Interesting. What have you been studying, @MaxCasino?

I'm getting a general Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies Leadership. I'm also getting a minor in Radio-TV-Film, it's one big combo. I also have an Associate's Degree in Arts and Sciences, were I did a lot of Theater work.

I made that while waiting for my InDesign class to start. I'm a bad student. And I played Live and Let Die and Freebird. REALLY not supposed to do that. But the trick is not getting caught.

Yup, that's me as well. CC 2018 though. I was told not to upgrade to 2019 by the school though, as apparently it's very very glitchy.

Not that long ago that I read my Bond books last, so will prioritize other reading in the near future, but look forward to your write-ups.

I've already dug into CR a little bit, couldn't help myself. I'll shelve it until Saturday, because at this rate I'll probably finish it before.

It's been a struggle not to jump in early.

Yeah I've not been able to restrain myself very well. I finished up a book on Monday so I read a few pages on Tuesday and a good bit yesterday before finally stopping. I'm sure I'll manage to have it done by the weekend either way.

Likewise. But who knows, I may get some Fleming in in the lead up to B25. I'll shoot in and out.

The CR graphic novel arrived from Amazon a couple of days ago. I'll definitely be reading that over the weekend, and might even manage some sort of side by side comparison!

I listened to Dan Stevens read me a few chapters last night. Fun fact: Bond smokes 70 cigarettes a day.

Dan Stevens had not read CR before his audiobook reading.

Anybody else having trouble not picturing Lois Maxwell as Moneypenny? It's also curious to note that M's office has double doors at the entrance.

Can anybody explain this paragraph on page 18 for me?

Later, a triumphant Head of S. said to his Number Two: ‘We nearly cooked ourselves with that last paragraph. He said it was subversion and blackmail. He got pretty sharp about it. Anyway, he approves.

    What does "cooked ourselves" mean?

And a bit later, why does Mathis wish the Muntzes to be in agony? I never understood this section, to be honest.

For those curious, this is Bond's Bentley:

Any French people in the club who would be willing to fully translate ‘Mais n’enculons pas des mouches'?

Never pictured her as Moneypenny, but it s impossible not to picture Bernard Lee as M.

The Muntzes have wired Bond's room so they can listen in to his conversation through headphones in their room above. Mathis plans to deafen them with a blast of radio static, and serve them right!

I'm not French but I'm going to take an educated guess. My mum warned me once never to say 'cul', as in 'cul-de-sac', in France, because it was rude. In turn, my dad always referred to a cul-de-sac as a 'bag bum'.

'Mouche' is a fly, so I would suggest "let's not bugger flies". Sound advice.

Do the Muntzes work for SMERSH?

I've always surmised they're SMERSH operatives, or at least someone paid off by them to avoid any further connection to the organization (much like the airheads they hire to try and kill Bond with the bombs in the street).

EDIT: I'm certain of it now - forgot about the tidbit during Bond's torture where Le Chiffre mentions "your room was searched by four of my people," and Bond figures the Muntzes had a hand in it.

I'm not French but I know that phrase.

It's actually a crude phrase meaning let's not split hairs.

In this case, let's not f--- flies, I believe. (Now I realize @Agent_99 approximated that, I was working off my phone earlier.)

And I'll self-correct yet again, as I was right the first time (there's quite a few minor details I've forgotten about in CR): as Bond wakes up in the hospital post-torture and Mathis goes over the details of the operation with him, he notes that the Muntzes were indeed small fry hired for this instance and they'll get a few years in prison, at least.

I'm almost done already, some 30-odd pages left. Think I'll set it aside and read through a different book for a day or two, give everyone a bit more time to catch up and finish.
