James Bond on Blu-Ray

This whole thing is an absolute con. I was going to buy it to have a nice set but I think I might just get the missing blurays I havent got instead.

Although has it been announced anywhere that all the films will be available individually? It may be the only way to get OHMSS and TLD will be to buy this set in which case I think I'll draw the line because then EON are just taking the piss out of me.

I was all ready with a fistful of cash to buy this set if they had gone to the effort of making it unmissable but as it is I'm thinking 'meh'. Just goes to show the shocking lack of foresight in the marketing department as if you cant bring out a product that someone like me wants who has bought the films on VHS, VHS widescreen, DVD special edition and ultimate edition how are you going to attract the casual fans money?

Have a look at the Star Wars bluray box set for how to do it properly. Say what you like about Lucas but he doesnt scrimp when it comes to extras and special features. 3 extra discs of stuff - for a series only 6 films long. At least he gives the fans an incentive to go out and buy what they already own time and time again. EON are just giving us a paltry 2 hours of new extras, a nice box and a worse version of CR than whats already out there.

And the definitive version of QOS seems to have disappeared without trace and is unlikely to be seen now until the discs are reissued again in say about 4 or 5 years time.

The individual copies of the films have to be available; there's no way that the only way you can own them is by purchasing the $200 edition. I have to own at least GE on blu-ray.

@RC7 that alternate ending every Bond fan has been wanting to see for the past few years that we can only find at the end of the video game version of QoS

Not going to happen. At least not until Craig has long gone, if at all.

@RC7, that's what I've been saying. I doubt we'll see it for a long time, if ever. Hence, the best thing you can do is watch the ending of the video game version of QoS.

I was considering buying the set as it was 50th anniversary, but whats the point spending all that money on a set with less special features than I already have and in a year or twos time they'll be released separately again probably

The second edition of Casino Royale was announced in July 2008 so we may still get the new Quantum Of Solace release, I haven't given up hope, not yet anyway.

As for this packaging, it's average. A big annoyance Die Another Day doesn't have it's other features added back in. Why were they taken out for the UE in the first place?

My bet is EON will put something better out after Bond 25, the 'silver' film, or the 60th anniversary. I'll just hang on until then to see what awaits us.

Im really annoyed about this anouncment, I bought the whole set because I thought wed get an updating of all my special edition dvds but they have only taken some of them out. Can you get a refund on a pre order?

Pretty big purchase for something you weren't sure about. I'm not sure about the pre-order cancellation, but be sure next time.

There are no features missing from the Special Edition DVDs, only some from Die Another Day that were taken out for the Ultimate Editions.

A little disappointed there aren't new 50th covers. Instead just books. Its efficient, but for 200 dollars I don't want efficient, I want art!

I was hoping for a couple of things. The packaging looks awesome, but I really wanted to see the original theatrical posters for each films as the covers for each individual film box. Thought it would've been nice to have them all together for the 50th anniversary.

I also just wanted to see more deleted scenes. We've all heard rumors of things like the OHMSS roof-top chase that may or may not have been lost long, long ago, but its simple things like including the deleted scenes from CR and QoS. Even in the big, pretty awesome deluxe version of CR they included a decent amount of deleted scenes, but still left out a few that were even shown in the trailers.

Stay tuned folks - the 'special features' list released the other day is not complete. More to come... (may just be the audio commentary details and such)

Hmmm...good to know, thanks JP. But I think the majority here would love to see a complete edition of QOS, with the infamous deleted scene.

You have that right. With that, I may muster up the money to buy the complete set. Get all the others, get the definitive edition, and be happy.

@marketto007, you're absolutely right. Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's not going to happen right now.

I really doubt we'll get anything new. The fact all the films are in one Blu-ray package should be enough for us, in EON's eyes. The least they could do is give the proper releases of Die Another Day and Casino Royale.

I've never really been that fussed about the QoS end scene. I mean if I see it, I see it. I don't understand why it's such a deal breaker for people. You'd be able to see it on YouTube within about 2 hrs of it's release.

It isn't a deal breaker; it would just be a nice incentive.

Is it not incentive enough to have every Bond Film in HD?

Not to pay $200 for, no. I already own five Bond films on blu-ray, leaving 17 official ones left. If I can get them all for $10 a piece on sites like Amazon or in bargain movie rental shops, like the local one down the street, then I'll save money.

EDIT: So, it's actually $300, but apparently, you get $100 when purchasing from Amazon. Even better reason for me to purchase the films separately.

What a disappointing list of special features. I may still buy it for the HD plus amazon uk has a good price, but not if the Aussie dollar dives
  • I was hoping for a box with all the films in their own bluray case and with cool original theatrical art...I have ordered the version from amazon uk. Does anyone know if the packaging will be the same as the packaging listed on the usa amazon site. Dissapointed also that the special edition of CR and a new version of QOS isn't included. Hopefully later they won't release a 4 disc definitive version with directors commentary - otherwise I will have to buy another version!...I have the 6 disc box (DN,FRWL,TB,FYEO,LALD,DAD) that came with a fold out sleeve packaging but I much prefer if when they have their own case. The rest of the blurays that were released I have those in their own individual cases and I prefer that. Do studios really think film fans like those fold out cases?...

For those of us in the UK it's £89.99. I don't think you can really argue with that can you? The DVD's were upwards of £300 when they were first released as a box set.

    For me, it is.

Amazon.co.uk has it at £89.99 (less than $150 - about 112€) which is a great price IMO. I don't know about other countries, but in Greece you can't find a newly released Blu-ray disk under 25€. Meaning that bought seperately, it would cost me a huge 550€! It's a great bargain for me and I'm really happy I've pre-ordered it.

The missing bonus features are indeed a disappointment, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

Good to see someone in Greece taking austerity measures seriously.

Well done gt007 I'm sure the Bundesbank will be proud of you.

    Are you being sarcastic?
Not that I have to justify myself to you, but saving up 100€ to buy my 22 all time favourite films in Blu-Ray is something I can afford, after buying almost nothing for personal pleasure since 2008.
The times we live in are very tough and difficult, your insulting comment and attitude are unfair to say the least.

    Indeed. Thanks for spotting that.

I went on Amazon.com to check a hi-res photo of the cover and saw they're now offering a limited edition Hardcover Book with the box-set.

Amazon.co.uk does not offer the book.
