You'd have to change it to past tense, because she's now dead.
  • Aw geez, that’s much too young. Another reminder to cherish everything. My thoughts are with her family. I only knew Tanya Roberts from AVTAK, but she was very good and memorable in her role. Her legacy lives on in Bond and her other films.

In the obituary on the main page, it says that the cause of death is not known, but "was not covid19 related". There is surely thousands of things her death wasn t related to, so why the need to mention this virus in a news piece that has nothing to do with it?

Because that is automatically the immediate question many will ask whenever someone dies these days. They're just staying ahead of speculation.

Its not only virus : Brendan McKane , "Miles Mayhem" in classic 80s toon MASK - Mobile Armd Strike Kommand (asbestos , McQueen died of that too back in the day) , Luke Harper (non-virus lung related)

"Because Bond stars are known to live long"

Sometimes they die relative young : Shaw , Sakata , Mike France , OP extra , Gothard

Man, her boyfriend looks like some hobo. Surely Tanya could have done better than this guy. I mean I don’t know anything about him but going by appearances alone... YIKES!!

Supposedly Moritas widow is forging her late husbands autograph : she bought unsgd KK posters on ebay then they suspiciously turned up sgd on ebay - she has sold 100s of these. She also at one time handled Pats fanmail. Real Pat Morita signature is rare , i guess pre-KK he mightve sgd ttm as he could handle the volume then.

Absolutely shocking about how the passing of Tanya Roberts has been handled.

    RIP

She was my first "Bond girl crush," as AVTAK was the first Bond film I saw, back when I was seven. When I used to act out my own 007 adventures in my back yard, "Stacy Sutton" was always my imaginary female companion.
I love this story. When I was a kid, I used to play "Bond film" as well. I had a hula hoop that I used for the gunbarrel. The bad guy was usually an evil industrialist.

She gave that character a heart that wasn't necessarily there on the page, and she still remains the most "normal" of all Bond women, the only one in the whole series (in my opinion) who seems like you could actually meet and date in real life.
I agree with this. Stacey is a very warm, down-to-earth character. And the character works well with Roger's Bond.

I hope Tanya Roberts recovers from her condition.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad to know I'm not the only crazy person who pretended to be James Bond in his back yard :) And it's nice to see some Tanya Roberts / Stacy Sutton love on this page in the last few days.

I would always perform the gun barrel in front of a mirror, drowning in my dad's wedding costume, with my toy gun in my hand and a synthesizer version of the Bond theme playing in the background. ;-)

When imagining my favourite Bond girl, Tanya was always on my mind. Say what you want about her acting, the character, ... she has always remained an exceptionally beautiful woman, who should never have taken such a beating for giving us the "weak" Tracy, but who instead deserved a lot of praise for giving warmth and glamour to an otherwise poorly written character. She didn't clown up that firetruck chase; she somehow found the same energy (James--Oh! J--Oh!) that Moore was able to find (oooOOOOooooh!). They turned "stupid" into "entertaining".

AVTAK is one of my least favourite Bond films, but Tanya Roberts is one of the more enjoyable elements in it. I have always appreciated her as a Bond girl and I will always remember her as an angel.

I had no idea Carson/McMahon treated her so poorly. Shame on them.

She seemed like a very nice, shy person. RIP.

The good thing is that every Bond movie conveys a sort of immortality to its stars. The films will be watched forever.
  • I agree with your sentiments, @DarthDimi. Beautiful tribute. While it’s easy to focus on the damsel in distress scenes her character sometimes is ridiculed for or to play the game of imagining alternative casting, Tanya Roberts exuded palpable warmth and charm as Stacey and is a key part of the film’s appeal.

    Well said DD! =D>
  • I re-watched AVTAK last night, a film I have great sentimental value for, despite its flaws. I was once again struck by the warmth and charm of Roberts's performance. There are so many little moments, like when she sounds the siren in the fire truck and flashes that playful smile to Bond, that make me fall in love with her every time.

Thanks, guys. She deserves it. For years now, I've been told that AVTAK is an awesome film suffering from a terrible actress as the Bond girl. My opinion is that a lovely Bond girl was wasted to a subpar Bond film.

Agreed, best moment in that scene.

I would argue that neither Roberts nor the film is subpar, but I would also say that Roberts is better than the film. When people say her character is "whiny" or "weak" I think they're all referring to just one scene - the elevator sequence. And let's be honest, if I were trapped in a burning elevator, I'd be pretty whiny and weak, too. Other than that one scene, Stacey is resourceful, intelligent, and clever. Bond would never have worked out Zorin's scheme without her, nor would he have been able to stop it.

I've never understood the flack she got for the elevator sequence, myself. She perfectly portrays being terrified in that scene, and her character isn't used to that level of danger.
Now if it had been Wai Lin in the elevator shaft screaming, I 'd have a problem with it.

I think its actually the air blimp sequence at the end that gives the character the reputation of being a bimbo. For crying out loud, the baddies sneak up on her with an AIR BLIMP and she still gets taken by surprise. And this is with Bond shouting '' STACY! BEHIND YOU! ''

RIP to Tanya Roberts. Stacy Sutton is the least of the Bond girls, at least among them but not her fault, not her fault. Had a long running career, and the false death announcement really makes you wonder. Was she being coerced. Was she being manipulated by her partner, or other parties. Think back to the end of Stan Lee's life what was revealed how his caretakers were taking advantange of him. Think of that next time you watch a Marvel superhero movie and one of his "cute" cameos comes up. There's a darker side to that. That being said, I am wishing my final farewell to Tanya Roberts. Thank you for the laughs, the kisses, the smiles and the movies. May justice be done to those who harmed you.

Honorary Bond alumni JOHN RICHARDSON has passed on from COVID. He, of course, was one of the final candidates for OHMSS.

There are two men I wished to play James Bond.. Patrick McGoohan And John Richardson. Bon voyage my friend. Never met the man but by strange coincidence his nephew came to me for a consultation on a personal matter. and he had a few really great stories about john Richardson. The nephew couldn't stop telling them.

That's interesting. Very cool! I always thought Richardson had a Bond like quality in SHE.

I understand Michael Apted, director of The World Is Not Enough, has passed away at 79. Very sad. He’ll always be remembered for his amazing and groundbreaking BBC series Up.

Now Michael Apted. He did lay out some of the groundwork for Daniel Craig’s era, just in The World is not Enough. Apparently, he almost directed Die Another Day as well, but dropped out just after he signed up. This is according to the book Some Kind of Hero.

Sad to hear of the death of Michael Apted. TWINE was the second James Bond film I saw in the cinema and to my mind it remains one of Pierce Brosnan's best, along with GE.
