleming Bond isn't exactly the same as the movie Bond, the continuation novels might as well take place in a different universe and don't even get me STARTED on the many comic strip/book versions of James Bond. They're all James Bond 007, just like all the variations on Superman from 1938 until today are all Superman. You can like one version of these fictional characters more than you like another and it really doesn't matter: they all have the same amount of validity. They're all just fictional characters. They all exist in the collective imagination and nowhere else. If you don't like Craig's, well, the next Other Fellow will be here before long...
