Heh, doesn't surprise me. No Hollywood actor/actress can ever keep a spouse for any amount of time. They don't care, to them it's just the next chapter of life. Whatever, they can have fun with infinite heartbreaks.

I've seen plenty of his films, I would say Collateral was one of his better roles, I'm not saying he's a terrible actor far from it but does have a tendency to play himself, his best work his behind him and that role in Tropic Thunder was utter rubbish, look it's Tom Cruise in a fat suit being obnoxious and swearing a lot, so what, I can't believe how people thought this was some kind of huge highlight and Cruise being diverse and showing his sense of humour.

He's a great star but rarely does he stretch himself, he did have the more difficult role in Rain Man and was the stand out of that film and Born on the 4th July was impressive but now he just signs up to blockbusters. Have you seen his upcoming slate, Jack Reacher? That sounds like a real stretch for Tom.

@ShardLake I agree about Reacher. Reacher is meant to be a giant, all muscle, tall, etc. And he's being played by Cruise. I don't mean to sound like an arsehole but, he's too short.

I loved Cruise in Tropic Thunder though, although Downey jr was the highlight of the film for me.

I assure I'm not the only one that thinks Cruise was better than Hoffman in that film and there is nothing wrong with me mate! Playing afflicted people is an easy win with the Academy and I've seen plenty better from Dustin in his career.

Day Lewis blew Hoffman's performance out the water the following year in My Left Foot. It's like Hanks winning for Philadelphia, Denzel hard the far more challenging role, Hanks lost a little weight and pretended to faint a lot and got an Academy award for it.

Great actor, don't care about his personal life too much, feel sorry for him with the amount of public criticism he cops. Maybe he does bring it on himself (couch jumping, Scientology video), but he's made some damn fine films and by all accounts is a hard working, dedicated actor and a genuinely nice guy to his co-stars.

At what point in my posts have I mentioned him being gay? I have said I find something
not right about the guy not at one point did I mention his sexuality, so watch what you accuse people of. He can be as gay as he like or not my comments haven't even touched on that part of his life and don't intend to, his sexual choice has nothing to do with me thinking he's a dark character,

I'm not homophobic and take great offence that you would accuse me of it.

thats all i need.... until word surfaces otherwise... and when it comes to celebrity and entertainment stories, they are more credible than CNN - they've been the first to report several celebrity breaking news, including the deaths of Heath Ledger and Michael Jackson....... again - we shall see...... if it turns out that Scientology played absolutely no part in their divorce, i'll admit to being wrong.... but until it's proven, I stand by this.. because when it comes to crazy religious nuts in Hollywood, Mel and Tom sit atop the mountain.

Thanks for reminding me to rent that one, DarthDimi. :) I do want to see it; heard good things about it.

For me, I think a person's private life should not affect how I enjoy their on screen performance. I do admit, though, that all the publicity/news/gossip about Tom Cruise over the years had left a bad feeling for me; sort of like a sour fog hanging over him.

It won't stop me from seeing his movies (I recently enjoyed Ghost Protocol). I have never been a big Tom Cruise fan, but that is my take on him as an actor, not based on what we think we know of his personal life.

Val Kilmer made Top Gun for me, not Tom. But I know it was a mega hit and it was a fun movie. I enjoyed Risky Business, ages ago, too.

Not referring to any particular poster here but just to some people in general - there are a LOT of guys that always use the "closeted gay" insult about Cruise.

One of the most difficult things in Hollywood is to find a movie star who appeals to both men and women. Find a guy who's too tough and women generally don't like them as much as men - say, like Clint Eastwood. But find a guy who women love and a lot of guys get angry and hate that star, such as Cruise when he was younger (I went through that myself in the 80s; and look at how angry some people here get about how attractive women find Daniel Craig to be!). Sometimes you find a guy who guys find to be non-threatening and both guys and girls like them - for instance Michael J Fox. Or sometimes a guy so "manly" and cool that guys like him and don't mind that women like him too (like Jason Statham or Clive Owen).

Cruise isn't as tough or badass a persona to appeal to some guys in the mainstream public so they denigrate him with the "must be gay" insult. But a writer (Morton?) had Cruise followed by private detectives for two years (!) and even went through his garbage (!!!) looking for proof that he was gay - and could find none (so his book had to "settle" for focusing on Cruise's involvement with Scientology).

As I said to a coworker who would always refer to Cruise by using homophobic slurs (his wife always found Cruise incredibly sexy since she was a teen) "You know, he should be your idol". Katie Holmes, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Mimi Rogers, Rebecca DeMornay...he's slept with pretty much every woman that my co-worker has had a crush on over the years! As I said, if sleeping with them is what it is to be gay then sign me up!
