Loved that one as a black comedy, @MajorDSmythe. One of my Neeson favorites.

I still haven t seen this one, but the original was very entertaining.

I still need to see the original. If it's remotely in line with the remake, I'll thoroughly enjoy it.

I cannot compare, but found this trailer with English translation.

Oh, it's starring Stellan Skarsgard, so it should be amazing. Haven't seen much of his native work but I really, really prefer his version of Insomnia compared to Nolan's. This one looks great, with several shot-for-shot similarities, but seems much more dark and serious compared to the American remake, which has a very thick layer of comedy in it.

Continuing from Class Action and Extreme Measures, I have been on a Gene Hackman mega-marathon:

    Get Shorty
    Runaway Jury
    Narrow Margin
    Mississippi Burning
    The Chamber
    Twilight
    Prime Cut

An enjoyable line-up of films. I think Get Shorty and Twilight are the ones I liked the most, while The Chamber and Prime Cut I liked the least.

My latest watch, Prime Cut (my 21st Hackman film) I found too sparse in its storytelling, though full of interesting, disturbing images, and its surreal tone is engrossing. Splendid music score by Schifrin. Lee Marvin is always great to watch, as is Hackman, though his screen time is too brief for my taste.

Love 'Prime Cut' , its meant to be a black comedy, but works better as an action movie. Marvin looks so cool, and his final assault on Hackmans farm is thrilling!
And, yes, love Lalo Schifrins whistling score!
And that sick music that plays when they're driving back to Mary Ann's, and Lee Marvin is preparing the gun.

Kristen Stewart was smoking in that one. ;-)
I knew a Twilight joke was coming, and did nothing to prevent it.

What can I say, I am a fan of Twilight.

It's only the second time I have seen this insane film, when it all came flooding back my brain almost melted. Definately a film if you have never seen you have to go in knowing nothing about.

Ultimately very clever and to say its messed up is an understatement.

I still think Max 2 has better action! And is a better film overall!

I had read the story and then discussed it in physics class prior to seeing the movie, but I still loved every aspect of Predestination. It's a nice little film, with solid performances overall.

Stripes (1981). I like more and more every time. The third act is a bit of a mixed bag, a bit too silly, but I greatly enjoy it. John Candy is truly missed.

Incredibles 2 (2018). The filmmakers knew that their core audience grew up, and it shows! It's more for adults than for kids! A great sequel, up there with the Toy Story movies.

Completely agree @Mathis1 Mad Max 2 is still the definitive Max movie. With Fury Roadi thought George Miller was far more interested in the Furiosa character than he was in Max, so he was almost reduced to a supporting character in his own movie. To me Fury Road is more Beyond Thunderdome than Road Warrior and that's not meant as a compliment

Difference being, Beyond Thunderdome is not very good at all while Fury Road is a very good film - even if Furiosa steals the limelight.

Le Magnifique (1973) - starring Jean Paul Belmondo & Jacqueline Bisset, which is a parody on the 007 like movies of its time and at the same time about a writer caugth in a genre that is succesfull but something he wants to quit. Funny at times Bisset is always sexy.

The first hour of Beyond Thunderdome is good, the rest prett y poor.
And, yes, there was too much emphasis on the Furiosa character in Fury Road.

The thing is, all of the Mad Max sequels have characters that steal the limelight from him. Max himself isn't all that interesting. His arc was essentially completed in the first film. Beyond that, he's just a vessel that accidentally stumbles into these situations. So, quite a lot of the Furiosa stuff was welcome and the fact that it was played by someone as good as Theron made it even better. And despite that particular criticism, Max is still in almost every single scene of the film.

The problem with Beyond Thunderdome was the loss of composer Brian May, and the introduction of Maurice Jarre`s jazzy score and the Spielbergy tone to it all. Just a little more serious would have improved it greatly.

Road Warrior is best, Fury Road is tremendous and I have no reservations on it. Confronting Max with the escaping women and their plight is genius, and the handling of action, humor, death, social commentary, and the rest is true to Max's world.

The first (legitimate) UniSol sequel. Not on par with the original, but it's ok, for a quick JCVD fix. And Michael Jai White is a welcome presense in anything. I know he was in Spawn, but how come he was never bigger? Van Damme, at least, had a golden age from the late 80's to the mid-to-late 90's. Jai White, though still kicking, seemed never to have caught a break.

The Pink Panther Strikes Again Sellers and Lom are both on top form in this film jammed packed full of lunacy. Its not my favourite from the series though its one of the films that has one of the better overall narratives. Its fitting that this was a double bill with TSWLM Chief Inspector Clouseau's nemesis is in full on Bond Villain mode in this one. They don't make comedies like this anymore.

La vita davanti a sé (2020). Sophia Loren gets top billing but in all fairness this is really Ibrahima Gueye's film. He is very engaging as Momo, an orphan who is taken under the care of Loren's Madame Rosa. He displays both affection and anger in a compelling way. Loren is good, as is the film, but even being as character-driven as it is, it could have explored the relationship between Momo and Rosa with more depth. I felt there was untapped dramatic potential there, as the characters, for all the affection they displayed for each other, didn't really seem to communicate enough. The film felt as if some of its most compelling scenes, where the two leads would have shared their innermost feelings with each other, had been edited out of the film. But it was still good.

An Innocent Man (1989). Very enjoyable crime drama. Selleck is terrific as usual; it was gripping to see him playing an ordinary man who has to undergo those terrible circumstances. The corrupt cops were truly despicable. I felt the ending could have benefitted from a little more time to breathe, and an explanation of how exactly things went down with the cops, rather than leaving us to put things together, but overall it was a very worthy viewing.

Not as good as Non-Stop, but 'Liam Neeson on a...' is a concept that definitely needs further exploration.

    1. Non-Stop (2014)
    2. Unknown (2011)
    3. Taken (2008)
    4. The Commuter (2018)
    5. Taken 2 (2012)
    6. Cold Pursuit (2019)
    7. Taken 3 (2014)

Recently watched The Hunt, and have to say this Horror black comedy. Really put
a smile on my face, I haven't enjoyed a film as much in a long time. It's an obvious
satire on modern American politics, but very funny.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The action bits were a little stale at times but it had a few laugh out loud lines and it was so ridiculous that it was hard not to be a bit entertained by it.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I often try to watch this film and imagine the first three films did not exist, and try to judge KOTCS on its own merits.

The first three films set the bar very high, the fourth film we all know falls very short. There is some fantastic imagary and the first act of the movie is not that bad with some good stunt work and effects. Marion is great in the first film though in the 4th film as soon as she turns up the film nose dives.

Years later after I first saw the film in the cinema Ford pulls it off in this and is still convincing IMO.

I'm halfway through FORD V FERRARI, at the moment, really enjoying it. I had no idea it was as long as it is though. Bale and Damon are really amazing and the guy playing Ford II has some brilliant moments as well. It's a great story, and I'm glad the film lives up. Love it so far!
