    Yep, can’t disagree.

Fassbender would be an obvious pick for a one-off, closely followed by Luke Evans, IMO.

Fassbender makes me relive my teenage blue balls, brimmed with desire, but no satisfying ending.

Has Christopher Eccleston ever been mentioned? He could have played Bond when he was younger. He's interesting looking and an incredible actor.

Ha yes, Mark Strong has been mentioned too. I love Gina Mckee but I wouldn't go that far!

I did suggest a while ago that out of the cast of Our Friends Craig seemed the least likely to ever be Bond at the time.

It was the blond hair that did for him. ;)

For a one-off, my choices are:

    1. Timothy Dalton
    2. Pierce Brosnan
    3. Michael Fassbender
    4. Luke Evans
    5. George Lazenby

And his face I think. Let's just say, he became more handsome as he got older. Not that I'm an oil painting...

Anyway, Mark Strong would have been fantastic. Craig's not done too badly...

I could dig another go for either Brosnan or Dalton.

One of my favourite actors. But I'd see him as Fleming, not Bond.

I was watching silent film last night that featured a young Ronald Colman and I thought, "If I had a time machine, or if the Bond series had existed in the '20s, he'd be intriguing Bond."

The right looks and of course a terrific voice. Obviously he could not be a Bond actor, but in the even of a temporal anomaly he should have...

I'm sure he'd have been up for the role if Bond had been created back then.

I occasionally wonder if Paul Darrow (Avon from Blake's 7) would have made a good Bond. He was good as the Sheriff of Nottingham in The Legend of Robin Hood.

He’d have certainly been interesting! Supposedly he played one of the doctors on the Navy ship in DAD, but he’s not visible.

I am interested to see who they get to voice the character for the video game :)

True, he could still play Fleming. Not really his sort of part though. It would be Cumberbatch if anybody..

Cumberbatch would be a good Fleming, wouldn’t he? Mind you, I liked Tobias Menzies too.

Question: can Eccleston neutralise his Northern accent?

I think he's done plenty of accents over the years: he played John Lennon. I expect they made him go RP for that Thor film.

In Any human heart? That was good casting. I love that mini-series, it's a shame there aren't more of it's quality.

I've said it before, but I would have taken Menzies as Bond. He is too old now, has been in the series before, is mainly a TV actor and I have no idea if he could have done the action bits, but I still think he has the look and is a fantastic actor.

I could see such casting working if Dalton were to play an elderly, retired Bond à la Ian McKellen in Mr. Holmes (2015). Bond could even be tending to his bees in the same way (see the passage in park in the YOLT novel) and reminiscing on his life and past missions, including some we've not heard of before. Just an idea of what it could look like and Dalton could surely pull off something like this. It would represent an alternative look at Bond in film form much like what The Spy Who Loved Me, 'Quantum of Solace' and 'Octopussy' did with Bond in the literary dimension. I'm sure it'll never happen of course (perhaps it could as a one-off special on TV?) but it's interesting to think about nonetheless.

He'd have been a great 1950s Bond, yes. Could probably still give a good voice performance.
