MR Bond's clothing

edited May 2012 in Merchandise Posts: 469
I was looking at some of the pics of some of the community the other day and thought (like others before me), would it not be good to pick a few items from his wardrobe over the years.
BUT in these times of cut backs and pay freezes and higher bills, I would need to do it on a budget.
Does anyone know if I could still get a copy of the shirt Bond wears in the chase scene on the building site in Casino Royale ? And the jumper he wore when visiting Mathus in Italy ?
I have looked on ebay and have been shopping in a few shops around the south of England and have picked up a few bargins so far

    Hi,

As the shirt is quite casual I am not sure that it is made by Turnbull and Asser who made the other shirts for CR. I am sure that Turnbull and Asser could guide you on this matter (or someone else in this forum). The jumper is Tom Ford and can be found on www jamesbondlifestyle com.

Not only was the shirt in the construction site chase (the "Madagascar shirt") custom made for CR but so was the patterned cloth. To get a shirt like that you're only option is a very expensive replica. Otherwise you'll have to get a generic patterned shirt (which won't fit as well) off the rack. You can find the replicas on the internet by looking up "Madagascar shirt".

As for the jumper (I assume you mean the cardigan) I've near-perfect replicas at some of the more reasonable stores such as Zara and H&M - you just have to keep looking. Because it's pretty much summer now you may have to wait until the fall for a good selection of sweaters.

Yeah, the CR Madagascar shirt that Bond wears was beyond custom made. I saw a forum one time on this shirt, and someone actually remade it over time, and it looked really, really good. That's probably your best bet for getting one, unfortunately.
  • I'm hearing from a couple of sources that these Tom Ford Marko's are the Skyfall sunglasses...

There's a sunglass store in a big mall that's a few hours away from home, and they have a Tom Ford and Oliver's Peoples section right next to each other, and I believe I've seen the Marko's there before. They have them on the site for $410, but I know I could get them online for around $250. Might have to start saving up.

Here you go @Creasy47 , one source of info, but I think they've got the right ones... :-)

Great find, @Commander_Skyfall! I was checking out that link last night and it led me to a one hour plus search online, trying to find the Marko pair at the cheapest price, haha. I just might have to save up my next few paychecks for a pair. I really want to start getting more Bond-esque attire. I want to start with that Sunspel navy blue polo, it's only $98 online. My only worry is spending that kind of cash, receiving it, and not liking how it fits. Same with the sunglasses, spending a few hundred bucks on it and it doesn't feel right on my face.
  • Thought some of you chaps might find this Esquire article about Sean's Dr.No suit interesting..

Hi! As for the Riviera Polo you might want to measure both once and twice :). The Riviera Polo is (at elast in my opinion) very slim fit. I use to order the size small when ordering form Sunspel but when I did the same for the Riviera Polo it wasn´t just small, it was too small :). The fit of course depends on your body stature but be aware of the very slim fit!

+1 on that, you'll also find that that the sleeves are shorter than usual, they cover your shoulders ok but I find almost the whole of your biceps are exposed, it definitely helps the fit if you're reasonably V shaped.

Thank you both for the heads up. I still might give a small a try, just to see. How is the length of it in small? Seem to be up to standards with how a small polo would fit? I've just never liked my shirts being longer at the bottom.

I'll stick mine on later and take a photo for you, I'm 5'10" about 172lbs so should give you an idea.

Nice. I'm 5'11" and...no idea how much I weigh. Light, that's all I know. Stupid metabolism. Do let me know when it's up, and thank you.
  • Not the best photo I'm afraid @Creasy47 but you can see the shape. It's kind of tapered at the waist, mine is a Medium and certainly a size larger would of been fine.

From this point of view it looks just fine.

I know this is probably not the best thread for this but just take a look at what a friend sent me http://www.spicetag.com/prod_242_Fight-For-Bond-T-shirt_male I think it's just brilliant. I can distinguish Craig, Brosnan and Lazenby for sure but the rest I don't know.

That's brilliant Sandy, I reckon that's Rog in the white dinner jacket, Sean on his back on the floor and Dalts trying to strangle Rog, but I could be completely wrong!

I think you are right! Now that I look at it again. It's surely Moore in the white jacket.

Ha, at first (owing to the typing of 'Mr' as 'MR' in its heading), I thought this thread was going to be all about safari suits, open-necked shirts underneath beige jackets and banana yellow jumpsuits and sneakers and strange, silly leather helmet-hats in space. Imagine my disappointment then to discover its actual content. Ho-hum... ;)

Looks great, thank you for this. I think when I have the money saved up for some free time, I might just put it towards one of these. I've wanted that polo for years.

I would stay away from a size larger - this is exactly how this type of shirt should fit.

This reminded me of a great webpage, or possibly post on a webpage, of a guy who decided to revamp his wardrobe after CR came out. At first he was jealous of how much his girlfriend went on about how well Craig wore his clothes. But then he decided to do something about it and traded in his "frat boy gear" (oversized polo shirts, baggy cargo shorts, flip-flops, backwards baseball cap) for clothes more in line with CraigBond's casual look. Result - his girlfriend (and other girls) thought he looked incredibly hot. The one thing I really remember is how he said he never realized that most North American guys wear their clothes two sizes too big. He said he realized why women love the way European men dress and had some great before-and-after pics of his wardrobe.

Sadly, I couldn't find the webpage when I last looked for it - it was great inspiration for Bond fans who want to impress women a little more.

We've seen photo's of Craig wearing two different pair of sunglasses; do we know which of the two are featured in Skyfall?

@thelordflasheart, if you ever find that article, do let me know; sounds like a very interesting read. I noticed that around my college campus, not many people dress up, so I usually get many compliments for my attire. I've always been like this, and it's nice. I've never enjoyed having my clothes any size too big, as I've preferred them to be just the perfect length/fit. I guess I just like my clothes smaller than larger.

@Creasy47 - I tried to find the webpage for some guys I knew who needed, for lack of a better phrase, a fashion intervention. I tried a few times and couldn't find it. I'm guessing now that it was a very lengthy post (or series of posts) and not its own webpage.

What brought it about was one of these guys was at a party that I threw and the comments that two female friends of mine made. The first one said "It's a shame, you know. He's a nice guy but no woman will ever think of having sex with him because of the way he dresses." I thought that was really harsh, but then the second women asked me later "He really doesn't know that no women would ever go out with him in public, does he?". That put it in a bit more context.

To be fair, it wasn't just that the clothes these guys wore were way too big, it was also the style. This outfit that Connery wore was exactly the type of thing that they would wear:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2146743/Sean-Connery-enjoys-time-away-spotlight-runs-errands-New-York.html

The funny thing is, when I talk to young guys who dress like that they think that their clothes *do* fit properly! Hence that guy with the posts who said that most North American guys wear their clothes too big.

The good news is that two of the guys completely changed their style - and the third is coming around... ;-)

    Very good news ;)

It's pretty amazing how far your attire can get you with women. I've had quite a few extremely beautiful girls at my college comment me on my clothing; girls who I never would have thought would even notice my presence.

    Are these:

Not cheap but they do seem very well made, and a definite nod to Mr. Connery.

From what my female friends and former girlfriends have told me there are two things at play. The first is that they will find a guy who dresses well to be more attractive than one who doesn't. What's funny is how some guys get so angry about it - yet these same guys want or even insist that women should *always* dress "sexy". It's sad that they can't see the illogical nature of that.

The second thing is that if a guy is a jerk it doesn't matter how well he dresses or presents himself. Like anything else it's just one of many factors. But because so many men don't dress well doing so puts you ahead of a lot of guys out there. Just make sure that the insides are as nice as the outside ;-)

And @Commander_Skyfall - I think that Craig being in the shape that he's in does a lot more for him than the swim trunks, regardless of how nice they are. Mind you if he was wearing baggy camo-patterned board shorts it would really take away from his cool factor...
