I can't see Eilish doing it to be honest. Dua Lipa seems far more likely.

The song was probably recorded months ago.

Umm....I'm not so sure. Dua Lipa's style is more dance-music. On the other hand, Billie Eilish is far more suited. She has a terrific voice and a very haunting, melancholic style.

Initially when I heard her name, I thought it sounded like pandering. Like Eon were chasing after a younger audience, but having listened to her stuff, I totally see her doing it.

I've listened to her music, not by choice, and she still sounds like she caters to an audience that you couldn't pay them enough money to watch a Bond film. They'd die a 1000 deaths if they watched Goldfinger...

It hardly matters, Bond in 2020 is a far cry from the Bond of 1964.

I actually think it makes sense to get an artist who can attract a new demographic. Plus, Adele and Sam Smith are both big artists who were very young when they got the job. Thus introducing a new audience to Bond. An audience that will likely stick around for NTTD.

Billie Eilish's style is in the same wheelhouse as Lana Del Rey and Lorde.

Lana Del Ray and Lorde... two more names I hope don't get anywhere near Bond.

Any of the following I would be happy with..

    Caro Emerald
    Bat For Lashes
    Sophie Ellis Bextor
    Beverly Knight
    Jamie Cullum
    Bryan Ferry
    Charlotte Gainsbourg

I see next to 0 chance of Bryan Ferry being choosen, but he has such smooth style, would have been perfect for Bond.
  • Speculation: Billie Eillish to sign the title song for NTTD?
I should preface this by saying that I am purely speculating here, but not without any basis. Cary Fukunaga only follows a few select people on his public Instagram account. As recently as yesterday, he began following Billie Eillish and her songwriter brother.

It could be nothing. He could simply be a fan. Though Eillish is one of the biggest singers around today. She is very zeitgeisty and hip. I have heard zero music from her. But you have to admit, it's curious that CJF is following here......
Good call. I remember last time you pointed out him following someone was Naomi Schiff, which turned out to be true. Quite telling he's not just following Billie Eilish, but also her songwriter brother.

    Thank you!

I do also think that it is too curious to ignore. After all, the film is only three months out from release. The title song usually drops around a month before the movie. That means we only have two months to go....

I think they have gone with Eilish as it's obviously a very 'on trend' choice. Plus, she seems like someone Fukunaga would advocate for.

She fits Eon's mould as she's a young artist who has the promise of becoming a massive international star. She also hasn't done a song for a film before and Eon like to have their singers be exclusive to the franchise.

I think her style is very suited to Bond musically.....this song could be a Bond theme:

In terms of overall style, well she is worryingly far removed from the Bond brand:

And while she would not be a romantic interest for Bond, I just think that a performer that young , under 20 invites unnecessary criticism and could prompt a unnecessary controversy.
There are way too many other, possible candidates who would not present the same potential issue.

I think the suitability of the person performing the title track depends on the content on the lyrics. It would be strange to see (and hear) a kid performing a song with lyrics about experience and themes like that.

This all depends on how much of a say CJF has in who performs the title song. He is more cutting edge, in terms of music: see True Detective and how T-Bone Burnett's music was weaved into that. At the same time, EON got a lot of mileage (and two Oscars) from more traditional Bond songs the past two films, performed by singers with wide, international acclaim.

    How I see this:

Female singer: CJF: Billie Eilish or Lana del Rey; EON: Sia or Ellie Goulding
Male singer: CJF: The Weeknd or James Bay; EON: Ed Sheeran or Harry Styles
Group: CJF: Arctic Monkeys or Twenty One Pilots; EON: Coldplay or Imagine Dragons

If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Sia. But that doesn't mean much. LOL

Sia's 2014 song "Elastic Heart" has the feel and sound of a Bond song:

For the record, SP isn't nearly as bad as its reputation.

It's all opinion and perspective. It is terrible as much as it isn't; you can't be wrong if you don't like it. Or vice versa.

Exactly. Reminds me of a colleague of mine who loves some hideous cheese. When I said I find it repulsive, he accused me of having a simple and primitive taste. I tried explaining to him that the reason he loves it and I hate it is that he lacks certain taste buds that I have. There is a certain repugnant taste that many people are unable to detect.

You said there was something wrong with him because he had a different opinion? :D
Isn’t it more likely you’re lacking the tastebuds which can detect the extra, pleasurable tastes? ;)

Never said there was anything wrong with him. Who is lacking what comes from the science community, not me. This guy is often obnoxious, so he needed to hear the truth, and it did shut him up.
    That’s ironic! :D

Speaking of Coldplay....@TripAces mentioned that earlier. Coldplay might not be the first choice, but I've always felt 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' from their 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' album sounds Bondian in some of it's part. There was something ominous about the Song's sound, so Coldplay had to sound that way too. So I think if Coldplay does a Bond Song, it won't sound like 'Princess of China' OR 'Fix You'.

Given all those Russian plates, the day they revealed Safin as the name of the villain it seemed pretty obvious Russia would’ve been part of the film. Glad it’s been confirmed.

Another member here already posted it over the weekend here a few pages back ;) only other thing is interviews with Lashana and Rami. For Lashana, aside from the already released quote about the 007 rumours, she talked about her being asked to audition with the Vesper/Bond train scene, followed by a couple of scenes from Spectre (one as Fiennes' M). As for Malek, he's very very guarded, though he did mention Fukunaga wanting Safin to feel like he could come from anywhere and the accent evoking (paraphrasing here) 'a voice that could have been heard centuries ago'... evocative of Safin wanting to prolong his life/slow aging?

Makes me even more excited. They have something up their sleeves and I think this is a villain that will knock our socks off.

Coming from a story-telling perspective, I love hearing Fukunaga say he wants the story to dictate the action, and; he wants the action to feel dangerous. Which means what we've seen so far are action sequences not meant to "beat" any one film. But it organically grew from the story (if reports are correct, this all gets set-off at Vesper's grave where we not only have a chase, but the story continues with Bond's distrust in Madeleine). This is what makes action memorable: when there are real stakes for the character(s)-- and in the AM chase we see the stakes are two-fold: one is for survival, the other is the survival of their relationship... (which looks like it might end at the train station, only to be picked up again, in some form, later in the film)

Thankfully Bond is no (JJ Abrams) Star Wars.
