I get that multiplayer won’t work but why would single played not work I can still play 007 legends single player and that game has been off line since 2014

It would depend on how the game is designed. Taking Ghost Recon: Breakpoint just as an example. Even the single player side of the game requires an internet connection. No connection = no game. I don't know why Ubisoft went in that direction, as Ghost Recon: Wildlands didn't require a connectio to play. Now I have enjoyed the 50+ hrs I have put into Breakpoint thus far, but forced online is one part of the game that I simply cannot defend.

Whereas with Hitman, the way it works, in offline mode, you don't have acess to any equipment unlocked through ranking up. You can still play it, but it's like a no-frills version.

Brian Blessed would make a great villain. Maybe for Jean-Paul Scipio, if they use Forever and a Day as a influence or adaption. Speaking of FAAD, I would like to see them use this, Richard Maibaum and Michael G Wilson's original scripts of Bond 15, and even Jeffery Deaver's Carte Blanche. I know a lot of Bond fans don't like it, but there are bits that could be adapted well for a video game.

I have expressed this wish before, but I would love to see IOI eyeing FAAD and Wilson & Maibaum's origin story as inspirations, copiously drawing from these two stories to create a new narrative. However, I suppose it would be more complicated to also include elements of Carte Blanche. Still, I think these are the best bases for this project.

Ironically, even "Offline" mode in Hitman 3 requires you to be online.

At long last, the issues are fixed. The game is now playable! I will forgive IOI when I dive into the game tonight and experience it as it should be.

It is utterly fantastic. Have played the first two new locations for 3, and its jaw dropping.

    Very interesting, thank you.

Small tidbits I gleaned from pushing this through Google translate:
Barbara Broccoli was originally against the idea, because previous games were not "worthy enough" and that it was "violence for the sake of violence". Obviously IOI's pitch turned her head, so we probably won't see a straight shooter (not that I expected that from IOI anyway).

IOI is doubling their workforce from currently 200 people to 400 people for the next years. I would assume not all 400 people work exclusively on Project 007, but the game obviously is massive for them.

"We are very keen to make a game of very high quality, which young people all over the world fall in love with. And I am sure that we will."

There is mention of "life-threatening missions, raucous car chases and evil villains", although that is not a direct quote, so I wouldn't take that as a confirmation of car chase sequences.

When they pitched to Barbara Broccoli directly, IOI had already been working on this project for two years.

And, as @antovolk already said: Completely original story not based on any previous story or actor.

I played through the first three locations last night and wow, what an incredible set of locations. The second in particular was a real treat. I also think the third is going to be very popular for replays. It's a fun challenge and I can see near endless possibilities for creative eliminations.

It's a shame the launch was dampened by troubles with the online nonsense, but now that it's good to go I am quickly reminded of why IOI is the perfect developer for Bond. With the emphasis on story in Hitman 3 so far it even feels more like a Bond film than the first two.

  • Wow working on a game for two years before getting official approval is a bold move lol. Hopefully that means it will be ready sooner than expected.

It feels like a long time since I was excited this much for Bond. I am really stoked for this. It's been too long, but knowing that the licence is now in good hands, makes the wait feel worthwhile.

Provided they don't bring this "always online" nonsense over, I agree with you. @Ryan's experience sounds terrible, and I'm not interested in buying a game and not being able to play it for several days because of server issues or some shit. At some point we have to vote with our dollars and communicate to developers that certain things are unacceptable.

I don't know I will be able to hold this line when it comes to Project 007, but honestly nobody should pre-order a game or buy it day one. Server load and all of that crap is so prevalent and publishers have gotten so good at showing reviewers only the great parts of their games that a week of real-life experience by a number of people is needed to really see how good a game is.

True. It's tough because some people need to buy it and try it day one so they can get all the bugs worked out. Very grateful to early adopters! For a Bond game, I'll likely be one of these people (despite everything I've said up to now). But this goes beyond real reason.

Fingers crossed. As I said before, the forced online is the only part of Ghost Recon: breakpoint that I don't like. And there is no reason for it to even be there. You can play th egame so, so you shouldn't need a connection.

The last two Hitman games could be played offline, but as I haven't yet played this new one, I don't understand what exactly the issue was. Sounds like they have sorted it out now, though.

The issue with playing the Hitman games offline, for me and many other players, is that the full game as intended is not available. You can play the maps but you can't play the challenges and it doesn't save your progress (ie. You can't level up or earn unlockables). It's kind of like playing a demo of the game, when there's really no reason the challenges and unlockable need to be tied to online. It's hard to bother grinding for the SASO challenge on Master Mode (a fan favourite) when it won't even save or give you the reward.

A further issue arose this time with the transferring of Hitman 2 progress into Hitman 3. They were supposed to have the progress transfer website ready to go ahead of launch but for whatever reason that didn't happen. Instead, it went live just minutes before launch so with the influx of players heading to IOI's website to transfer progress it completely crashed. IOI had recommended transferring progress before playing Hitman 3 since the transfer would overwrite any Hitman 3 data, so naturally everyone flocked to the website to do so.

Add that to better than anticipated pre-orders and sales the game servers were down most of launch day as well. I realize IOI is a small developer and most of the issues were probably unanticipated, but nevertheless it made for a pretty strong argument as to why the full gameplay should be available offline.

Red dead redemption 2, day 1, was beautiful. A truly magical experience jumping into it. Though I suppose rockstar is in their own class.

Red Dead Online (and GTA Online, for that matter) were absolute disasters at launch. However, the single player modes of both were perfectly playable at launch as they should be. Red Dead is in a class of its own for gaming.

GTA V is too I'd say. I never played the Red Dead franchise but I've heard amazing things. Nice that there are still some games that rely on their single player.

Well, perhaps a trilogy, but what I'm getting from some quotes is that there are a lot of "but"s and "if"s, among them
    • IO themselves look back on the whole experience in a positive way, as these are untested waters for them
    • EON likes what they have done and are happy with how Bond is presented in the game (given BB wasn't very keen to hand out the licence to anyone in the first place)
    • The way Bond is presented in the game fits with the franchise going forward or IO is allowed to keep developing the game franchise as a separate entity from the films
    • The game does well both critically (EON probably wants to shed off the image of Bond games being lacklustre cash grabs) and financially (MGM is in it for the money and nothing else)

That third point is what interests me the most, as I never really thought this would go beyond one game. My guess is that EON wants NTTD (how delayed it might be) to come out before Project 007, so that the game bridges the gap in between Craig stepping down and EON announcing his successor. Like we saw with FRWL the game and GE: RA, when there isn't a Bond incumbent, EON are fine with having a Bond game that features an original Bond. When Craig became Bond, the games all featured his likeness. Furthermore, BB has tried very hard to establish the perception that there's only one Bond that matters, which is the Bond incumbent.

I imagine if they made a second game, that would be out at the moment Bond #7 has already been announced. And if IO Interactive were allowed to keep making a game with 'their' Bond, it would be the first time ever that EON has allowed for two different Bonds to co-exist. (The Dynamite Comics don't count here, as EON has no influence over those)
So I'm left wondering if a second game might have a new story but feature the likeness (and perhaps voice) of the new actor, rather than a continuation of IO's original new Bond. But perhaps EON has warmed up to multiple Bond 'verses' at the same time...

Still, let's first hope that Project 007 is a good game and releases smoothly! And I don't say no to playing cards.

It's a double negative in that sentence, so it's actually a yes to card games from me. :) Apologies for making it complicated (and possibly grammatically incorrect).
I do hope that if they incorporate a card game, the outcome has consequences, e.g. if you lose, the following mission gets more difficult. Sometimes when game have card games, you just play until you win, and then the game proceeds with a cutscene of you winning the game, which does not impact the game at all. I hope they do it right!

I think what @DeerAtTheGates is saying, is that it would be cool if you got to progress whether or not you won or lost, but what happens when you progress changed depending on your outcome in the game (and I agree). What you're saying is, you don't get to progress at all until you win.

It would be amazing to be in the middle of a ski chase in the Alps being chased by a helicopter, swimming at night with sharks all around as you approach a villains lair, leaping from one plane to another in mid air, sitting in an Aston Martin and deploying some new gadgets. Oh, wait that only works in VR.

When they pitched to Barbara Broccoli directly, IOI had already been working on this project for two years.

And, as @antovolk already said: Completely original story not based on any previous story or actor.

Wow that sounds very impressive if they've persuaded Ms Broccoli when she was against the idea. Her point about 'violence for the sake of violence' is quite a good one to be honest- the last few Bond games have featured a pretty relentless amount of murder which never really sat right with Bond- he kills people, but not that many people!
