I love, love, LOVE Timothy Dalton! He was terrific as James Bond, and The Living Daylights is my third favorite movie of all time. The only problem I saw in his performance in LTD is that he seemed uncomfortable saying the one-liners in the screenplay. But that problem was taken care of in Licence To Kill. Ah, Licence To Kill! I loved the bar fight scene, was so happy that this was the Bond movie that Desmond Llewellyn got the most screen time as Q in the entire series, thought Carey Lowell was great, hated Talisa Soto (I really liked the red dress she wore in the casino scene, however), felt that Benicio del Torro and Robert Davi were good villians, and Wayne Newton was strange but funny.

As for Timothy Dalton' s non-Bond films, my favorites are The Rocketeer, Wuthering Hights, and Jane Eyre (I know that it's a BBC series and not a movie, but just roll with the punches, okay?).

Good to have another Dalton fan on board!
You should check out 'Flash Gordon' and 'Hot Fuzz', he was great in them, and 'Penny Dreadful ' of course, with the wonderful Eva Green!

Great to see another Dalton fan here! I loved THE ROCKETEER and saw it several times in the cinema. WUTHERING HEIGHTS and JANE EYRE I also loved.
One of my favorite Dalton performances was in HAWKS. THE KING's WHORE is another showcase of Dalton's talent and skills.

Thank you! I have Hot Fuzz but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I liked him in The Tourist.

Funny, I was thinking about The Tourist just now, as I was remembering a trip to Venice with a friend. The film came out soon afterwards and we went to see it together. It could have used more Tim (but what couldn't?).

Tim was the best thing in it! Awful film!

True, but contrary to most viewers I rather liked it. I also liked the original French version with Sophie Marceau.

Having said that, more Tim is always great. Penny Dreadful was a treat on that account. The Rocketeer and The Lion in Winter also deliver though.

Anyone seen a movie called 'Agatha' (1979)?
A film about a supposed incident when novelist Agatha Christie went missing for several says!
Stars Dustin Hoffman and Vanessa Redgrave plays
Agatha. Our Tim plays her husband, if I recall. Saw it once many years ago! I think Michael Apted directed!

I did! Not bad, though no masterpiece either. 6.5 or 7 out of 10 I'd say.

If there was anyone to play a Bond who comes back to Mi6 as a very aged ex-Double O... it’s Dalton.

I recently bought Centennial. I haven t seen this in about 40 years, so I hope it is as good as I remember. Dalton isn t a huge part of it, but this was the first I saw of him, and I kept thinking he would be an excellent James Bond.

Barbara Carrera, Donald Pleasence and Anthony Zerbe also have parts.

It is a tv series, based on a James Michener novel.

I remember the book, it was huge and vaguely remember the miniseries. Had no idea Dalton was in it either. In that photo, he looks like I picture he'd be if he was Bond for OHMSS or in the early '70s.

It is from the late 70s. He was in about half of the episodes, and the picture above is from his first appearance. He aged through the series.

Beautiful work. And I’ve always thought he had/has a wonders face for James Bond. Handsome yet very sly and predatory; a wolf. Perfect for Bond.
Nice work @mtm. I admire that kind of talent.

Wolflike is exactly how I always think of him. (Wolves are my favourite animals, incidentally.)

    Lee Van Cleef...of course.

Dalton is wolf-like and Connery was often described as panther-like, moving like a cat. I think there may a future thread about what animals the other Bond actors resemble.

Beside that, Dalton still stands as the closest physical example of the Bond in my mind when reading the books.

Wolf-like, yes. Not that there was any doubt, really.
Dalton: An Arctic Wolf. Coming towards us. We stay absolutely still. It's very wary. (Observing, excited.) This is kind of a miracle, isn't it... it realy is. That is a wolf. A wild, wild wolf.
Narrator: Actor Timothy Dalton has a real passion for wolves, and we'll join him on his quest to find one in the wild. The fact that wolves arouse such fear and hatred in us has always fascinated Dalton. On his journey he begins to understand the true nature of an animal that has been totally misunderstood. Who better to take us on an adventure but the man that plays James Bond. Dalton will lead us into some of the wildest country left in North America.

I watched this on TV as a teen. And thus I can name the precise moment Dalton went from 'my favourite Bond' to 'massive crush'.

I would say adapt SOLO by William Boyd as a starting point, but both of TD’s movies are drug smuggling in one way or another. But yes, a one-off for TD would be great!
