There are so many reasons as to why Craig could have pulled out. I'm not an expert in Hollywood convention, but from a Bond fan perspective - if it means he can spend more time on B24 preproduction, then I don't see what the issue is.

When Sony/MGM reached their bankruptcy deal in the midst of QOS, I thought it was legally agreed that MGM would release a Bond film every 2 years from 2012 to keep up its revenue? I'd love to know what happened with that!
