@Birdleson, I'd say they were much more competent in QoS than they were in SF, though. I can forgive the incompetence in QoS because this was a major unveiling of a huge organization that they knew absolutely nothing about, whereas in SF they were up against an ex-agent/hacker and an assassin, and absolutely nobody on MI6's side managed to do much properly.

I enjoyed "QUANTUM OF SOLACE" very much, despite the rushed pacing in the film's first half. I despise "SKYFALL" for its major plot holes and sexism.
What sexism are we referring to in SF? Is there any more than in the other Bond films? Maybe I'm missing something.

For all the well discussed flaws I find QOS a more entertaining engaging film.

Something I never felt from my first viewing of SF. In fact I walked out of the first showing with a sense of crushing disappointment after the anticipation and the 'best bond ever' hype. ALL the key Mi6 characters and their ineptitude really really get to me. Due to the frustration I feel with the characters I should really be rooting for I have only been able to watch SF 3 times. On the other hand, QOS dozens.

How I dread SP could be spoiled with poor writing/plot too despite everything up until now pointing to it being superb during filming and picture/trailer glimpses.

You have made a very good point.

If I would judge the Bond movies for re-watchability QOS would fare much better than SF that's for sure.
To re-watch SF can be a drag. When QOS is thrilling from start to finish.

In fact QOS was one of my favourite movies in 2008, absolutely Top 5 material for that year.

The problem for ranking QOS is I have to look at QOS as a Bond movie because it is one and not just another action loaded flick.
    Then SF wins, definitely.
Because QOS is hardly a Bond movie. No iconic Bond moments whatsoever which is unforgivable and style wise they went so over the top with the editing that there is nothing Bondesque left. Well, almost, the opera sequence is quite good. But that's one scene.

Skyfall is filled with Bond moments and while it has a lot of glaring plot holes, it does have the best cinematography ever and is the best looking Bond movie.

    I agree,
Lea said in an interview something along the lines of SP being of the same mood or vein of SF , that really affected me

If SP follows the vibe of SF more power to it, it's my no. 2 and it will be worth it just to irritate the hell of of all those that created umpteen threads bitching about it.

Looking forward to seeing the usual suspects and some of the new guard leaving posts of outrage. Sorry but some of you need to find another film series to like if you have such a problem with the current direction.

I love Quantum Of Solace more.
Love the fact that each location has music that kind of reflects the country.
It just has a nice exotic vibe to it.

The car chase is still one of the best car chases of all time, the foot chase is badass and intense, you got the epic villain hideout too. Everything about the movie is amazing. Sure it doesn't feel like a classic Bond film like Casino Royale or Spectre but to me Skyfall just felt incredibly bland....

I enjoyed watching QoS again more than SF during my recent Bondathon. The pacing is much better and there are new things to discover on each rewatch (probably because one couldn't make it all out on earlier viewings......).

SF is fun to see again too, but it's much more traditional with a lot of exposition, so everything is already clear......one just watches it again and sees what one has seen before.

I hope SP borrows more from CR/QoS than it does from SF personally, especially with respect to DC (who I much preferred in the first two outings because he had a harder edge to him). Looking forward to it, despite crappy song and smack talk coming out of DC's mouth in interviews.

I'm confident this will be the best Bond of this Century. I see Mendes tying up all the stuff from CR to SF in a big pretty bow for our Christmas present! If my lookalike Newman can just incorporate the Bond theme a whole lot more, I'll be a very happy camper.

As I've said elsewhere, it looks like those action scenes were beautifully conceived, just shot and edited by an indefensible imbecile.

I can't watch QoS. I wish I could. I tried again this last weekend, but couldn't make it through the PTS. QoS is, for me, a prime example of a film that is completely ruined by the editing. I find those action scenes (the Garda and Siena scenes in particular) literally painful to watch. The cuts are far too quick for me and the shots are fairly mis-matched. Both the Garda and Siena scenes should have been absolutely stunning.

I find it interesting that the Tosca scene is, for me, an example of how editing can be used to magnificent effect.

I suspect the Editor on QoS is a highly-talented filmaker, but just wasn't well-suited to action scenes at the time.

It's difficult to like a movie that you find physically painful to watch. I thought Skyfall was great.

I've felt shivers from films, but that's not pain... where exactly is movie-induced pain located in a body?

No iconic Bond moments in QoS? Really? I felt that in spirit it was the closest we'd had to the early Bond movies for a very long time.

It's been said many times before, but the Tosca scene is one of the best in a Bond movie for years.

And there's plenty more to like apart from that.

It always reminds me of LTK. On first watch it seems to be a very different Bond movie, and it is, but the more you watch it the more you realise that it still contains a lot of the essence of Bond. It's Bond updated and with a twist - I personally prefer this approach to films that nod and wink and point their way through Bond history and cliche.

The fight with Slade is one of the best in the franchise. I'd say both the Tosca and interrogation of Mr. White scenes are, if not quite iconic, memorable and well-regarded on here.

The fight started out great but got out of hand by the end with CGI and all.
    Less would have been more!

    QoS... parts I love:
1- Sienna scenes and fight are awesome, even with CGI, crap editing; Slade fight is too bloody and graphic IMO
2 -Tosca scene... I thought it was edited pretentiously, the fight inter-cut with the Opera, undermining suspense... but I've grown to love the score that sets it all up, so it's reshaped my views on the whole sequence
3- Talamone (great score) and the plane scene... in the theaters, I disliked these sleep inducing scenes, and while I feel they could be better, they at least give you the sense of Bond's loss and how it's haunting him
4 - The Greene Party, good, in spite of annoyingly lame Fields
5 - Plane sequence... I hated this when it came out, but over time and re-watches it gets much better and love the shot (CGI and all) with plane making its final ascent.
6 - The Grand Hotel scene... like the dialogue, dead Fields and the rest
7 - Like Leiter throughout the whole movie
8 - Final scene in Russia, awesome and wish the whole movie was like this scene and followed this plot line being a direct link to Vesper
    9 - Crawl, End Crawl

    Skyfall... parts I love:
Um... I like the movie in it's totality and many parts, but I can't say I love parts to the point of 'I can't wait for that scene,' etc. So, like:
1- Istanbul, good, but wish it stayed with Bond and not transferred over to Moneypenny/M's scene
2 - Title sequence, though I find the song a bit depressing
3- MI-6 underground, Bond rehabbing and psychologist's bit
4- Shanghai, though very, very slow paced, it is cool looking
5- London, Silva escape, Underground, Bond running to Tennyson, etc.
6- Rooftop and new M, "with pleasure,' end scene

Skyfall's a thoughtful film and beautiful to look at, but it just doesn't thrill me like it did when it came out.

LALD will climb up considerably in my final ranking for 2015, can't believe I had it at No 21 all those years :(

QOS may climb up as well.

The car chase at the beginning of QoS is thrilling along with the score alongside it. Bonds unmatching suit is annoying though! Where's the waistcoat from an hour ago gone????

If that annoys you, don't bother counting the bottles of beer in the refrigerator before and after Odd Job knocks Bond unconscious. Or thinking about the ever changing color of Bond's goggles in THUNDERBALL. Continuity errors abound in movies, we just watch these ones so frequently that they become obvious. To me, that stuff is minor. And, of course, why the Hell Bond and Blofeld have such a hard time remembering each other.

Surely Oddjob just helped himself to a few beers. Thirsty work painting someone gold.

I think everyone, myself included, had major issues with the editing! But for me, the more times you watch QoS the less bothersome the cutting is! And the car chase is certainly one ,if not THE, best car chases they've ever staged. its inventive and thrilling. A lot of people were annoyed that Dan Bradley was hired for the second unit, because of his assosciation with the Bourne movies, but I think he is a very creative action director, and I certainly rank him above the over- rated Vic Armstrong!
