The Hunger Games - 8/10. Great movie, well paced and not too obvious nor completely predicatable. Very well acted and the charactors are belivable on an emotional level. Great concept although plot not entirely original. Reminds me of a japanese movie called Battle Royale. I can't compare the movie version of Hunger Games to the novel as I have not read it but will now look to. I would recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't yet seen it.

Dark Shadows: 7/10. Burton really creates a sense of time and place. You really feel like you're in the '70s. And there's a lot of period-specific humor and a pitch-perfect soundtrack. But the story is really underdeveloped. Still, Eva Green is a goddess and owns this movie.

    The Avengers 10/10

When this film was first teased at the end of Iron Man in 2008, I wasn't too sure how they could realistically pull off doing a superhero team up movie, and give every hero their own space to breathe in the movie, as well as making it good...... i think what helped was giving each character their own film first, to establish their characters first - and in some cases, get the origins out of the way.... but still comes the daunting task of trying to fit all of them into the same movie, and not feel like certain characters are dominating over the others.... with Iron Man's popularity, I surely thought he would be the main character, and dominate the story..... so going into the movie, i was excited - but at the same time nervous that some characters like even Hawkeye or Black Widow would kind of just get shoved to the side...

    I was wrong..

This movie exceeded all the expectations I had - it balanced all the characters beautifully, and they all had terrific chemistry with one another - especially newcomer Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (replacing Edward Norton).. ideally, i would've liked to see Norton in the movie, but I understand why Marvel let him go... with that said, I thought Ruffalo did a terrific job - and The Hulk actually turned out to be an entertaining and funny character in the film, while still doing what he does best - raging out and smashing s*** up..... Being a native Clevelander, it was nice to see my city get the spotlight as a standin for the scenes in Germany, and some scenes for New York (as well as briefly for Russia) - this region of the US gets a bad wrap, but we have a beautiful downtown and surrounding areas, and it was nice to see it on the big screen (even if it was doubling for other locations lol)....

I give the director Joss Whedon a lot of props and credit, for making this happen..... not often in these big budget hero movies, does a director also do the writing - but he did, and he made it work beautifully on screen... for never helming a major big budget action film before, I think he did a marvelous job - to the degree that he looked like a seasoned pro... I hope Marvel isn't stupid, and they contract Whedon quickly to do the next one... that is, if he wants to do it lol...

and what about the song at the end done by Soundgarden? "Live To Rise".. a terrific track - and makes me wish he would come back and do another Bond theme lol :)

terrific film, already have seen it twice - and will probably check it out one more time before it leaves theaters.. (*keeping fingers crossed that our local drive-in does a double showing of "Dark Knight Rises" and "Avengers" - that would be epic lol*)

    Dark Shadows 7/10

A fun film overall. Got my $7 worth.
Solid performances by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter. Loved Eva Green as a blonde and as the main antagonist. She will always be Vesper to me though. A pleasant surprise to see Christopher Lee. The storyline pacing was good. Nice 70s soundtrack and comedy references. Depp adjusting to the 70s was equally funny and good overall. Nights in White Satin never sounded better in cinema stereo. Loved when Depp drank the hippies blood. Carter at the end opening her eyes on the waters floor hinted at a possible sequel.

Nights In White Satin always makes a good choice for use in a movie.... it was used excellently in "Casino" - and even in Zombie's "Halloween 2".... i find the only other tune that I think ranks as high up on my list as good song choices for films would be White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.

I wanted to do an Avengers review, but you perfectly summed up exactly what I wanted to say. Well, except for the Cleveland parts. I've never been there, and I'm certain it's a great city, but I can't comment on that yet.

Great film. Really funny, the jokes are spot on. Christopher Lee is in it too, which I wasn't expecting.

    The Avengers: 9/10

Good storyline, fine acting, great use of humor, and seems to not get boring. I must say I love Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Why? Because she's smoking in that body tight suit. But, Mark Ruffalo's portrayal of the Hulk is really good and better than Eric Bana or Ed Norton.

I've seen a few movies that I didn't review but I'll just talk about one of them while the others get ratings

    The Avengers: 9/10
    Men In Black 3: 8/10

    Ted: 9.9/10
Where do I begin? First of all I'm a huge Family Guy fan and it's always being quoted by me or one of my friends. But while the humor is similar, there is something more to Ted. I have not laughed this hard in a LONG time. It's a shame that The Hangover will still be loved by critics when this film is forgotten but that's a debate for another time. The character Ted is the greatest comedy creation in years. His lines are so well written and so witty that you pay attention to his every word. The film's pace is non stop until the end which dives into more serious territory. I don't think I've ever felt such a connection to a CGI character as I did for Ted. This is a film for people who want to have a fun time at the movies and have a new favorite film to quote. Go see it!

Many seem to think that same as you DD, I'm glad this is from the horse's mouth though. I think I'll now skip the new Ice Age and wait for the DVD, if that.

    'The Cabin in the Woods'

    5/5

Action-packed, creepy, highly unpredictable ending with a great twist. Very entertaining time at the cinema, and I saw it for only $2.

When will they make an Ice Age where they team up with the child they saved in the first film?! I can't be the only person with this idea!

@JWESTBROOK, news to me, as well. I saw the second one and just kind of stopped watching, had no idea they released a third. To me, all of the animated films of today seem to have too many sequels, simply for the fact that I don't follow them, so I don't notice the time in between each film.

Teds voice sounds like Peter Griffin (I know they're both Seth Macfarlane but he could've come up with a whole new voice).

This one I rate highest in the series, along with Meltdown.

    1) Ice Age: 3/5
    2) Ice Age 2 - Meltdown: 4/5
    3) Ice Age 3 - Dawn Of The Dinosaurs: 4/5
    4) Ice Age 4 - Continental Drift: 3/5

    and that X-mas special: 4/5

Yea but I'll give him credit, he mentions it in the movie
  • Prometheus

    7.5/10

Amazing visuals, probably some of the best acting I've seen from lead actors (esspecially Fassbender as David, brilliant) in a science fiction film, but the ending was incredibly frustrating in its "too cool to explain anything".
  • Megamind - fun but not in toy story class. 6/10

    Haywire - awesome. 8/10

Predators - had everything but ultimately failed - 5/10

    'The Watch' - 3/10

It gave me a couple of laughs, but it just didn't do it for me. Actors playing the same roles time and time again, and the laughs were incredibly few and far between. The only entertaining thing I truly received from it was the new trailer for 'Taken 2.'
