    IIRC there were ball caps that had “Indy IV” inscribed for the last film.

    I wouldn't be too opposed to simply Indiana Jones just because this will probably be Ford's last film.

    I have considered your second clause and note the following: the first film had a title - Raiders of the Lost Ark - which did not include "Indiana Jones and the" so, if you want to come full circle, you could come up with a title...but not just his name. I get the idea that his name would be "the other missing portion" but, on balance, I think a title without his name would achieve it better. However, overall, I think it would serve better to have a title in the manner they've used since the first: Indiana Jones and the ...(something)...

    It’s odd that Lucas decided to have Indy’s name on the title for the sequels. Would be like if Cubby insisted that after DR. NO they had to title each sequel with Bond’s name.

    And I see this with adaptations of books as well. The sequel to THE HUNGER GAMES being titled THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE rather than the subtitle being the subtitle. It’s like studios don’t trust in audiences to follow sequels with unique names.

    The Indy titles are in line with the old time serials they mine. Or the pulp novels of that prior time.

    Yeah I don’t think it’s like calling a Bond film ‘James Bond and Moonraker’: it’s an intentional pulpy throwback which suits these movies in a way it wouldn’t Bond.

    The original idea was that they would all be Raiders movies, so the next one would be called Raiders of the Temple of Doom and so on. I guess they felt Indy as a character had caught the imagination enough.

    In the fall of 1981 I was a college freshman, rapping with new classmates about the coolest movies we’d seen lately, like Raiders of the Lost Ark. I predicted the sequel could only be Raiders of the Holy Grail, and I was basically right about that. But their reaction to my idea was, like, “The holy grail? You mean that crazy Monty Python thing?? Huh, that’s a weird idea for a mash-up, but… I like the way you think!” 🙄

    That'd be about the weakest and most uninspired title they could've come up with. Hopefully it's just a placeholder and we get something more fleshed out.

    Quite the shame on the 4th one. Cate Blanchett ! She was fabulous ! The anthill...an awful way to go appropriately included in an Indy film ! Unfortunately, the race leading to the anthill displayed one of the faultier aspects of the film - CGI, and poorly done, at that.

    That entire chase sequence is the perfect encapsulation of why I loathe the film and tend to avoid it in my series marathons.

    On second read it was actually The Last Crusade I missed in my faux title. I got the "Kingdom" in there for the fourth one. I actually can't believe I missed my favourite entry in the franchise!

    That is: of the age of consent, and that there was mutual consent, and that it was not rape, but that she was younger than Indy, who was a graduate student at the time or just out of school...What were the writers and producers thinking ??? The point that Indy was older than her and more mature than her could have been made just as well by her being younger, yet of age

    I would have to go back and look, but within the film itself, not earlier scripts or preproduction material, is it absolutely confirmed that they had sex? If not then I see it as a crush that Indy allowed to go to far. A romantic relationship doesn’t necessarily mean a sexual relationship. Even without physical intimacy, a young Marion would have been devastated.

    Yes, but there's quite a difference between Indy breaking hearts and Indy committing statutory rape.
