Bond has resigned. Chilling in Jamaica.

Nomi is the new 007. Action in Cuba, etc.

Bond visit M and M wants Bond back in active service. Bond agree and get's his code number back.

Nomi now a double O something else

007 and Nomi goes after Safin on his island.

This is a likely scenario. I still can't fathom a 007 film in which James Bond is not 007. That is the brand. LOL

He resigned at the beginning of LTK but the poster still has a big 007 on it; it’s just his brand.
Even if M doesn’t have him down in a file as 007, he’s still James Bond 007.

"Black female agent loses a code number she held for two years, to a 50 year old white man who comes back to work after five years of retirement."

That's practically a field day for the media and internet warriors. I doubt EON are that short-sighted.

Let's see first if Nomi is indeed 007, which seems likely.

Something that was easy to identify: Moneypenny's jug, as seen in her office, on the side table next to agent 007, Nomi.

Cary Fukunaga has stated that he liked the aesthetics of YOLT, and since we see a lot of stainless steel in the YOLT sets, perhaps this jug - designed in 1967 - is a little nod to that film.

It'd be an extremely ballsy move either way as there are so many people on both sides.

Also didn't Barbara mention that James Bond will never be a woman earlier last year? idk about the 007 number but unless they are going ahead with the Nomi spinoff then I dont think it'll be Craig Bond passing the torch onto Nomi unless they plan to have a Marvel-style spinoff for Nomi.

The Dark Knight Rises ended with Batman passing the torch to John Blake, but he never got a spin-off (though there was demand for it but Nolan was adamant about not coming back to the Batman well) 😏 point being, whatever works for the story of the film and the overall arc of the tenure...

BBFC has a one minute trailer yet to be classified which is why it is probably shown as U at the moment. I'm guessing this is the trailer people are saying is coming soon.

Does anyone have any idea what the (Trl U) means after the title of the film? The first trailer had a (Trl H) after it.

I believe it's been rated for quite some time, since the start of the year at least - most likely a 1 min version of the initial Dec 2019 trailer (which I know is playing in some places). Not the new trailer that's expected soon.

And the reason why it's rated U - that is indeed its rating - it's perfectly normal for trailers to be specially cut to be lower rated than the main film itself - so it can play with more films in cinemas. There is also a Trailer-PG there (a PG cutdown). Those two are labels specifically connected to their ratings (indicating they are specially-made edits to achieve said rating). But usually Universal labels their trailers sequentially by letters - so the first Dec 2019 trailer was Trailer A, Trailer B we don't know if it exists but Trailer C is a 1 minute version that some countries' cinemas got...the Sept 2020 trailer is Trailer H, and there's a shortened version of that as well that's Trailer I.

Thanks. Good explanation. I'm guessing the new 1min trailer will just be a re-cut of scenes we've seen in other trailers.

Yeah, although I like the look of what we’ve seen of Nomi so far I can’t imagine a spin-off with her, because she’d just be doing Bond things in a Bond world, driving Astons, wearing Omegas, getting gadgets from Q and defeating supervillains, so you may as well just make a Bond movie.

There’s no way the film is gonna end with him back at MI6 imo… and the call sheets kinda confirmed it.

    Minor BTS-gossip:
EON hired a british model agency to source black models working as extras in the jamaican nightclub scenes (shot at The Richard Attenborough Stage, Pinewood). And on top of that, on set it turns out that Lashana's hands was not that good looking (ugly basically) so they had to use a model from the agency for the close-up doing something important with her hands. The same model also doubled for Lashana in full tactical outfit in other unknown scenes.

I think the way they'll work with it is that it won't be made a big deal. It will not be an integral part of the film. Will James make a comment about it? I doubt it... Will he be internally bothered about it? Perhaps. I just don't think beyond the first introduction that it'll be a big song and dance... It's going to be more the focus on whether she is a capable 00 or whatnot.

Personally do I think it's a bit of a silly decision? Yes. But my thoughts really don't matter about it lol. It also makes sense given the narrative storyline that they've gone for over five self contained movies. It's certainly not going to stop me from watching the movie and I think that's where Nomi's involvement ends. I was more worried that they may try to make JB look stupid through dialogue and that fear was relieved as I think it was DC who said in an interview recently that it was important that they touched up the dialogue but not at the expense of James. Believe me, that would have rubbed me up the wrong way a lot more.

I think if they do make a big deal out of 007 then they will have gone about it wrong as it shouldn't be important nor the focal point of the movie. Literally the only one's that seem to be bothered are 'us' or the rags. Beyond it being one line used by M I don't see it as being anything important.

my feeling is that Nomi sacrifices herself to stop Safin's plot about the 2 hour mark and for the rest of the film Bond is back as 007 , out for revenge for the female 007 , and Johnny Marr has said he plays the Bond theme right at the end of the film and Fukanaga has said " James Bond will return " is on the end of the credits , for me this indicates status quo by the end of the film

No man it’s well known - even from set photos taken in Italy - it won’t go that way.

Weird thing is I read something the other day saying they shot the nightclub scenes in Jamaica- they had to turn the aircon off because it was so noisy and everyone was sweating. I did think it seemed odd they would shoot them there as it looks like something you can do in London. Mind you, didn’t that Boom Shot Dis video have some club stuff in? Maybe they shot some scenes in both places.

A lot of wishful thinking going on here…

If Nomi is indeed 007, she isn’t gonna be losing that title or giving it back. It makes no sense at all. As others have mentioned in the current climate of movie making, and just in the context of realism within the world of the movie, putting in the effort to make Nomi the new 007 after Bond’s retirement to then give it back to him, would be incredibly stupid.

And do we really think after five films, Craig’s James Bond gives a rats ass about the 007 code name? Again, it doesn’t have the same meaning within the context of the movie.

Nomi also won’t be getting her own spin-off, she’ll just be the 007 within this continuity, before the whole things rebooted with Bond 26 in whatever context.

    Agreed.

But I don’t understand the if. She is, it’s confirmed since almost a year.

The ifs just there as I know there’s been some recent doubts and confusion around the whole thing.

Ah okay I didn’t even know about that book. Anyway I don’t understand why they kept this Nomi is 007 a secret in the English trailer. It looks like they kinda feared some backfire…

I really don't think that 007 will be permanently handed off, IMO.

I think one of two things will happen:

    - the designation will be handed back to him during the middle London scene. During his discussion with M, he decides to come back to MI6 and take the 007 name back, and at the end where he stays at the lair to fight Safin while he's being bombed, he hands the 007 name back and the story ends ambiguously as to who actually gets the 007 designation.

    - Nomi remains as the 'official' 007, and there is contention to the codename through the entire movie. At the end where Bond stays at the lair to fight, there is some sort of dialogue where Bond and Nomi discuss the designation and the history behind it, a nod to all of the meaning and symbolism behind it, and she thus decides of her own volition to surrender it to him, deciding she is not meant to follow the path of it - perhaps for something without the stigma of the 007 name, to carve out her own legacy. She escapes with Madeleine and Mathilde as 003, and Bond's own fate is ambiguous.

All in all, I think Nomi's tenure as '007' will be temporary for NTTD, with some sort of ambiguous ending as to keep fans from all sides satisfied to some degree.

I don’t think they will make a big deal with Nomi being 007 since Bond voluntary resigned. He comes back only because the mission is deeply personal to him. Then, Nomi is 007 from the beginning, as the international trailer confirmed. He learns she’s 007 during their confrontation at his place in Jamaica.

I do think it'll be a little bit underwhelming if Bond doesn't finish as 007.
Craig is the only Bond we've seen earn his 00 status and for a film seemingly obsessed with tieing up loose story threads from Casino, it'll be odd not to see him end his tenure as James Bond 007

NTTD doesn't strike me as being a 'comeback' story (in the end) even though the trailers sell it that way a bit.

I think the simplest explanation is likeliest. Bond retired, the 007 code number is available, it's now assigned to Nomi, that's a good running source of tension and comic relief throughout the film, and it's still assigned to her when the film's over and Bond's fate is...well, who knows?

    Correct.
It may be the other way around: Bond stays behind, and Nomi rescues everyone and everything.
(And in the last scene they show us, that Bond is still alive - or they don't show it and leave it to our imagination if he survied or not.)

    Yes exactly.

Regarding Bond’s fate, even tho thanks to Fukunaga we know the film will end with the “JB will return” card, there are just two possible outcomes imo. So putting together set pics, call sheets leaks, the quote from his German voice that doesn’t know how the film ends and some speculation from my part:
    1. He’s presumed dead and we are left wondering if he’s still alive or not;
    2. He’s presumed dead but in the end when Madeleine comes back to Matera driving his V8 (conveniently left at her cabin in Norway before the wood chase with the Toyota suv) with Mathilde on her side he’s surprisingly there waiting for them, in front of the same honeymoon hotel were they spent that romantic night 5 years before. Or perhaps Swann and Mathilde arrive in Matera and they see his DB5 parked in front of the hotel, realizing he’s still alive and then boom the 007 theme kicks off… black screen… JB will return!

The latter is the cooler for me.

Yeah. The latter one is really cool.
But they should put the "James Bond will return" at the beginning of the end credits, not at the end, like they did for the last films.
