I’m one of those rare birds that actually likes TWINE. To me – on balance – it works better than TND (which I always find somewhat generic). Sure, there are some “dear God, what were they thinking” moments in TWINE – which stand out, especially upon repeated viewings, but I still think that its’ Brosnan’s most assured performance as Bond. And Sophie Marceau (and Robbie Coltrane) are treats. Taken as a whole, those elements make up (kind of, anyway) for Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones. Nothing personal Ms. Richards, but……

As for the top five moments of TWINE:

1.PTS. I always laugh at Brosnan as he straightens his tie – while under water 😊!
    2.The “Access Denied” scene.
    3.Renard’s Introduction.
4.The Casino scene – “this is a game I can’t play” (or something like that) as well as the X-Ray glasses.
    5.Q’s Goodbye

Always happy to see fellow TWINE defenders here :D

    4. M imprisoned
    5. Torture/Elektra's death

@Dwayne To be sure: Is "Renard's introduction" the moment with the hologram or the moment where he plays around with hot stones?
And which moment do you mean with "Renard shows off" @Thunderfinger ?

The PTS (especially the Bank scene) seems to be an obvious favourite.

Good that you mention the torture @jake24. Some probably don't like it because of Brosnan's famous "pain face"...but it is easily a stand-out moment of TWINE for me (Zukovsky's death included).

Zukovsky’s death, particularly him using the cane to free Bond, is a standout moment. I enjoy the irony in knowing that it was Bond who inadvertently saved himself by shooting Zukovsky in the knee years earlier.

I agree that this was a great moment. Zukovsky has always been a favourite amongst the Bond allies. He and Bond have their animosities but I always felt some mutual respect too. I like it that Zukovsky helps to save the day.
  • 1. The bunker

From Bond's arrival in Kazakhstan to the explosive escape from the bunker, this mid-film set piece perfectly captures what I love most about TWINE. It's got humor, suspense, action, Bond doing death-defying things in a stylish way—everything you look for in a good Bondian action sequence. I love the cheeky repartee between Bond and Christmas ("I don't know any doctor jokes," "I studied at Oxford"). I love the suspense as Bond descends into the bunker and discovers Renard and his men stealing the bomb. I love Bond's near execution of Renard and the standoff with the Russian army, the shootout and the grapple watch, racing through the sealing blast doors and narrowly escaping Renard's elevator bomb. And of course to top it all off, there's the greatest (well, one of the greatest) "Bond...James Bond" deliveries of all with Bond and Christmas's rapid ascent to the top of the silo.

    2. Banker's office in Bilbao

One of Brosnan's coolest scenes from start to finish. He takes out Lachaise's bodyguards with arresting efficiency, then breaks the fourth wall with one of Bond's coldest glares. The stealthy knifing of Lachaise and flight of Cucinotta's "Cigar Girl" immediately plunge the film in mystery, but the action continues briskly with Bond MacGyvering his way out the upper-story office with the window shade pull cord and the unwilling assistance of one of the felled guards. Arnold plays the Bond theme to the hilt as Bond abseils to safety. This briefest of intros would have been enough to start any Bond film off right, but of course the next entry on my top 5 would take things to another level entirely and cement TWINE's PTS as one of the series' greatest.

    3. The Thames chase

So many cool and novel ideas are packed into this one opening chase, beginning with the segue from Bilbao straight to MI6 and the briefing with M, sans titles. The idea of MI6 being attacked from within would become old hat over the next five films, but here the concept was new and exciting. The Thames chase also finds Bond attempting to operate a Q-boat that's still under development, and his fall onto the Millennium Dome sets up another series first: a significant injury that would accompany Bond throughout the rest of the film. And as @goldenswissroyale pointed out, blasting through a dockside restaurant, interrupting diners chowing on breadsticks with horn blaring, was a fun throwback to the silly asides of Moore-era chase sequences.

    4. Torture chair and death of Elektra

Apart from getting roughed up by thugs here and there, this is the first time we really get to see Bond tortured on film. Fleming no doubt would have applauded the scene's twisted blend of pain and pleasure: the villainess sadistically straddling the captured hero as a brass rod slowly crushes his spine. There truly is no way out for 007 this time, until Zukovsky shows up to trade his life for Bond's own. Apted states in the commentary that they waited on pins and needles to see if Bond's cold-blooded shooting of Elektra would pass the test audience as they had no alternative fate for the character. It's a damn good thing no one spoke out against it as it's one of the film's defining moments.

    5. Caviar factory

Simply one of the most purely fun action sequences of the series. It's funny to think of the scene this way—what with killer buzzsaws dangling from helicopters, the Rolls plunging into the Caspian, and Bond's BMW sawn in two—but there's almost a kind of artistry to the way the action flows here: the way explosions set off like timed fireworks behind Bond before he leaps from the walkway or how he pops up through a trapdoor, taking out one thug, only to swiftly gun down another, and all perfectly complimented by Arnold's rambunctious techno-powered music. Ultimately the Bond films are about having a good time, and this set piece delivers that much and then some in great spinning spades.

Other highlights (in addition to those I've pointed out earlier):

The look Bond gives when the parahawk goes over the cliff then opens its parachute and carries on (I remember the audience roaring in laughter in theaters at this one), and Bond swimming up the side of the sub then panicking as he waits for Christmas to let him back in.

Your enthusiasm and way to describe the scenes always gives me the feeling that I should watch the film as soon as possible and that I will (hopefully) feel the same delight as you. The bunker isn't a scene I would usually call a stand-out scene but your comment is very convincing. Great stuff @Some_Kind_Of_Hero :D
You mention a breaking of the fourth wall in the PTS, part 1. I've never realized that. Is this only your feeling or was this also discussed by other fans in other threads? Interesting.

And Bond's look when the parahawk opens the next parachute is definitely gold.

    1. Torture chair, death of Zukovsky and Elektra. Great emotional combo.
    2. The boat chase, especially because of the fun, the locations I visited (like the corner where the policemen were standing) and even more because of the perfect way to end the PTS (with Bond falling on the dome and grabbing sone wires).
    3. Bank scene
    4. The joke where R and the others discover Bond on the screen of their laptop and suddenly another body appears and it gets red. Great throwback to funny end jokes of the Moore era.
    5. Bond...James Bond (Great visuals with Christmas and a final explosion to end the bunker scene).
  • You mention a breaking of the fourth wall in the PTS, part 1. I've never realized that. Is this only your feeling or was this also discussed by other fans in other threads? Interesting.

Well, I probably shouldn't have said "fourth wall breaking" because I don't know that it was actually intended to break the fourth wall the way Lazenby smiling at the audience and saying "This never happened to the other fella" was meant to. I just mean the part where Brosnan looks directly at the camera. It was a cool stylistic choice, but I don't think it was actually intended as a way of breaking the fourth wall.

If I may comment late having missed the discussion, I do enjoy the Brozza films, and there's plenty that I like in TWINE. Off the top of my head, I think my top 5 would be something like this:
    1. Q boat chase, especially Bond saying hello to the parking wardens (something we'd all like to do if we had a Q boat lying around)
    2. The caviar factory attack with Bond's BMW sliced in two and Zukovsky quipping like a good 'un
    3. The Swiss banker scene, especially the leap from the window and the subsequent ironic nod to the pedestrians, something Brosnan does so well
    4. Bond meets Q and R, I don't mind R and it raises a smile, and with hindsight Q's final appearance always brings a tear to the eye
    5. X-ray specs - you all know I love a good gadget, and (as with Roger playing with the video camera watch in OP) Brosnan plays the naughty little schoolboy perfectly. So juvenile, so fun!

    1. Swiss banker scene: "I just want a name."
    2. pipeline rig hi-jinx: "Charles, can you get me out there?"
    3. caviar chaos - Valentin turns the lid nailed to the door: "Is nothing in this place straight?"
    4. tower of torture: "I never miss."
    5. Bond swims outside the submarine towards the hatch: "f..."

I expected this winner but not that obvious. The bank scene was always listed in the top 5 apart from one ranking. And the scene was ranked as the best TWINE moment very often. The boat chase is an uncontested number 2.
    1. Bank scene (PTS, part 1)
    2. Boat chase (PTS, part 2)
    ....huge gap...
    3 & 4: The bunker & Torture tower (especially "I never miss")
5&6: Casino scene & Caviar factory

Wait, Christmas time and fireworks? And the best thing I come up with is TWINE? Of course not! It's time for THE ultimate Bond/Christmas movie: OHMSS.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas with some time to relax (and maybe with a Bond movie;)

Can I cheat and say the entire film???

    1. Bond's rescue of Tracy at the beach/his fight with the thugs
    2. Bond and Draco's first interaction
    3. Bond's jump scare from Bunt
    4. The Bobsleigh Fight
    5. The Wedding Scene

With Dame Diana Rigg’s death earlier this year, watching OHMSS this Christmas is even more poignant than normal. As a result, I will need a bit more time to write this up!

This particular scene will be included, however…..you can bet your life on it!!!!

When we did AVTAK I struggled to think of 5 moments worth listing here. With OHMSS I'm struggling to narrow it down to just 5!
1, Bond dealing with Draco's thugs on the beach, great intro.
2, Bond slamming the door back on the guy following him then fighting them all...
    3, The casino scene.
4, Bond and Draco's first scene together.
5, Bond pulling up to Quarterdeck in the Aston.
5, The way our introduction to Piz Gloria is framed.
6, M scene when Bond 'resigns', probably Lazenby's best acting. OR
7, His acting in the scene with Telly Savalas when Bond's cover is blown. I like how threatening Blofeld seems here.
8, Helicopter flight towards Piz Gloria for the final assault.
9, The first time we see Blofeld, shot from above, good atmosphere.
I could go on and on but I won't.

1.The PTS (Lazenby’s slow reveal and the Beach Flight, “…This never happened to the other fella…”)
2.Title Sequence (Maurice Binder’s “time themed” titles and John Barry’s OHMSS theme)
3.The Casino Scene / Extended Introduction to Tracy
    a.Tracy losing 20,000 Francs and Bond’s “….my mind was elsewhere. please continue….”
b.Hotel Room flight between Bond and Che Che
c“…I’m not interested in your opinion of me….” / Bond’s look of admiration when he finds the 20,000 Francs (“…paid in full…”)
4.Bond and Draco (Draco states that Tracy needs help and well as giving us part of her backstory. I really like the way Barry interest part of the Bond theme in here: “…she needs a man….”)
    5.Bond’s Resignation (M takes Bond off the case/”…what did you expect..a knighthood….”)

6.Draco’s Birthday Party / and Bond and Tracy’s Courtship
    a. “….a good host always supplies his guests needs…and without obligation….”
    b. “We have all The Time In the World” (the decision to show Bond and Tracy looking into the store window and seeing the wedding ring is a really nice touch IMO)
    7.Gumbold’s Safe
8.Bond’s Journey to Piz Gloria – one of my favorite Barry musical cues
9.Bond Meets Blofeld (“…the great works have always puzzled conventional minds…”)
    10.Bond’s cover is Blown (“….Merry Christmas 007….”)

    11.Bond Escapes Piz Gloria
    12.Tracy rescues Bond
13.The Marriage Proposal (“…what really went on up there James….”) – I told you that this would be on the list
    14.Blofeld captures Tracy
    15.Bond and M discuss Options (“…this department owes her a debt…”)

16.Draco and Bond mount a rescue and Tracy buys time (“…Thy dawn, O Master of the World…”)
17.The Assault on Piz Gloria – Note that the Bond theme plays twice here, once for Tracy and then for Bond.
    18.The Bobsled Chase
19.The Wedding – Bond tossing his hat at Moneypenny adds an extra layer of weight here.
20.Tracy’s Death (“…but you have given me a wedding present, the best I could have. A Future….”)

Like I stated….pretty much the entire film.

    - Blofeld's henchmen fall down the cliff in the Piz Gloria ski chase
    - second ski chase
    - Draco's helicopters flying illegally through Swiss territory
    - Bond escapes, with the cable car approaching
    - car race
    I will stick to five

    - title sequence and Barry’s superb OHMSS theme
    - the chase though the stock car race sequence
    - Bond’s quip about the etymology of Irma Bunt’s name
    - Draco slapping Tracy. “Spare the rod and spoil the child, eh?”

    and my favourite

    - the build-up to the Piz Gloria attack. The Swiss Air Force jets buzzing Draco’s helicopters; Draco saying they are on a mercy flight; “check with Red Cross in Geneva”; all intercut with Blofeld wooing Tracy, and with Tracy’s poem. “Thy dawn, oh master of the world, thy dawn...”

I get goosebumps whenever I watch that bit. Goosebumps, every single time.

Gunbarrel with Introducing the new 007 whyle smoking in the car glas
Meeting Draco after Bond trows a knife
We Have All Time In World (Tracy and Bond alone walking and showing some streets)
Playboy (Bond entering a hotelroom, suite, safe and Bond reading a playboy.)
Bond locked in room from ski elevator
    Bobslee chase
    Bond with girls
Bond get help, who been kild and Blofeld told him that (I must think about that when in Spectre Q must escape from some henchman.)
Chicken. Bond escaped from his room.
    Bond meet tracy his sister

It is shame a lot times in quize on tv there almoost never talking about we have all time world from Armstrong but only that other song from him. He and John Barry lifted the movie with there music. I think it is Barry his best 60's Bond movie music and my second favotite and sometimes his best together with TLD, based on the moment.
