Our next reveal listens to the name of:

    BÉRÉNICE LIM MARLOHE
    as Sévérine
    in SKYFALL

    skyfall-girl.jpg

Sévérine received only five bottom 5's,of which her lowest ranking was 25th on one occasion. Her most frequent ranking was 21st (4 times).

There were quite a few fans to be noted as well: one bronze medal, one 4th place, one 6th place and one 10th place. Additionally she also received 8 more top 15's.

In total Sévérine collected 114 points.

Both of these are pretty close to where I ranked them.

I wouldn't rank her so low, not with those hips.

I found her to be an extended cameo at best. The character isn’t given time to develop, and therefore I don’t feel the full pity when she is killed. She’s a very attractive woman and a decent actress. But underdeveloped IMO.

I wouldn't have expected her to rank this low overall, but I guess she's got so little screen time, it makes her a tad forgettable.

Severine is good but, much like the wasted women in the back half of Craig's era, she comes and goes too quickly, though arguably with much more to offer than most of the girls in SP. She's beautiful and classic and could've been even higher for me if she was treated to a few more sequences.

Perfectly serviceable though not exceptional in my book. I'm sure she would score better if she'd been given a more developed character however.

I totally missed out on this ranking. Damn.

Of Severine, I say this: She’s wonderful, beautiful and intriguing, but the film’s story does her no favors. Probably the biggest thing that keeps Skyfall out of my top five, how they offed her too soon.

Very surprised to see Severine exit this early. Yes her screen time was short, but I thought she was exceptional in her role.

Agreed. I had her at #11. In addition to her figure and exotic look, her acting impressed me, and I think she made the most of what she had to work with in the script. The scene in the high rise where she and Bond look at each other: a good moment and great visuals (including the preceding fight scene). Later, talking with Bond, the smoking, and the nervous smile. Among other things.

Severine seems meant to be a tragic character, but I would've made her survive Silva's island and have Felix's number provided to her.
  • Huh. I had Severine ranked pretty high, but I can see how some would rank her low on account of her part amounting to little more than a glorified cameo. I've never considered Severine the main Bond girl of Skyfall and was tempted to rank her lower because of that. Ultimately, I decided to just rank the character, regardless of her importance or screen time.

I realised recently, to my shame, that apart from Vesper I struggle to remember which Bond woman is in which Craig film and what they're all called. This is partly because I haven't watched his films that often, but maybe they're also...a little boring?

While I've watched the Craig films a lot, I think you have a point about the quality of the women.
--CR: Much has been said about Vesper. Solange definitely did great, in my view--very magnetic and substantial.
--QoS: Camille is okay or good, goes through the motions, but still seems smallish and not that magnetic to me. Revenge can make people seem somewhat depressed. On the other hand Strawberry Fields had me hooked, with Gemma's looks, costume, and acting.
--SF: Severine I like and she made an impression on me. And there's some good flirting with Moneypenny.
--SP: Madeleine was functional but didn't impress me too much. I think Lucia Sciarra could've been made sexier and more natural, not so stuffy. However Estrella in the PTS was appealing.

That said, we have some really classic female Bond characters coming up on our list from earlier in the series. And I think a case can be made about how the "bad" Bond girls are strong characters. The first one I think of is Fiona Volpe! Possibly as strong is Xenia Onatopp. Even Giulietta da Vinci (Cigar Girl) made an impression. Probably an even stronger character than Volpe, though of a different quality, is Rosa Klebb. Makes me wonder if we have a countdown for Bond bad girls/henchwomen.

We continue with another French Craig co-star.

    LÉA SEYDOUX
    as Madeleine Swann
    in SPECTRE

    lea-Seydoux-spectre.jpg

Madeleine received five bottom 5's, out of which one was a last place. Her middle-of-the-road ranking is perhaps explained by eleven rankings between 12th and 16th place.

She featured in four top 10's too: one 2nd place, one 4th place and two 6th places. She's the lowest ranked Bond girl who obtained a silver medal finish.

Madeleine Swann ended up with 115 points in total. That's one point more than her predecessor.

Too bad. Good looking girl. Good interactions with Bond. Both are insulated characters who have found each other.

The good thing is, Madeleine is just outside the bottom third.

The standings so far, for @Max_The_Parrot :

    17. Madeleine Swann (115)
    18. Sévérine (114)
    19. Holly Goodhead (106)
    20. Stacey Sutton (96)
    21. Christmas Jones (95)
    22. Tiffany Case (95)
    23. Domino Petachi (82)
    24. Mary Goodnight (76)
    25. Jinx (66)
    26. Vesper Lynd '67 (61)

    I had Madeleine at no.12.
An attractive girl, who I'm looking forward to see how her character progresses in NTTD.
After Vesper, I find her to be the best of Craig's leading ladies.

Thanks @zebrafish we're getting through them quicker than I thought. So far my list very roughly is following the results, with the exceptions of Mary Goodnight and Tiffany Case, both of whom I placed much higher. Madeleine's appeared a few places sooner than I hoped (I had her slap bang in the middle - make your own jokes if you must - at 13. I also placed Sévérine down at 25, I can barely remember anything of her character's part . Fingers crossed Kissy keeps out of the teens!

I am with the majority here. Had her just a teeny bit higher.

I had her in second place.

I love Madeleine and am excited to see her return in NTTD. She's smart, competent, and gorgeous, and a character I can absolutely believe Bond would fall for--Vesper is a bit too much of a headcase.

The callback to Tracy in having her be the daughter of a major criminal is nice, as is her reaction to the word "L'Americain" mirroring Bond's own to the mention of "Skyfall". And while the "I love you" stuff was perhaps aiming a bit too high in the script, their overall relationship develops really well and is otherwise totally believable. The dinner scene prior to the Hinx fight is wonderful. Both dressed to the nines, knowing they may be on their way to their deaths, but trying valiantly to make the most of the evening. And it's all done without recourse to montage (as in OHMSS) or Star Wars prequel dialogue ("I've no armour left, you've stripped it from me", indeed).

I had both these fine ladies in my top 6. Bit shocked to see Severine eliminated so quickly. But Ms. Swann, not so much I'm afraid, more to the pity.

Severine's performance belies her limited screen time. A stunning woman and one of the best dialogue scenes in all of Bondom.

Ah, Ms Swann... I admit I do not have any logical reason to put her up so high. Rather, it's an emotional one - her eyes have such an melancholic and haunting quality to them. Lea renders me speechless.

It's a cold introduction to a seemingly cold character, but Swann swelters in the Tangiers scenes. I hope Fukunaga makes better use of Seydoux's strengths than Mendes did.

I'm sure he will. Mendes' films are rather....chaste.

Swann is dead last for me. Horribly acted (thanks to the script and direction, as Seydoux is a phenomenal actress otherwise) with almost no chemistry shared between her and Bond. Only serves to add more danger to the bloated and forgettable action sequences. I hope she's actually enjoyable in NTTD but I have my doubts.

I like Léa and have admired her in other films, but here she's ill-guided by the director and that doesn't do her any favour. She still remains an elegant presence though, that's why I would place her slightly higher than my least favourite Bond girls.

@Creasy47 and I usually agree about everything. This is where we disagree. ;-) This is where we are polar opposites. But that's okay. ;-) We can still hang out together.

That we can; surely it won't turn into violent bloodshed over said disagreement, right? Right?...

Madeleine lands exactly where I placed her: in number 17.

She's not annoying enough to be the lowest of the low, but so far she hasn't been well written enough to be any higher than where I placed her. She may jump a few places after we finally see NTTD.
