I don't care for these new covers either but Bond has survived a plethora of crappy covers, he'll survive these.

The second to has nothing to do with CR, but you better watch what you say about the last cover @MrSpy. Ian Fleming designed it himself.

The 1st Edition had an ugly cover. Bond was still successful.

Ashamed to say that a (small) part of me is glad these aren't that great. I was about 4 novels short of having a set of Penguins and as I always thought that Vintage did a good job with their Classics covers I was expecting to be torn between getting the Vintage or Penguins. No such dilemma as Vintage have clearly dropped the ball here. I think the colour choices are really bad, particularly on Moonraker, Octopussy and FYEO - the latter two would be pretty good if they changed the colour scheme IMO. Here's hoping they do better with the covers for the standard editions.

With the 60th anniversary of CR's publication coming up next year, hopefully Vintage will do a hardcover re-release with the original covers, or a boxed set with the originals.

Yeah, I don't understand why they won't do this. Maybe IFP just want to confine them to the glory days of Bond. Maybe it's a sentimental issue.

Even one cover over the coming years would be great. So the 60th anniversary of each novel gives us the original cover reprinted. That would be really great. Who knows what else is being planned for next year?

I must say, these latest are far better. Very nice indeed. It's been so long since we've had something worth buying on the cover front.

If I didn't have the novels, I'd most certainly buy them.

Those are very cool. I still love my Fleming centenary novels, but these are a great bunch as well.

They don't seem to go to much effort with covers these days do they? I would love the original hardback covers from the 50's and 60's reprinted. Why can't they do this?

The 2002 and 2006 cover arts were also excellent.

Really? I think they are so unimaginative, and some of the titles are absolutely botched.

I like their simplicity a lot. It´s almost like symbolism. And the colours are killer.

The line, "There is only one Bond" on the new covers is rather ridiculous.

Wow, I hadn't even noticed you said black-and-white until re-reading your post. I was linked to the generic ones, the colored ones that seem all split up with the words. They look terrible.

As for the black-and-whites, DN, TB, and OHMSS look pretty cool, and, unless my eyes are fooling me, it appears that it's supposed to be real locations/a person on the cover, not a drawing, correct? If so, I've never cared for books with covers like that - always preferred drawings.

It would be nice if these paperbacks were released in a boxset - don't think the missus would be too happy though, I already have three full sets! Maybe just get copies of my favs.

I'd love to see the back of those to be certain but I feel, on the whole, they're just as good. A really nice looking collection. A set hasn't looked this good in a very long time.

Might be worth posting this here. The November GQ magazine is giving away a Vintage paperback of Goldfinger. It's the 'colour' cover, not the black and white photo one.

And surprisingly now that I have that copy I don't hate the design quite as much as I did when the covers were first revealed.
