Its Connery best for me, and my favourite Bond novel! Fabulous thriller, with standout characters and superb action.
Thought it was going to be a shootout between this and OHMSS, but looks like CR is a strong favourite round here!

My favourite Bond film. It's been solidified in my #1 spot for a long time now and doesn't look like it's going to shift anytime soon.

Considering the films left though, I can't complain too much about its placement here. They're all wonderful.

I'll bet OHMSS wins. It's a more cohesive film. And of course Diana Rigg.

GE will always be my #1 but the "best" for me is OHMSS. I'd love to see it win.

Either way, I'm happy to see both of these grittier films take the 1st and 2nd spot in this tournament. They are also two of the longest films in the series. Hm... interesting. ;-)

OHMSS, featuring one of the most mocked Bonds, a film that left UA unimpressed, the one that is usually forgotten outside the fan community, continues to prove itself one of the most popular fan entries in the series. An astonishing journey for this film when you think about it. Even my mom, though quite the Bond fanatic, still struggles with this film.

And then there's CR, the film that went from Daniel-Craig-Isn't-Bond-dot-com/plete-morons to "whoa!". I love this film to death. Can't get enough of it. When SF seemed to impress the world, and people were saying things like, "I was never a Bond fan, until SkyFall", I sat there, arms folded, thinking, "CR! CR! CR!". I don't mind saying that I think this is probably the best Bond film ever made since the sixties.

So yeah, I'm very happy, very happy indeed.

Still, we haven't gotten to CR67 yet... I'm sure the reason @GoldenGun left that one out is because it would be the default winner!

Ha ha! Funny and sort of true.

No 3 is where I have it as well.I love the whole atmosphere and how it looks.

No 4 for FRWL in my ranking. A real spy movie with an outstanding bunch of villains.
  • Any one of FRWL, OHMSS, CR is a worthy winner, so I'm not surprised by FRWL's bronze finish. It's always been my no.1 until recently, with CR now eclipsing it by a hair.

Tomorrow the final reveal folks. The winner is going to be either On Her Majesty's Secret Service or Casino Royale. All I can say is that it was a narrow victory...

I'm guessing OHMSS wins it all. I'm honestly surprised CR made either spot (though that's not a knock against it, as it's one stellar installment and definitely deserving of such recognition).

  • I like OHMSS, but by no means am I it's biggest fan, I don't see how it ranks the best Bond of all. X_X

I know which I am rooting for. Ranked OHMSS 1st, and CR 8th.
  • I’d be fine with either. I put Casino at #1 but OHMSS is my #2 and could easily swap depending on the day.

Here's how the remaining films were ranked by me...
    1st -FRWL
    2nd -DN
    3rd -OHMSS
    4th - CR

So I'm hoping OHMSS takes the victory.

    My final 4:

    1. OHMSS
    2. FRWL
    3. CR
    4. GF

I'm fine with either OHMSS or CR. In fact a back-to-back watch may be in order for Tuesday evening.

Time to unveil our winner, but first let's have a look at the runner-up:

    STARRING
Daniel Craig as James Bond 007

    WITH
Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Giancarlo Giannini & Jeffrey Wright

    CASINO ROYALE

    MUSIC BY David Arnold
    DIRECTED BY Martin Campbell

    IMG_1391-scaled.jpeg

CR remains a very popular entry, with 9 members choosing it as their favourite. No other film ended up first that many times. CR also collected 5 silver medals and 2 bronze ones.

Additionally, four more top 5's were secured, as well as six more top 10's.

CR's lowest score, by quite a distance, was one 19th spot.

In total, CR collected 230 points.

    Moving onwards with our winner:

    STARRING
George Lazenby as James Bond 007

    WITH
Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas, Gabriele Ferzetti & Ilse Steppat

    ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE

    MUSIC BY John Barry
    DIRECTED BY Peter Hunt

    26a0e42a74879a2bd6f763313c9818de.jpg

OHMSS collected 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals and no less than 10 bronze medals.

Three more top 5's were secured, all of them 4th places, as well as two more top 10's.

For OHMSS the lowest finish was also one 19th place.

OHMSS collected 232 points in total, narrowly edging out CR's 230.

It appears the one point difference between first and second/third places is what eventually decided this contest. In the sense that it is only one point, and therefore OHMSS's higher medal tally gave it the edge over CR's higher amount of first place finishes.

    Our final rankings

    1. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    2. CASINO ROYALE
    3. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    4. Goldfinger
    5. The Living Daylights / GoldenEye
    7. Dr. No
    8. The Spy Who Loved Me
    9. Skyfall
    10. Thunderball
    11. Live and Let Die / Licence to Kill
    13. For Your Eyes Only
    14. Quantum of Solace
    15. Octopussy
    16. Moonraker
    17. You Only Live Twice
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    19. The Man with the Golden Gun
    20. The World Is Not Enough

    25. Never Say Never Again

    Exactly as it should be!
OHMSS deserves its first place. CR is brilliant, number 4 in my list, but I'm delighted Laz got the top spot!
Great game, GoldenGun, though i have issues with some placements (Hello GE!)
You cant argue with that top 5!

What? You don't like GE? I didn't know that. Why didn't you tell me this before ;)
Did I already tell you that I love it? :D
But there is one movie I love even more: CR is my favourite movie, not only in the Bond universe but geneally.
However, OHMSS is a great winner, too. My #3.

Thanks a lot for this thread. I had a wonderful time.

Now, one only wishes that the next time a tabloid makes up a list of the best and worst Bond films, they find this online as the "True fan's" ranking.

Agreed. I've been glued to my phone every morning, waiting for the next film in the countdown.

    Thanks @GoldenGun!

I think they do a copy and paste of anything but a Bond fans perspective.

OK, so I was the one with CR at number 19, but I did have OHMSS at number 4 so maybe one day I will grow up to be a proper James Bond fan like you guys! Until then, I’m off to watch Moonraker. ;;)

Thanks for all your hard work @GoldenGun, I hope Nick Nack has a celebratory bath of Guiness and Tabasco waiting for you!

Great thread, @GoldenGun, glad you ran this, I only wish my ranking had been a bit more fresh. Still, nice to see CR, a brilliant start to a new era, make #2, and arguably the best installment of the series, OHMSS, making #1. I love to see it.
