I'll second that. I also really hate the bit in the fire engine when he says 'my real name is Bond, James Bond' why would you say that? Youd just say 'my real name is James Bond.'

Particularly grating as hes just said the same line literally 30 seconds earlier.

Best deliveries I could include would be Connery in Doctor No , Moore in LALD and FYEO. Worst would include above Brosnan in TWINE, Lazenby in OHMSS, Dalton in daylights, and Moore in AVTAK, 'and I'm Dick Tracy etc' , embarrassing..

Those are all great but I also liked Moore's deliveries in TSWLM and OP aswell. And ofcourse there's Craig's awesome delivery in CR.

The buildup to and execution of the line in the PTS of DAF is really good aswell.

TLD execution of the line is a little lazy in the PTS though guess it was trying to shake up the delivery of the line and not make it always suave and calm

Roger, hands down, is the best. IN LALD, introducing himself to Solitaire.....excellent. In fact, Roger had the best voice of all the Bonds.

The worst? Daniel Craig. When he said the line, it sounded forced, not genuine.

None.. I liked all of them... Obviously the producers/writers were coming up with different ways to have Bond deliver that line in each of the movies..

When I first saw my first Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, I was transfixed by the whole spectacle, and a big part of that was Brosnan's introduction to Christmas; I thought he was the bees’ knees. Looking back it was cheesy, perhaps even unnecessary, but that is the experience of age, of cynicism. I, for one, hope they include the “cheesy” elements in the Bond films, because I became a Bond fan on that day.

I'm not sure about the worst, and though, for a while, the best was a tie between Brosnan in GE and Connery in DN, I think I may have to give it to Connery. Him lighting up that cigarette makes it so much better for me.

Connery's in Dr. No is simply untouchable (pun intended). But his delivery in GF may be even better because of how commanding and cool it is. It's an iconic Bond moment.

As for the worst... some of you have singled out Dalton's from TLD, but I disagree. Though it does sound rushed, at least he makes it sound like it's part of the conversation and doesn't draw attention to it, something that both Brosnan (in the lift scene in TWINE) and Lazenby unfortunately did. Those two are a tie for the worst imo.

Hmm...I wonder sometimes whether, if you are going to say that line you need to draw attention to it...or at least make it sound cool. Daniel Craig's delivery at the end of CR draws attention to itself. Dalton's may not draw attention to itself but it doesn't really sound cool. Its like he's ordering a pizza.

The best, to me, will always be Connery's opening in DN. Truly fantastic as he lights up that cigarette. In terms of my favorite Bond, Brosnan's has to be the casino scene in GE.

That's an interesting point you bring up @BAIN123. I agree with you a hundred percent that Dalton's does not make it sound cool at all. But I also think that may not have been the objective. Whereas with Craig, I do agree that it very much draws attention to itself but I think that's clearly the point in that instance. In a case where the last line of the movie is that, there is no question what the intent is. It's taking you out of the movie anyway, but trying to do so with a bang.

There are so many ways to interpret this line and the intent behind the delivery. Perhaps that is why there are so many varied opinions.

I agree Dalton's Bond, James Bond could've been better (although I like the way he casually says it). But then he makes up for it a second or two later because he seems really cool with the "better make that 2 line"

He delivered the line better in LTK.

Personally, I prefer it when the actor doesn't make such a big song and dance about it. When it's all " look at me, i'm Barnd, James Barnd", i'm taken out of the films world and reminded that it's all just fiction.

I don't think Dalton rushes the line, he just says it.

Sean in DN is the obvious choice.

Although its contraversial, I quite like Dalton's PTS one in TLD. It comes off natural and not forced in any way. She asked him who he was and he answered. Simple as that. He wasn't worrying about flirting quite yet, there's time for that later - 1st the mission. Unlike others, Dalton wasn't thinking about the previous Bond actors who said that line. His delivery matches his take on Bond, a no nonsense, straight to the point type of guy.

As much as i'm a fan of Lazza, his PTS line in OHMSS is too happy, especially considering the context of the scene - In her state, Tracy really wouldn't care who he is, yet he says it so cheerfully to her!

To give PB credit, his other line in TWINE (meeting Elektra) is probably his best and most natural. This one comes off well.

I get what you mean but with Dalton it just sounded a little flat to me. It was like he (or John Glen) wanted to get it out the way asap. Let's face it, you wouldn't introduce yourself like that under those circumstances in real life - you'd just say "James Bond" or "I work for the British government" (see what I did there :p ). That line IS a bit over-the-top.

However as much as I enjoy Brozza's line in GE, I admit it is super-cheesey the way the music stops when he says it.

I hate the way his ciggie (which is way too long) flops around, and he tries much too hard to droop his eyes in that oh-so-cool way (makes it look like he's trying to look cool, instead of just looking cool). Not the worst delivery by any means (that might be The Living Daylights), but far from the best.

Craig's at the end of Casino Royale is perfect. The cold, hard stare of a killer. And a perfect way to end that film, since it was the story of how James Bond became James Bond.

DAF: The delivery isn't his best--that goes to the delivery in Dr. No, but the set-up and scene around it is the best.

No, I never had a problem with it, one of the best deliveries for me when James Bond was near his absolute best

Couple of examples maybe where I took issue with other delieveries..

'Melina, My Name is Bond..James Bond', Moore, 1981. (a drive in the country)

'Yes, my name really is Bond, James Bond' Moore again, 1985. (to SFPD Police chief)

'The name's Bond................whooosh................James Bond' Brosnan, 1999. (with Denise Richards on that ride thing)

'The Name's Bond, James Bond' Dalton, 1987. (On boat with woman in Gibraltar)

'I'm James.... to my friends (?) (no Bond?) Moore, 1979. (Introduction with Goodhead)

The worst delivery of our favorite line has to be Lazenby's introduction to Tracy on the beach without a doubt. Oh goodness, that dumb grin on his face with that ever-so skippy tone of voice, wow, it's just a mockery, that's what it is. I want to throw up every time!
