Question about images and copyright

    I know that Mi6 has been careful about copyrighted material. My question is: how are the editors able to post copyrighted MGM/Sony photos on the main news site without catching hell?

    Does it have to do with fair use? I notice that MGM is credited with a watermark at the bottom of each photo, too. If you do this, are you in the clear?

    I'm just curious about the matter.

    No - permission is still needed from the copyright holders. Regarding the MI6 website, we're unable to discuss specific copyright arrangements here on the forum.

    I see many members have MGM material in their avatars, so i take it that the copyright issue has been resolved.

    @AndrewLucas That's fair enough. I wasn't looking for details, but just for a general idea on how it works. I had always assumed it was something to do with fair use, as I see many fan news sites around the Net using copyrighted material, but always acknowledging the owners of the material.

    This is not the case. We are in the process of moderating all copyright material in avatars.

    Just Bond images are banned. Any other copyright material I believe we are allowed to use.
