Good on you for putting Tim's performance in TLD first.

Incidentally, a very odd choice for last place, I thought Craig's acting in QOS was one of the few good things about the movie.

You might not like QoS (and a lot of fans don't) but you can't fault Craig's performance in it.

To put his performance last is just absurd.

I have done this last year, since then some views of mine have changed.

Here is my updated list strictly judging Bond performance:

    1 TB - Connery
    2 GF - Connery
    3 FRWL - Connery
    4 SP - Craig
    5 TLD - Dalton
    6 TSWLM - Moore
    7 TND - Brosnan
    8 DAD - Brosnan
    9 OHMSS - Lazenby
    10 QOS - Craig
    11 LTK - Dalton
    12 LALD - Moore
    13 TMWTGG - Moore
    14 YOLT - Connery
    15 DN - Connery
I really consider those 15 performances very good, not much to complain about.

    16 GE - Brosnan
    17 CR - Craig
    18 FYEO - Moore
    19 OP - Moore
    20 MR - Moore
Still very good performances, GE and CR show some insecurities of both actors. Moore plays more or less just himself in those three.

    21 TWINE
    22 SF
    23 AVTAK
    24 DAF
Never cared much for those four performances. Dreary, boring, caricature, parody.

Well I just don't like him there. Maybe I don't even mind his acting abilities so very much. It is more how he has to act, how the character is written. So one can blame the director or the script rather than the actor himself. But I personally just dislike the Bond character in QoS. I don't really like any of the dialouge scenes, I find Bond to be extremely unprofessional and one-dimensional. I personally prefer the Bond characters who show more than just one dimension. The scene when he tosses Matthis in the trash is probably my least favorite scene in all of Bond.

Actually I think it is very difficult to distinguish between Bond character and Bond performance. You just cannot like a Bond performance if you don't like a specific Bond character.

I can't fault Craig's performance in it. I can imagine the Bond (character) in Fleming's books tossing Matthis in the trash in order to continue the mission/ personal vendetta.

I remember coming out of QoS the first time I saw it thinking it was a big let down (compared to the overall brilliance of CR), but that Daniel Craig had solidified his position as Bond, and we were lucky to have him in the role, because he damn near carried that film.

Since then, like many, I have warmed to the film, as I have warmed to LTK. It is still deeply flawed in my view, but has a lot of redeeming qualities as well, chief among them Daniel Craig himself.

I don't have the same view of his performance in SP though. I much preferred his raw, edgy take in QoS. Visceral and dangerous. Lethal. Reminds me so much of McQueen.

Craig in QOS is my No 10 Bond performance. How can it not be in the Top 10??
  • Craig's Bond in QoS was still the same Bond as in CR. Since then, he hasn't played that Bond anymore - certainly not in SP.

In QOS, Craig adds something that is sorely missing from his other performances: Bond's snobbery.

Interesting thread. I'm surprised how highly Dalton's performance in LTK is ranked. I thought it was bloody awful. Especially coming after his superb turn in TLD.

In a lot of LTK's scenes you can see his acting. it's not natural at all. Especially the scene where he finds Leiter and Della in the house. He overdoes it to the point where the scene has no power whatsoever. Even his 'farewell to arms' joke is badly overdone.

Brown does give the better performance in that scene I feel.

Also, look at the way he later reaches for his gun inside his jacket when the Ninja attacks him.

Exactly right, bondjames. Craig's Bond in QoS was mean, surly and nasty, with a real edge to him. Just how I like my James Bond to be!

That scene in the lift was just brutally good! Nicked by Marvel for Captain America The Winter Soldier!

One of the main reasons I really love QoS is Craig's performance. It's the Bond film I watch the most when in the mood for 007.

That was a great scene no doubt @LeonardPine. I think they both nicked it from Die Hard 3.

this will be hard for me to rank all but I think Connery killed it in his first three and those are my favorites and I will go Dr No for the best. So original and so great after that it was just chasing.

Against popular opinion I will back you up here @GBF I hate the dumpster scene as well. Mathis's death and his general appearance in QOS is a farce. His death is just written so so badly.

You can search on google and type "MI6 Community:" (without quotes) in front of the searched item. That normally throws out the proper thread.

I think perhaps it could help if we had more detailed and specific 'categorization' of existing threads in order to make it easier to go through and find relevant ones.

What makes you put YOLT last? It's not Connery at his best, but I think there are flashes of great form in it.

That is surprising. I have it 10 or 11. It's not as great as its predecessors, but such a wild ride.

Connery's YOLT performance is maligned way out of proportion...
