Can't say I've ever noticed the boat motif, but then I'm not overly familiar with the newer films yet.

Well I never connected a boat with only their writing. Bond is often on some kind of a boat, in any Bond film. Commander Bond, after all. And rescue craft, and rafts, and well every kind of boat. Let's see, which Bond film did not have any kind of boat in it? I don't know off hand. MR had the bondola even. And DAF had the hovercraft in Amsterdam.

Okay, with John Logan, a wild guess: maybe there will also be a mention, or a glimpse, of a rat. Standing or not. ;)

It's stretching it a bit far to suggest that the use of boats in the W&P's scripts were an in joke. I'm not aware of any boats in DAD unless you count the Navy Frigate that Bond escapes from early on! You might as well have said all three Lewis Gilbert films featured cars!

An in joke would be far more in line with the startled birds that appeared in all five John Glen films. His admittance that this was influenced by Hitchcock's "blink and you'll miss it" cameos in his films.

When Jinx make a dive to escape on Cuba (In Spain!).

And Bond is on a hovercraft fighting in the PTS in DAD.

I'm mildly curious now. Is there any kind of boat in AVTAK?

In the beginning dear Saint, there is a chase on the water there. :)

AVTAK anyone? I cannot remember any.

Sorry the boat thing is tenuous at best.

P&W's scripts will always be remembered for making the mission personal to Bond.

TWINE - Bond falls for Elektra only to discover she's the villain
DAD - Bond is tortured and when released wants to find the person who betrayed him
CR - Bond's first mission and he falls in love with Vesper
QOS - Bond is angry and wants revenge/closure
SF - Bond is mortally wounded and has get his mojo back

IF anything the latter 3 Craig films give Bond a much more interesting psychology, but I think that aspect of the films have less to do P&W and more to do with Paul Haggis and John Logan. P&W are always credited with coming up with the story beats with the more prestige writers doing the heavy lifting.

The wedding boat on the Seine, plus the speedboat Mayday escapes in thanks to Zorin.

Iceberg Submarine - not technically a boat.

There we are then. I think Bond has a boat or is on a boat or a not too minor character is on a boat in every Bond film.

Back to it being personal for Bond, they reared up again nicely in GE.
"For England, James?" "No, for me." And onward ...

Interesting find, @MBalje! Especially Cigar Girl's boat being the exact same as the one Jinx uses to escape.

**Sign**. I beg to differ. I think JL's trademark will be the complete transformation of Bond into a comic book hero, far remote from Fleming.

Whyle since Casino Royake P&W at historie (History) in to the movies. (and some people get it with Qos and others mabey with Spectre.)

A whyle a go i discover the links that be made with countries started with Skyfall (The neighbours), but also in Spectre (the believers). I am curious or the links that i made, are done by john logan.

In Spectre there be two rats, four mouses (Include Bond and M), three cats and scary wolf. What is left is a rat (cat), two mouses (Bond and M) and snake (Madeline).

In SF we get Hans en Grietje (Breadcrumb/searhlight), around Spectre i read something around Vrouw holle thing. But i can't remember what be writte. The only thing i remember from frauw holle story is ''another world thing'' ( Death/Hell what be predict in Skyfall maintitle) and will return with a difrent result.

My expections for next two: rattenvanger van hamelen (Rat-Catcher of Hamelin) and repelsteelje (Rumpelstiltskin/You Know MY Name!). I think this match with thirth person view in QOS and You Know my name with CR and visual coldblood lyric of You Know My Name in SF. Big quistion is who will be second Rat-Catcher. Back to earth.

People like it to believe in ferytales. Trademark of John Logan: Using ferytales to tell a bigger story. If John Logan have worked on QOS it possible have been the girl with red cape (Roodkapje). Found somebody eles in grantmothers bed is it Felix.

I think Logan has left a big enough mark. Really don't care to remember any more than that.

    Agreed.

It might be why I think SF is the better movie. P&W (and Peter Morgan?) supplied a good basis for SF, while the work flow didn't work well when reversed for SP.

I know Logan has done some great work but I just watched a film that he scripted that had to be one of the most tedious, uninvolving films that I've ever seen It was Genius, with Colin Firth and Jude Law. It was a chore to get through and never did I care about the characters.

Logan does go heavy on Oedipian stuff as well. Not that it cannot work with Bond mind you but it is heavy.
