Are you happy to see the DB5 return in Skyfall?

I personally was okay with it in CR as they worked the car into the story quite nicely, but does it deserve ANOTHER return?

That beautiful car will never get old, in my opinion. It's a Bond icon!

I don't disagree, but does it have a role to play in the movies still?
  • The easy answer is yes. It's the 50th anniversary and its a Bond icon.

The deeper meaning, I think, is that it perhaps ties into the whole "Bond's past" theme of Skyfall.

Yes, I am happy to see it return.

It's not so much that it has/needs a specific role... Take a look at its appearance in GE: it had no impact on the plot, and Bond ended up getting that BMW anyway. It's just very enjoyable.

Yeah, they can't have it in every movie (unlike, I would argue, Q and Moneypenny), but it's awesome when it shows up from time to time.

And for the 50th anniversary? It had better be there!

Five words: of course, it's the DB5... :)
  • Is the sky blue? Is the grass green? Who wouldn't be excited. The biggest Bond tradition is the DB5! I'd love to take that beauty for a spin.

I'm for one excited that it seems for the first time since 1965, the DB5 seems to be Bond's "main" car (as opposed to the cameos from GE and CR). I'm very excited about this

If that's the case it makes Q a bit behind the times though doesn't it?

I liked the 70s Lotuses - they were of their time. I just feel a 21st century Bond should be driving a contemporary car.

If anything else it should be there for continuity sake. Bond won it in CR and we should see him drive it again. It's his car. It doesn't have to have any role in the plot. It's just a car. I can only hope they don't fill it up with rocket launchers again.

The db5 has had a good run, time to retire it.
In it's day it was a performance car,now it's like a rowboat compared with the current cars.
  • I can't help thinking that the DB5 is key only to one particular section of the movie which we are fairly sure is:

    Spoiler:
Bond rescues M and flees the length of the Country to Skyfall lodge to get her to safety

Therefore this section of the movie is Bond clearly 'off duty', Fleming's Bond was always a car fanatic, and it's not a stretch that our current 007 would have such a classic tucked away for weekend blasts with pretty girls, it's the epitome of British sophistication and crafstmanship, the perefect choice for me and I'm glad to have it back.

i am more than happy to see it return! Obviously its most likely due to the 50th Anniversary celebration? And rightly so. I would not however expect to see it in Bond 24. Rather a new Aston Martin or Jaguar?

I wouldn't be surprised if the new Q does a bit of tinkering on Bond's personal car and adds a couple of "minor modifications." The modern villians (whoever they might be) would never suspect a vintage car being used for anything other than a weekend country ride which makes it perfect IMHO, plus it would give a new slant on how an old DB5 came to have defensive and offensive weaponry.

Exactly. The Bond of the books drove around a 1930's Bentley to get to and from work and out of London. Bond's fondness for classic cars is an important facet of his character.

  • I'm not a huge fan of the DB5 returning AGAIN, seems like a DAD type reference to Bonds past. And don't tell me they're doing it because in the books he drove an old car, because I really doubt that's why they included it.

They should've left it in the past as Connery's car.

As long as it gets scarred, as the fotos we got suggest...

That is quite an interesting point.

the Aston in Casino was a American lefthand drive. The one in this movie--supposedly the same car--is a righthand drive. So........?

Poor continuity - it's part of the heritage!

Oh come on, it's the same car! Next people'll get miffed if the color is just a tint off on the gray scale.

I did notice the car in GE was more grey than GF silver...

"DAD type reference"? Not at all. The DB5 is Bond's car. It's what he drives to get around like some drive a Vauxhall or Toyota.

Any way, if we're gonna have the DB5 then why not bring back some of the old Bond girls as well?

    Britt Ekland perhaps?

Haven't there been enough horses in Bond films?

    I hear she's still a good ride.

Her bridle needs adjusting, her gallop is dodgy, and her hoofs are scuffed. And don't get me started on the horse. ;)

I met Ekland on the street I lived on a few years ago. I must say that she looked pretty good for her age.

No, i'm not happy to see it return, becuase the DB5 is now so overused (much in the same way that the Daleks are at times overused). The same goes for the Aston marque. Bond needs to step away from Aston Martin for a while, even if he slips behind the wheel of a Jaguar for a few films.

Mind you, if I were Craigs Bond, i'd have traded in the DB5 for one of these babies....

Except it wasn't for years, and it was only bought back in GE and CR as a cheap way to try and get more people to see the film. I wouldn't mind so much if it was just Bonds personal car that he drove around a bit, but apparently it'll be the main car with gadgets in.

Should've bought back the Vantage, it's a nicer car anyway (even though it would make me a bit sad if anyone except Dalton ^:)^ drove it)

The thing is, neither film needed the extra attention. People flocked to GE after that long wait and they were just giddy to have a Bond film released again, and for CR you had those who went because they were either Bond fans, Craig fans, Craig haters who hoped to watch him fail on screen, and the common moviegoers. And I don't remember any extra promotion of the DB5 before the releases of either film.
