Reboot Bond's backstory

Remember this from the time CR came out? I completely forgot how thorough this report was. It must have taken a lot of thought and prepartion especially with all those documents like birth certifictes and the such like.
Makes interesting listening to in light of SF

    It's still online? That's surprising. This was a very good job, I completely agree with you. The level of detail is incredible.

    I would really like to see these reports put into a movie, as a prequel to Casino Royale.

    i still go here at least once a week I enjoy it and considering how poor Skyfall and Quantum of Solace websites are i would prefer The Hildebrand Rarity (Bond 24's) site to be a bit more interactive

    Well, I never wanted to see Bond's backstory or origins on screen, takes away the mistique of the character, always liked the fact there was no origin story for Bond so I am a bit disappointed they went down this route.

    I know some don't want Bond's past explored, but Skyfall did a great job of showing Bond's roots without giving us a full dossier on him and his entire young life. We know more than ever, yes, but there is still tons of mystery.

    We get some heartwarming comments about his parents, shots of their graves and Andrew's gun, and a touching story of how Bond hid away in the priest hole when he learned of their deaths, going in a boy, exiting "a man". This really impressed me about the film and made me smile, putting Skyfall that much higher for me in favorability.

    I think some of the Bond backstory for Skyfall was invented - such as the dilapidated Skyfall lodge with some old tramp living there.

    It's a fictional character, everything is invented! However, it doesn't go against what was known from the books, instead it just added some things. Therefore it was well done in my opinion. By the way, there is nothing indicating that Kincade (I assume that's who you're talking about) lives in the lodge.

    I think your wrong. It would be a terrible thing if Bond spoke about his childhood and his upbringing that would be be disastrous and plain wrong. For him Skyfall is merely a place off the beaten track and somewhere he knows he will have the advantage over Silva, it is quite literally home turf. Bond only has two lines that deal with his past: When M asks if this is the place he grew up he grunts in approval and later says "You already know, you know the whole story". That's it. It is after all Kincade who reveals the priest hole secret not Bond. He's unsentimental about it all almost to a rather worrying extent, after all he tosses his father's gun away without a second thought.

    Going back to Skyfall was a neat trick as it made the character more emotionally interesting while keeping him veiled in mystery. This was particularly appreciated as SF is a film which I think Bond finds himself really dealing with his issues surrounding his own mortality.
