When has poster ever been indicative of a film’s quality? Never. Quite the opposite. Like wading through the crèche on here.

Agreed. Judging the poster on its own merit is one thing...

I darkened the image and made it a B&W. I would personally get this framed over the one released.

Ask yourselves how, if you're calling this a "poster" you are not seeing a poster?

This "poster" is a digital image for digital distribution. And that makes all the difference. It isn't really supposed to be a poster.

    Welcome to the 21st century.

Makes no difference, it still sucks

Even something that simple is a drastic improvement over the official image. Well done!

Here, I just put as much effort into this as EON did:SVjwkrH_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium
Fantastic when I take over the bond franchise I want all posters to be done like this by you

What I find peculiar is that Empire Design hasn't posted the poster anywhere themselves. Meanwhile, photographer Greg Williams calls this poster "My new poster for #NoTimeToDie" on Instagram. This makes me wonder if Empire Design hasn't had anything to do with this teaser.

    Very strange, isn’t it?

If it had been brilliant I wonder if there had been lots of folks saying how good a job Cary had done? ;)

I’d be interested if you could point to any posts which suggested it was indicative of the film’s quality. In the meantime we’re just talking about it on the level of it being a film poster.

EON seems determined as Hell to set my expectations low.

Same, but I still have a feeling that the film itself is going to be really good. It's weird. So far, I've had something to moan about for more or less everything they've officially announced. And the film itself is sort of the opposite of what I'd been hoping for on here for the last few years (I wanted a fresh start with a new Bond because SP wrapped things up nicely in my eyes, but then decided I would have been okay with a faithful YOLT adaptation, then I was happy with whatever Boyle/Hodge were doing because it's them, and now we're getting none of those options). But I dunno. I get the feeling that Craig is really determined to go out on a high, and that's why it's taken so long and the film/story has changed so much. So I do think it'll be a good one.

Yep. All signs indicate the film is going to be really bloody good.

Better that than to have your expectations super high and be severely disappointed (SPECTRE anyone?)

The NTTD poster actually reminds me a bit of the newest DVD cover line for the series.

If this were the final poster, then I'd be on board those who are appalled at this poster.
But it's not, it's a teaser poster. It doesn't have to be elaborate or reveal what the film will be like. It's, wait for it...teasing us that a new Bond film is on the way. Just Bond in a tux, stood near a wall in need of painting. The question is why is he in a tux? Why doesn't he have his gun? Where is he? What's he looking at? Damn if only I knew. Maybe I'll have to go see NTTD in April 2020 to find out.
Now I know there are some fan art poster out there, that are very, very good. And could be called more impressive than this. But this is what EON and co are teasing us with.
It's almost as if they want to hold everything back, and keep a few surprises for us till we see the finished film.
If EON read these pages they're thinking two things.
    1. Wow, we really didn't do a go enough job, that backfired.
    2. They ask for a trailer, images, song, poster...something for James Bond day. Anything will do to keep (some) of the fans happy. We give them a poster and they tear it apart for not being enough. What do we have to do?
Now I know the answer will be better, or more. But this is what we've got. Between now and then, I'm sure there will be a whole lot more to come. And if not, then the film is going to be one hell of a surprise to us all.

    Another idea for a poster

I was thinking since Bond threw his Walther PPK in the Thames at the end of SPECTRE I would have loved a teaser of a Walther washed up on a Jamaican Beach with a beautiful sunset behind it. Kind of like a message in a bottle from Bond's previous life, calling him back into service.

This is great. Photoshop Craig leaning against the car and you have yourself a classic Bond poster.

That is amazing. That’s exactly the sort of poster aesthetic I wish EON would embrace.

I think we all get that. No complaints on what a teaser poster is supposed to be.

Regarding the image itself - it still could have been done with an ounce of imagination and creativity, even if it is designed for digital distribution only.

Currently this image looks like its been knocked up in 10 seconds by a child who hasn't been taught how to use Photoshop properly yet.

With talk of ‘low expectations’, it’s implied.

For me, it is a surprisingly mediocre, uninspiring, just meh, middle of the road poster. But that doesn't alter my impression of the film from what I've seen. The film looks to be amazingly good. This is, after all, just a poster. Sorry it's not thrilling or exciting for most of us, but it's not something I'll keep pondering over either. The film, as others have pointed out, is a totally different thing. Thankfully. B-)
