  • I got an email saying there'll; be another 'offer' emailed at midnight. If it's a tenner off, I'll be up for getting my fourth. Which, seeing as I have Casino, LALD, and Diamonds, will have to be Moonraker, won't it?

Where are you all getting these emails and letters with discounts? I’m signed up to the newsletter but haven’t had anything from them yet.
  • My email came from [email protected]. The one I had today said 'Black Friday is almost here', check your email after midnight.
I don't remember signing to a newsletter, but I might have done. I've only bought two books from them using my email.
  • I just got an email offering free postage on stuff ordered up to Monday. Not quite the tenner off, but still a good discount I suppose.
This was on the bottom of the email if it helps.

Have you bought something from them before?

I only started receiving those emails after I had bought a book.

Yes, as noted in earlier posts here. I only ever got a £10 voucher after my first purchase but never got any emails since then. I have all the Bond folio books now bar TB and LALD.
  • I got a £10 off voucher code in September saying 'happy birthday', and another \£10 off just over a month later. I bought DAF with the first, and I was lucky that LALD was announced while the second was valid. Having two so close together made me think these offers were pretty frequent.
I don't know how they knew my birthday.

Just ordered TB and LALD., the only ones I didn't have. I waited for Black Friday for free shipping last year too. It times nicely with Xmas present for myself, you also get the folio diary free. It's not a bad deal.

    Hyperbole.

It was meant to be hyperbole.

I can only think that perhaps you had to enter your date of birth somewhere when ordering the books for the first time? Presumably they simply stored that information and had an automated email set for the birthday date?

Fom retail experience I know that even coffee loyalty cards ask for your date of birth now when you register them online (so you can get a free coffee on your birthday) so perhaps the Folio Society has a similar marketing strategy arrangement? Otherwise, how would they know your birthday? That's assuming of course that they are not as ridiculously well connected as Quantum was in QoS! :)

But perhaps there is another explanation...who knows?

    Maybe they are florists?

(I did have to enter my date of birth when registering however)

As I suspected, that's the answer then. That's quite a clever marketing ploy from the Folio Society in that case.

If they don't do any big changes to their release schedule, or add a third book per year, it will basically be March > October > March > October for the next 3 years.

Is this right, TB came out last March? I thought it was the summer, but I may have forgotten. Another Folio in March and then NTTD in April... sweet!

I would love to pick these up but they are just so expensive to collect. Might have to settle for a couple favourites and call it a day.

My current plan is two a year, which will spread the cost out over time. I’ll probably strategically order when they divvy out free shipping vouchers, for birthdays and Black Friday.

Yes it came out in march.
Folio only released one Fleming book in May, which was in the first year they did two (2017, Dr. No). Since then they switched to march, and kept it consistently.

My better half has bought me LALD as a christmas present. I love it. Fay’s paintings are wonderful. Some convey danger, some convey eroticism, all convey a 1950s ambience. Best edition of LALD I’ve ever had.

Yeah I love the artwork for LALD. I was a little disappointed by TB, so it was great to see LALD be so great.
  • I've been given Goldfinger for Xmas!

Between you and me, I'd have preferred Moonraker, so that I'd have the first four, but I'm not complaining!

The artwork in that old LALD one looks terrible!

Whoever made the decision at Folio to commission Fay for the current artwork deserves a medal.

    Great photo, @shamanimal!

I also received LALD, and read it from cover to cover on Christmas Day with occasional meal breaks, because what are holidays for?

I was given LALD for christmass too. They look so good, I don't know if I want to read them, to be honest. Just out them away nice and safe.
