I guess it's worth pointing out that any debate over whether Universal/MGM should have stuck to their November release date NTTD in the UK at least is now academic as the country will be locked down at that point.

Excellent interview of Fukunaga in the French magazine "Première".

Short summary (sorry if my english is imperfect) :

    - For him and Linus Sandgren, color grading had to be a source of emotion. The whole film is thought as if the events took place in the last minutes of the twilight. They wanted a mixture of blue and white (this probably explains why the colour grading is so different in Matera between the first and second trailer).

    - Casino Royale is his first inspiration, he considers the film "vastly better" than Quantum, Skyfall and Spectre. NTTD will use themes from "Casino Royale" (how does it feel to be a killer...), but not from Skyfall and Spectre.

    - He had a very important creative control (director and main writer).

    - He is a fan of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

NTTD sounds like it’ll be a classic based on what hearing. Ugh, I need to see this film yesterday.

There's a gofundme happening right now to raise the £600 million so some guy can just buy the film himself and distribute it before Christmas :)) hope it works out for him.

It fits Horowitz' canon: whomever replaces 007, becomes 007, which doesn't seem to be the case with the other 00 designations.

    It does! I love it.

It's also not a new idea. If I'm remembering correctly, earlier drafts of Die Another Day had Bond returning to find 'Gala Brand' (later renamed Miranda Frost) had the same subplot, she'd been given his 007 number while he was in North Korea. And the film was a spiritual journey of sorts with him trying to earn it back.

(I'd doubt that's the route NTTD takes, but it's still great to see such a promising narrative twist finally reach the screen.)

No probs. It's not your fault. Only noticed something was wrong so better to be on the safe side
  • The NTTD fundraiser campaign has currently raised £800. I donated £10 myself about a week ago now - the money raised (if it doesn't reach their target) will go to 2 food charities in the UK (because of the recent free school meals debacle).

The last thing in the world I would like to see is fans with their fingers in the professional world of making and distributing Bond films. I do like the charity idea though.

I can't remember if I've heard that before or not. It would have been a perfectly decent thing to do but maybe it's a nice idea that would have been thrown away a bit considering all of the other stuff going on. I get the feeling this film will explore it slightly more, which is good.
There's no better way to illustrate the message that Bond has been replaced than by giving his number to a new person.

Yes and no, in that in the book Bond actually suggests himself that he takes over the dead agent's 007 designation because he thinks it will 'send a message' to all of the baddies that MI6 are relentless: you kill one and another appears in his place. It's not entirely convincing but kind of works.

Ah yes, correct @mtm, forgot about that. I mistakenly thought it was Bill and M that made that decision.

No worries: I just re-read it recently and although I did enjoy it the how-Han Solo-got-his-gun stuff is fairly heavy handed in places: I think Sixtine turns him on to both martinis shaken-not-stirred and his Morlands cigarettes. He almost seems not to be able to tell what he likes! :D

The article touches upon where Safin may have got his scars in a similar type accident to Dr. No. Also makes some insinuating comments as to the plot of Safin.

If you’ve seen the trailer for “No Time to Die,” you know that Malek portrays a character named Safin. Not much is known about him or his evil plans, but we do know that Safin wears a mask to hide his disfigured face and that Malek has previously said that the character is “unsettling.” But in a new profile of Malek over at GQ, it’s clear that Safin isn’t the typical bad guy that you might see in a spy film. He’s something more. But what is so special about him is going to remain a surprise.

“Once we got into Christoph Waltz/Blofeld territory, you can’t go small again,” director Cary Fukunaga said about Malek’s villain character. “We had to think bigger. It’s tricky because you don’t want to make a cliché supervillain, but you have to make someone that’s threatening not only to Bond and the people he loves but to the world at large.”

How do you go bigger than Blofeld? Well, one theory that seems to be making the rounds amongst Bond fans is that Malek’s character, Safin, is indeed a new version of the classic villain, Dr. No. When pressed about this possibility, Malek neither confirmed nor denied.

“Yes,” Malek said about the speculation. “That’s interesting. I’m not going to bite on that, but I do think it’s interesting. They’ll just have to wait and see.”

The reason for the Safin/Dr. No theory stems from the physical look of both characters. There’s no denying that Malek does resemble Joseph Wiseman from the 1962 Bond film, “Dr. No.” But not only that, the film presents a villain that has disfigured himself due to radiation, which is similar to the issues that face Safin in the new film. And if you want a deeper dive, you can venture into the Bond discussions had by fanboys and fangirls that dissect it even further.

Regardless of whether or not Safin is Dr. No, it’s clear that Daniel Craig’s final Bond film is going to feature a villain that is even bigger than Blofeld, who might be the most famous villain of them all. So, that should definitely pique the interest of 007 fans hoping for a memorable finale for Craig.

    Interesting...
Wonder what his scars mean? What kind of experiment has he been carrying out on himself?

Radiation has the potential to alter genes, right? Maybe this is where the whole genetic warfare plot comes into play.

With regards to the release of NTTD? When ever the movie is released? November 2021 is my prediction? I think now their should be without doubt a dedication to Sir Sean Connery and Sir Roger Moore before the movie starts?

These two actors are without doubt irreplaceable to why these movies still continue to this day. Eon and MGM should give them this recognition at least IMHO. ^:)^ :-bd
