After the thrills of the finale, it was nice to get another action scene before the end! And it was a nice throwback to the early films where the villain/henchman turned up for a final reel showdown! Only this time it was Bond who turns up unexpectedly!

Just watched OP. It is always a strange watch.

Even my very favorite Bond films have some long, kinda dull stretches. I can't think of anything dull or boring in OP. It's just that there isn't a lot of "WOW" moments either.

People always talk about how much Bond-as-clown and Tarzan, and "sit kitty", etc. drive people crazy. I don't disagree, but to me the worst thing about the film was Kristina Wayborn's acting and mannerisms.

Kabir Bedi is one of the VERY best henchmen in the series, however.

Gorgeous woman but she does feel kinda off indeed.

I find Maud Adams in OP much more attractive.

I think the whole sequence starting with the action on the train and ending with the reveal of the bomb in the circus is a highlight, and so is the stuntwork on the plane towards the end. The weakest segment of the film I think is the overly lengthy scenes with More and Adams on the island and the slightly goofy action which follows.

Still an absolute treat to watch. Never lets me down. Timothy Dalton IS James Bond! Best pts gets things off to a thrilling start, it also a top contender for best opening sequence, the fake defection, torn straight from Fleming, and how cool is Dalton in that tux with the velcro lapels!
The villains get a hard time on here, but i really like them, Koskovs slimy rogue, Whitaker as a mercenary whackjob, and the very physical threat of Necros, vicious kitchen fight and killed off in one of the best stunt sequences in the series. So many memorable scenes, the Aston martin chase, the confrontation with Pushkin, relationship with Kara, death of Saunders, battle at the airport, and i akways loved the final shootout in Whitakers war room!
Another satisfying watch of one of my favourite Bond movies!

Is 4th in my Bond film ranking, and will probably never budge. CR came close but even that couldn't shift this fantastic Flemingesque Bond film! Love it!

    Moonraker (The Leonard Pine cut)

I think this is a great Bond with my own omissions.

After Bond meets Goodhead in Venice I skip to Bond arriving at the glass factory. Cutting out the ridiculous Gondola sequence. Then after Bond checks the warehouse in Rio and a close encounter with Jaws I skip to the boat chase, cutting out all the cable car nonsense and what follows. Then it's on to enjoy the rest of this epic!

Best bits: The PTS, the centrifuge sequence, the laboratory with the poison gas, flight into space and the chase to destroy the pods.

And of course Moore is a joy 😁👍

Haha! Interesting way to view it, mate.
Silly and all as those scenes you omitted are, i feel it wouldnt be MR, if i didnt watch them. And it doesnt take away from enjoying the many great scenes it has! And I concur, Moore is his usual marvellous self! Always thought Basseys theme gets overlooked, always liked it!

It's a lovely theme. And Barry's score is gorgeous 👍

A great film because of the great script, music, editing, action, acting, locations etc.
It's a shame peter hunt didn't direct another bond film after doing such a great job.

Quantum of Solace and while there's a lot to love such as the locations, cinematography, fashion and a half-decent David Arnold score, it's still disappointing with a light narrative and editing that makes the action incoherent. While it's grown on me over time, coming off the high of Casino Royale unfortunately Quantum falls flat on it's face.

    TND.

As always,i had great fun watching this one this evening.Brosnan is a lot more confident in the role after GE,David Arnolds score rocks, great girls, great action, and Jonathan Pryce as one of the most enjoyable villains. It probably suffers from a little too much action ( I would have cut the sweat shop fight between Wai Lin and Carvers goons and the bike chase goes on a little longer than it should ) buts its highly entertaining Bond adventure.

I really like the sweat shop fight; perhaps I'd rather cut the newspaper factory escape if possible. Some excessive gunfight could be cut, and yes, maybe something of the bike chase.
Iv always felt the sweat shop fight comes too soon after the huge bike chase that it felt like overkill.I understand maybe the creators put it in there so that Michelle Yeoh could demonstrate her martial arts abilty and appeal to her fans in China, but she gets plenty of that to do in the finale.

I don't mind much action if it's good, and the martial arts, bike chase and stealth ship action are good IMO. But indeed, some non-action sequence in between would have been better, or - better still - having the martial arts in the Hamburg factory scene instead of Vietnam.

“Waste him? Is that a good thing?”

Something bizarre happened to me last night. I decided to watch LALD spontaneously, on a whim. Not part of a Bondathon and not for any reason. I watched it because I felt like it.

Last time I done a Bondathon, I kinda ragged on LALD, and that bitterness left a quite sour taste.

There is a lot to enjoy in LALD. George Martin’s funktastic score; Yaphet Kotto’s urbanely sadistic villainy; a charismatic goon squad; Sir Rog being completely of his depth in Harlem; some delicious one liners; the exquisite visage that is Jane Seymour; the mixing of blaxploitation and Bond’s world is just so neat; the combination of the Voodoo elements with the more overt humour creates a wonderfully macabre and colourful film; the vestiges of Fleming in the benign bizarre aspects of this movie and the caddishness of Moore’s Bond – his haughty indifference to the common person, is in line with Connery’s callous nature. Reflecting that both Bonds are cold and professional agents, who’d do anything to get the mission done.

And most significant of all, is the mega watt smile, and the most magnificence sideburns, adorning the cab driver.

I may start a mini Bondathon. Any suggestions on where to go from here would be much appreciated.

TND falls flat on its face with that dreadful stealth boat finale. A Rambo light bore fest you desperately want to end... The whole nonsense with Paris Carver, the character, the actress, the awful dialogue and soap operatic direction which belongs in a low budget TV series, is another low point.

Your suggestions have been noted chaps.

I was thinking of LTK dear @Birdleson. Plenty of Fleming connections with LALD. But, as soon as you mentioned watching LTK, I had quite the visceral reaction. I love me some Daltonator, and I enjoy LTK on the whole. But in these present circumstances, it's a mite too serious.

@marc, an excellent idea. Entertaining and iconic as all heck, featuring mammoth contributions of the founding fathers of Bond.

    You're welcome, Mr. Misanthrope :--)

Another idea might be DN if the first half isn't too tense under the circumstances. Very good villain and villain lair, e.g.; great locations.

My last watch was OHMSS. It was the first time that I watched it in English. The reason is that OHMSS is the only german DVD without the original language and I watched it finally on TV with the english voices.
I know that noone will agree but I didn't like it as much as I hoped. I thought that Bond's voice as Bray was odd and distracting and I prefer the german lines for some jokes.
I watched it with a colleague and he said that it was very stupid not checking out if Blofeld was really dead while hanging in the tree. Well, it really isn't too smart. The same with Blofeld saying that Bond csn't survive the avalanche and a few seconds later we see how they take Tracy alive and don't look for Bond...
    However, imo an awesome movie!

I caught the last half hour of Diamonds are Forever on the TV yesterday afternoon, essentially from the point at which Bond arrives at Willard Whyte's house and meets Bambi and Thumper.

It's not the greatest Bond film ever but there is pleasure in watching the movie. Barry's score is excellent, some of Whyte's lines are funny (and the delivery of said lines also funny), and I do like St John wearing very little.

The whole oil rig ending is fairly poor though, its just a budget rehash of OHMSS. Even Barry goes to sleep and just rehashes the '007 theme' from FRWL. And some of the VFX, like the exploding helicopters, are just downright atrocious.

Your middle paragraph sums up the best parts of DAF!! I would add Plenty O'Toole in there too 😁
