Happy James Bond Day, fellow Bond fans & friends. I'm happy we're all here again, amid the pandemic....let's not take that for granted. Even with NTTD's delay, there's something about James Bond Day that just feels right. For starters, I'll be listening to TLD's score, Surrender & YKMN :)

I'm in 1000% agreement. I intend to listen to some John Barry 007 scores today and then re-watch Dr. No tonight.

I posted this to the "Happy Birthday" tread, but I'll added it here as well. Its a cool photoshop noting that this date (October 5 1962) is a defining one in the history of popular culture.

This delay is even more harsher on Craig. He'll be Bond from 2006-2021 with just five films. Considering how good he is, it really hurts.

He'll be Bond until the day a new actor will be presented at a press conference.
So he will be Bond until 2022 or even longer.

Dalton was Bond from 1986 until 1994, when Brosnan was announced.

Not quite. Dalton was actually attached to GE up until April of 1994, which is why some consider his run to be 1986-1994.

When NTTD comes out, that's the very date Craig's run has ended.

He'd still be Bond on paper until the next one is announced.
And he was Bond since Oct 14 2005 when he was announced, not November 2006.

That makes no sense. Craig even isn't attached to a hypothetical Bond 26, so his run effectively ends when NTTD is released, which for now is 2005-2021.

I've got 3 degrees, had 4 jobs and lived in 5 places during the time of Craig's era!

It's so sad about the cinema closure/loss of jobs, but given I watched Tenet last month with just my wife and 2 kids with no other people in attendance
Watched it the week after it premiered. Had booked tickets in advance. That was a good idea, because the theatre was packed (though some restrictions, every 2nd seat had to be left empty)
I'd be happy to pay £50 to watch NTTD at home if it meant I also received a digital copy
The moment it becomes available for streaming, it will be copied and pirated, like any other movie.

Why not release it for a short period of time in drive-in theatres?

so far they haven't said otherwise but I'm glad that the US release is the same as the rest of the world. It's always irritating that everyone gets the film 1 or even 2 weeks before us in America.

My guess is that outside of the US there are not many drive-in locations. Bar the odd one of two. I think any film once released is subject to piracy and it's no different filming a cinema screen as it would be recording a tv screen. It typically always ends in terrible quality. I think given the anticipation, SVOD or some sort of one-off premiere paid option seems like an ideal fix. Though with the recent letter to the US Gov't, signed by both Barbara and Michael for economic support for cinemas - I'm sure people would accuse them of hypocrisy if they offered NTTD via streaming sources.

Just hearing reports that Dune is being pushed back 12 months. April is looking optimistic now. :((

Six months is a long time but we're near the end of the year and things really haven't gotten much better. April is seeming quite optimistic, indeed. I fear another delay may be inevitable but I'd love to be wrong. If they keep pushing it, there won't be any cinemas left to show the film when it does release.

My kids are going back to school next week. Last month, I was comfortable with this, as well as the idea of movies returning to theaters. The picture was much brighter.

Not anymore. I can't speak for the rest of the world, but the U.S. has blown this. This shouldn't be surprising.

The push back to April is necessary. But as I have posted previously, there are two issues at hand, now, that NTTD must navigate: 1. Whether or not the virus will still have a stronghold; 2. Whether or not movie theaters will still be in business.

If the studios were truly wise, they would use this six months to come up with a viable plan to release the film in the current landscape, given that April seems even more unlikely than November did. Delaying the film again for the fifth time in hopes of a theatrical release would be incredibly dense. We are no longer living in a time where a global theatrical release is possible. There’s going to be a time in a couple of months where everyone involved will have to make the decision of going forward with April (if that’s even remotely possible), or going with Plan B.

Depending on whether or not theatres survive (can’t even believe I’m typing this), Plan B could either be a simultaneous PVOD and staggered cinema release where possible, a standard PVOD release, or something new. But an endless cycle of delays every 6 months has become wishful thinking as we head into ‘21.

The possibility of seeing a Bond film on the big screen again will largely depend on government support for theatre chains. If there is none, then we must face the reality that cinema-going will become a niche. As it stands now, theatre-going is not on people’s minds.

At last, someone mirrors what I've been thinking and trying to say. This is exactly it.

I’d said earlier, there’s got to be a combination of options available. PVOD with the option of a digital copy at a later date might make the high upfront cost palitable. Given we know it’s got to be north of £40 to potentially make back the sort of money hoped for (800k-1million). Yes, I know that level of revenue has not happened before with PVOD but Bond surely has a better chance than most of achieving this. Hell do it conjunction with a cinema chain and get discounted tickets once it’s safe to view a 2nd time.

As others have said it seems a little bonkers to now be in a position whereby we’re wedded to a theatrical release in cinemas when it’s just not feasible. Globally we’re seeing rising infection rates - it’s just looking impossible.

I think most people have HD1080p/4K capable TVs, sufficient internet bandwidth, means of access ( consoles, Roku, Fire sticks, satellite etc...) and quality sound options like soundbars + surround sound. You could argue we’re better placed than ever for a unique Bond home theatrical experience. I’m not saying it’s an either or situation but you’ve got to be adaptable.

Well we should also remember it's not a unique situation to No Time to Die. While April is uncertain, there are plenty of films planned for an earlier release, so plenty to test the waters, and we should have an idea of what will happen when it comes to round to those film's releases.

Yes, in the video Madeleine seems, at this point, to be much more captivating than in all of SPECTRE.

What's interesting to me is that we might have been wrong about Madeleine. She's not

I’m gonna recap some stuff here:
-Craig’s head was shaved and wearing a bow tie with a t-shirt
-DC explains that NTTD was delayed because they wanted the film to be unveiled at the same time and now isn’t the time to do it.
-DC said his Bond story wasn’t complete after Spectre, talked about storylines to finish the overarching story.
-Talks about his announcement as Bond back in 2005, says he was at a market when he received the news. He proceeded to buy vodka and had a martini for the first time.

-First NTTD clip after the break(!!!)
-DC’s advice for next Bond: Don’t f*** it up.

-DC says he received rough cuts of potential theme tunes, he sits in a car and cranks the song up to decide which song to go with
-DC’s favorite Bond theme songs: Skyfall, GoldenEye, Nobody Does It Better (Craig has a crush on Carly Simon)
-*SPOILERS*First NTTD clip: Bond on Matera bridge, chases some kid. He stops in the middle, car shoots at him and dives at a rock to avoid it. Primo and the car both go at Bond and he jumps off the bridge. Primo looks over the bridge, he has some bug eye thing going on.

-New TV spot (lots of new lines)

Holy ****, the full clip of the bridge jump was incredible.
The action is shot and cut in such an immediate, intense way. This feels nothing like Spectre. It could have been ripped out of a sequence in Casino Royale or even Quantum of Solace (without the disorientation). Just incredibly well made -- pure Bond.

And Zimmer's score for that bit is unexpected, but gripping. Extreme tension and disorientation -- reflecting (presumably) Bond's inner state. Really feels like this clip is part of a much more specifically designed sequence. Not a "Bond moment" per se but a moment of desperation for the character with real dramatic stakes hitting him.

    Loved it.
