The features for CR and QOS are stipped to the bone.

Could this mean a new standalone release of those films in 'Uber Edition'?

For instance, Marc Forster did a directors commentary track that was never released...

I hope they release QoS on Deluxe Edition like they did with CR. And if they do, then i hope we will get more info about that in the summer.
And if not, then it is really bad from EoNs side...

They should take it apart, clip by clip, and do a completely new edit, with longer cuts, so you can actually see what is going on.

I thought QoS was perfect, so they don't have do that for me.

@#%^ the thoughts just occurred to me!

I'm in NZ (Blue ray region 2) and I ordered through amazon (region 1). I know some studios don't region lock! Will mine work?!?!?!?

You must have ordered from Amazon US. If it is not a multi-region DVD player you plan to play them on then it will not play them. Unless ofcourse it's specifically a Region 1 player you have, which one would probably only find in America or Canada where they have Region 1 DVD's.

It's annoying as some studios don't region lock their blue-rays.

All the Bonds. All the girls. All the action. All in high-definition. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment mark James Bond’s monumental golden anniversary with the release of BOND 50, the complete Bond experience showcasing all 22 classic films on Blu-ray together for the first time ever, neatly packaged into one cool, sleek collectable box-set. The collection will be available beginning September 24th in the United Kingdom and September 25th in North America with additional international markets to follow that week. BOND 50 marks the debut of nine James Bond films previously unavailable in high definition Blu-ray and comes with a dossier of more than 122 hours of bonus features.

Set for release just prior to the theatrical premiere of SKYFALL, BOND 50 will offer a look at the latest Bond film through videoblogs shot with the cast and crew. The BOND 50 collection also provides two all-new pieces that spotlight the history of 007. “The World of Bond” takes a look at the style and attitude that is signature to Bond; pulling together the cars, the women, the villains and the music that have been a staple of these films for the past 50 years. “Being Bond” profiles the six distinguished actors that have had the honor of portraying 007.

Additional bonus content in the BOND 50 collection includes cast and crew commentaries, the behind-the-scenes making of each film, in-depth interviews with every actor that played Bond, a closer look at the exotic locations as shot on-the-set, the women of Bond, the villains of Bond, Bond’s cars and gadgets, music videos and much, much more! The extra space is something but you'd think room would be left for more than one film, everyone knows Bond will keep on going.

There's never a right time to buy the Bond films, so one just has to decide the right time to take the plunge.

I guess they did it because it's the 50th anniversary box set and it should include every film of that period. It's a great idea, I'm so glad they're doing it.

I don't know. I only own five Bond films on blu-ray, I'm just not sure if I want to shell out $200 for this. I may just get the Bond films in the separate blu-ray cases over time, through deals. Will probably save me some money in the end.

I think the 50th is the right time, so in another 50, you only clog up shelf space (or hover space or whatever it is by then) with two sets :)
  • Why is the best film of the series (CR) so chopped down? Don't get me wrong, this is great, and I love seeing EON's effort in making this collection special, but come on. I would love to see deleted CR scenes like Bond and Vesper in the water and the same for QoS which got even further short-sided. I am interested to listen to the DAD commentary, so I'll have to suffer through that film again, and why does TND have over 9 hours of content?! Of all the films, I've got no idea. Ah well, I am excited though. And seeing a great variety of commentaries are cool, especially seeing ones with just Roger, which will be cool to listen too. He definitely has the dedication to do solo commentaries, and I respect him for that. Hopefully Sean and Dan have some commentaries that they were apart of, because I haven't heard one involving either yet.

I knew there was another deleted scene in CR that we haven't seen anywhere else. I have the CR Collector's Edition on blu-ray, and that has a few really nice deleted scenes on it...but almost everything else on the disc really isn't in the Bond 50 set. And where is the alternate ending from QoS, or any deleted scenes from it, for that matter? I'm sure QoS had some type of deleted scenes.

I just think I'll be taking a pass on this box set and purchasing the individual blu-rays. Doesn't really warrant a $200 purchase.

I have the three disc CR DVD so I'll be fine without the special features on that.

But come on! No new features for QOS? I remember Forster saying how he recorded a commentary only a few months after the film was released. And I still really want to see the alternate ending! Not sure about the logic in this...

Honestly, I don't see that alternate ending to QoS hitting the light of day. Your best bet is to watch the ending to QoS, the video game version.
  • I can agree with that. Seriously, Why isn't MGM/Fox releasing Casino Royale Collector's Edtion and the unreleased Quantum Of Solace Definitive Edtion as part of the Bond 50 box set? I know that Bond 50 was supposed to be a "monumental golden anniversary"
box set, but it's not Monumental when studios DOESN'T put all of the features into one set, now we got three movies that doesn't have all of the features (Die Another Day still lacks some special features that was originated on the 2-disc Special Edition DVD from 2003). If it's gonna be a definitive box set, then MAKE IT a Definitive Box Set, and don't put skimping amount of extras for certain films in the set when the others aren't. It's kind've like doing a Special Edition set where every film has special features except for including the 1997/98 editions of GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies, albeit being repackaged and has a trailer as an extra.
  • I meant: ...or using first editions of certain movies in that collection when all others are ultimate editions!

@JamesBond1988, I just don't see the reasoning behind it. And it's nifty that they put an empty spot for Skyfall in there, but a few years down the road, we will have a 25 Film Set, then the 60th Anniversary set, etc. It will never stop, and that's why sets are pointless, unless given absolute reasoning to be purchased. It is a great prospect, just not worth that much money.
  • I'll buy this, be done with it, and then buy every subsequent film on Blu-ray singularly.
  • I know that, but sets are for Definitive stuff, not pointless stuff. It's true, I want to collect all of the Blu-rays, but I rather get them all in definitive editions. I was excited when I heard about the Definitive Edtion of Quantum Of Solace when it was first announced for July of 2010, but that passed, and I hoped that would be released as a part of the 50th Anniversary box set... but It didn't turned out the way it's supposed to be. To be honest, I rather see Collector's Edtion of Casino Royale and QOS:DE in that set than the first releases being re-packaged as part of Bond 50

Check who owns the two movies and who distributes them for home entertainment. Compare to the other 20. There you may find the answers you seek :)
  • Has the definitive edition of QoS ever been released/marketed/commercialized? I want to see it too!
  • I know who owns it, but MGM/Fox are putting them together with Permission (I presume) from Sony. @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7 to answer your question, no. It was rumoredly announced by Fox (it was said from the Mi6-HQ site) and it was supposed to have a commentary by Marc Forester and deleted scenes (including the original ending as I remembered) but nothing came out it since, and as I said, I thought they would make it for this set. I was wrong.

  • This is the news article that Mi6-HQ put out a few years ago:
    Source: http://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=8548&catid=106&t=qos&s=qos

As director Marc Forster previously pointed out, the release of "Quantum of Solace" on DVD and Blu-Ray last year was just the first round and fans should expect a double-dip release later.

UPDATE: Fox updated their listing to redact the 'definitive edition' tag, and have confirmed this is the same Blu-Ray release as occurred in Europe and USA in 2009. This release was not originally made available in Australia. The 'definitive edition' of the movie is now expected around the theatrical release of Bond 23, according to sources.

That time has now come with news that a 'Definitive Edition' two-disc DVD of Daniel Craig's second outing as James Bond is being scheduled for release on 28th July 2010 in Australia.

The new souped-up edition will also feature lenticular packaging.

As with the first release, Fox will distribute the updated title.

There is no word yet on what the special features will be, but fans should expect cast & crew commentaries (missing from the first release) as well as additional behind-the-scenes content.

Perhaps the most interesting possibility though, is the inclusion of the original ending of the film that Forster cut for theatrical release. In it, Bond is seen to confront Mr White and the shadowy Guy Haines at a Quantum-owned mansion near London.

An exclusive still from the cut scene can be found in MI6 Declassified magazine issue #4.

Stay tuned to MI6 for the latest news on this upcoming DVD release.

I think this packaging looks quite nice but i am not impressed that the some of the ultimate edition features wont be brought across and also that we get bad versions of Casino and Quantum. I might have to look into buying the deluxe casino blu-ray.

@RC7, I could only hope it would be like the Collector's Edition of CR: jam-packed with special features, deleted scenes, and finally, that alternate ending every Bond fan has been wanting to see for the past few years that we can only find at the end of the video game version of QoS. I, too, remember reading about that edition a few years back. Sadly, it looks like it won't see the light of day this year.
