Yet another excuse for a John Terry bash fest. I've long said the guy was in just 2 scenes and did nothing to enhance or drag down the film. He was fine for what he did: brief Bond and set up his infiltration of Whitaker's base. Come on, people, you can do better, or should I say worst.

In the previous poll, I voted for John Moreno, but since this is changed I will nominate a write-in candidate, the guy I find the worst Leiter, one Cec Linder. In far more scenes, thus giving him more time to leave less of a favorable impression, unlike Terry. From the minute he shows up in Miami Beach with his full suit along with a hat the production of Caddyshack later gave to Ted Knight, he was bound to disappoint after Jack Lord's favorable Leiter.

It's laughable when Bond mentions "They got a lot closer to you in Jamaica, didn't they?" since he looks more like Bond's uncle than a contemporary. He's the classic company guy. Later he's more interested in getting back to eating KFC and back to the hotel because he's bushed as Bond is in real trouble. Some agent. He just doesn't seem to command any real respect or have any presence and can't even set up a line, "Where's your butler friend?"

I think that because GF is such an iconic film that Linder gets a pass. Not from me.
  • Yes, Linder was a disappointment after Jack Lord. Just about anybody would have been. I think Eon played it that way on purpose. After Lord used his successful turn as Leiter to push for a larger presence (and more $$$) in GF, I suspect the word went out from Harry & Cubby: "Leiter is a 2nd banana. Make sure he stays that way."

Perhaps Cec didn't do a good job, but... no, sorry, let me rephrase that, Cec did a very dissapointing job at Felix. Almost as if he'd had the instructions to give a lacklustre performance. But he does stay in the role.
I'm afraid I can't say that of John Terry. Obviously the writing is appaling as well: 'what are you trying to do Bond, start World War three?'. But still, this is his long-time friend walking in. There's absolutely no chemistry between Bond an Felix. None. He doesn't even try. He's just there saying lines that make not much sense, and even less the way he says them.

No warmth at all with Mr. Terry. Compare it to Hedison in the very next movie. Never acted with Dalton and the two seem like they've known each other. That's acting. A shame that LTK wasn't planned ahead of time. It would have been nice to see Hedison in LTD and then returning in LTK.

Norman Burton. If they wanted a big, clumsy and aged Felix Leiter, Jim Backus could have filled the role, and at least he would REALLY sound silly (while awesome: what a voice) =)) .

To be clear the academy is to consider the actor and his lack of acting skills. Not the way the character is written or even what the character has to do. Who among the nominees is the worst actor!”

I’m assuming that we are judging the actor’s performance in their Bond film role, and not that of their overall career.

On that count I’ll vote for John Moreno (FYEO), although Terry is close. David Yip and Soon Tek-Oh are ok and Burton’s performance as an “exasperated” Felix is actually one of DAF’s highlights.

John Terry. I’ve said this elsewhere, but he feels less like Bond’s CIA counterpart and more like his golfing buddy.

That's probably the powder blue windcheater doing that! :)

Why is everyone wearing jackets in that scene? They're in Tangier! :)

Thing is though, if it had been David Hedison you'd feel the difference. Some actors have a bit of presence and warmth even if they're given almost nothing to do. Terry doesn't.
Or Bernie Casey, in fact- he's way better than almost all Eon Felixes.

I mean, even Green Four is more warmly remembered from that film, and he doesn't even have a name! :)

I don't dislike the performances of any of the 5 nominees in this category so I'll cast a write-in vote for Joe Don Baker in his 2nd turn as Jack Wade in TND.

Norman Burton. John Terry comes in for a loT of stick, but he is positively bouyant, compared the the sleep inducing Burton. He (Burton) comes off more as an overworked under-paid civil servant, than Bonds opposite number in the C.I.A.

"Willard Whyte is about to be assassinated and looks whose teaching breast stroke lessons."

    "Where's Tiffany?"
"Do you mind if we find Blofeld first?"

I don't mind Burton's performance but it doesn't feel like Felix Leiter to me. I think Hedison is the best Leiter we've had. Maybe a future Bondie? Favourite Leiter performance?

But I digress. We are seeing a slow down in votes, I shall let the academy vote for a few more hours and then we shall jump back to Bondie territory!

Leiter should never be more fit than Bond.

I wonder if Norman Burton would've gotten the role of Leiter if Lazenby or John Gavin had played Bond instead in DAF?

I stride to the stage and feel the weight of the world come off my feathered shoulders. For we are finally officially announcing a winner for the worst actor in an ally support role. The Klebbie goes to...John Terry for The Living Daylights. Mr. Terry received 11 votes and no this is not a put up job!

The academy also cast their ballots for the following actors:
    • Norman Burton received 4 votes
    • John Moreno received 2 votes
    • Write in ballots were received for Cec Linder and Joe Don Baker

Lets turn back to the Bondie side of things, and lets get beautiful! Lets celebrate actresses who have graced the silver screen with our man Bond! The Bond series has a rich history of giving actresses their first BIG screen role. Sometimes it was an actress making her debut in a "Hollywood" picture. Sometimes it was a British actress making her first starring role. So lets just call this best newcomer actress. The nominees are:
    • Jane Seymour as Solitaire in Live and Let Die
    • Claudine Auger as Domino in Thunderball
    • Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana in From Russia with Love
    • Bernice Marlohe as Severine in Skyfall
    • Caterina Morino as Solange in Casino Royale

I must remind the academy that they are to consider the performance of the actress. How well does she act in the role? What chemistry does she have with her Leading Man? Their beauty can factor in but should not be the determining factor in your vote. My dear academy, who is worthy of a Bondie for best newcomer actress in a Bond film?

I'll throw in a vote for Berenice Marlohe. Just in one scene (the casino), she really nails the enigmatic femme fatale archetype.

Hard choice between 5 fine performances. I'll choose Daniela Bianchi for her huge impact.
I would have chosen Marlohe, who even dubbed herself in several languages and reeks of charisma, but I feel she's also a two-scene wonder and it was unfair to Bianchi, Auger and Seymour, who had main roles.

    Claudine Auger!

I actually like her so much I went on looking for other films she did. Found a good few fine giallo films that way.

Chalk up another vote for Daniela Bianchi
Very natural in the role, great chemistry with Sean Connery. One of the best Bond girls.
Claudine Auger and Bernice Marlohe make the honourable mentions list.

Claudine Auger is my favourite Bond girl, so I'd be remiss not to vote for her. These are all fine choices and I expect this one could go any way.

I think I'd have to go for Jane Seymour of those because she makes quite a decent impact in the film and she's really sympathetic, although I think both Bernice Marlohe and Caterina Morino do really good work.
It's hard to even tell if Bianchi or Auger give a good performance because half of it is Barbara Jefford and Nikki van der Zyl! :)
