This would've fit in with the "Bond begins" angle they were going for, go back to the gun he first used in the book. I thought it was pretty random when the PPK all of a sudden showed up in QoS...

yuoure right, a complete betrayal. have him EARN the ppk.. maybe steal it from a main villain? He feels the weight the heft of gun the ppk.. and Bond says to himself. "this just feels RIGHT".
