Renner is very good so may be this won't be so bad after all. As much as I love Bond, it is plainly obvious that the Bourne Trilogy is far superior to anything to come out of the Bond series for decades. Sad but true.

I'd gladly take QOS, my least favorite Bond film, over 'Identity' anyday. IMO, only 'Supremacy' rivals the Bond movies made since 1995.

All three of the original Bournes are excellent, although my favourite remains Identity. They are, incontrovertibly, exceedingly well made movies that blow the entire Brosnan and probably DC era out of the water. In many ways they were doing things that the Bond series should have been doing but was incapable of. It is frankly unfair of me to even compare them to the recent Bond films, especially QoS, which so obviously and rather incompetently 'borrowed' so much in terms of story and style from Bourne.

Personally, I like all three of the Bourne films but I kind of like the first one the most, it feels like it could have been a one off film.

I simply wish they had just gone with a new series altogether with Renner. Why finish a trilogy only to keep going on a different note.

Just start with the different note and create a new film series.

Renner is a very good actor. He deserves more than the fag end of Bourne.

I don't think it will do bad in theaters but it may not do as well as the others. It'll be fine and I see a sequel with Renner. Right now, Renner and the film, are probably being treated the same way that Lazenby and OHMSS were treated when people first heard about it.

I hope this films critically fails, and takes a hit financially, though knowing the average moviegoer's brain it won't. I love you Tony, but WHY?!

The thing that makes me somewhat enthusiastic is seeing David Strathairn, Joan Allen and Albert Finney reprising their roles from the previous film(s). Also, knowing Scott Glenn will be back as well, doesn't hurt my anticipation either.

I'm very glad the shaky cam is gone. It's got to the point now when it's more fresh and original NOT to use it.

I'm unsure about this film, but think about it this way. If Bourne is successful and Tony does a good job, then maybe Damon or/and Greengrass will come back for a 4th (and hopefully 5th, 6th 7th, etc) film. Plus, like @DarthDimi said, people from the past films are reprising their roles, would they do that if they thought the script was bad?

If the money was good? Ah hell yeah! And the money will be good.

This may not seem like much of a reference to some, but in the Fast & Furious series, they pulled it off too. Number 2 didn't include Vin Diesel, number 2 and 3 had neither Walker nor Diesel. Then there's Brewster and Rodriguez. Yet all of these films made loads of money.

A quality film is what matters most. Yes, I know, having a few big names floating around never hurts, but it stands to reason that the absence of Greengrass and Damon doesn't necessarily have to imply an inferior film!

The one thing I might hold against this film right now, is Powell being replaced by James Newton Howard. Of course James Newton Howard isn't a bad composer but Powell had the right 'Bourne' vibes going IMO. They will be sorely missed by yours truly as I'm a huge fan of the previous scores. Also, they better have Extreme Ways still closing the film!

Lastly, I've read on various places that people complain about the makers of these films milking the Bourne cow even after the third and supposedly last entry of a trilogy. Two remarks: A) Several Bourne novels were written over the years. This somewhat legitimises more films, no? B) We of all people shouldn't use that silly argument. After all, we're avid fans of a film serious that's made itself notorious for having spawned on average 1 film every two or so years over the past half a century...

I didn't know that about Powell. :(( And Extreme Ways really better play after the film. It's even called "Bourne's Ultimatum" now! I understand that the absence of Paul and Matt doesn't constitute a bad film, but you have to understand my hope is low considering this film never needed to happen and ruined a so called "trilogy" by feeling the need to toss "Bourne" in the title. And yes, there have been many Bourne books, but only The Bourne Identity is good at all. Even Ludlum's Supremacy and Ultimatum are terrible, and don't click on this unless you have read the novels:
Supremacy doesn't even have Carlos the Jackal in it and Ultimatum doesn't even have Bourne kill Carlos hand to hand after all the trouble he's given him. Instead Carlos is tricked to escape down and tunnel and Bourne's ally at Novgorod shuts of the tunnel, funnels water in, and kills Carlos. BS. Then one of Lustbader's, "The Bourne Legacy" in fact, where both Conklin and Panov(his greatest allies) are killed and he is framed for their deaths, and in the same book WE FIND OUT THAT THE CHARACTER REVEALED AS Khan IS ACTUALLY BOURNE'S SON FROM HIS FIRST MARRIAGE THAT HE THOUGHT DIED IN VIETNAM!!!!!!!! So really, there is only one good novel, the first one. Read "Identity" and that one only, because you will be sooooooo disappointed if you continue to read the others.
    I've said my piece.

"The thing I particularly enjoyed about the Bourne films (especially the first two) was the weather beaten, gritty European scenery of city's like Paris, Prague, Moscow and Berlin in winter time. It was really unique, I loved it"

    Well said. Me too!

I've read and really enjoyed all the Bourne books so far. Identity was the best one but the others were great too.
Although I hated the way Carlos was killed too

I'm unsure about this film but the way I see it, if it works then we get a good film, so that's great, and it could lure Damon back in the future. Maybe even Greengrass will return.

Here's a picture of Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig....

Oops, my mistake. That's Jeremy Renner in the first official image of Weisz’ mysterious character, Marta, standing next to the new Bourne.

I'm really looking forward to The Bourne Legacy. I love Jeremy Renner, and I hope he makes the continuation of the franchise enjoyable, so they dish out a few more films.

Lame rip-off of Bond when Renner runs across the corridor while being machine-gunned... like the scene in CR in the embassy when Bond has to push Mollaka in the corridor...... Bourne copies Bond now....

something we actually agree on, but there are gona be similarities between the two considering they're both espionage films, but let's face it, this has no chance in hell of outperforming skyfall.

@TouchMyButtons, worldwide, Skyfall will crush. Domestically? It's possible. I'm not downing Bond - I prefer Bond over Bourne - but, out of the three Matt Damon starring Bourne films, and the previous three Bond films - DAD, CR, and QoS - both Supremacy and Ultimatum grossed more domestically than did CR and QoS.

Isn't that the outfit Bond wore whilst tailing Dimitrios in CR?

@doubleogo, I was going to say the EXACT same thing earlier, but I didn't want people to confuse me with someone who constantly compares Bourne and Bond. But yes, that looks exactly like it.

I love Bond's jacket in that scene. Thanks for the screen grab, @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7.

Is that the grey shirt he wears on the boat after
    Vesper's death
    in CR?

I assume everyone has seen the movie, but I just wanted to be safe.

I don't know about this film, it just doesn't excite me that much! I loved the Bourne Identity as well as Supremacy, didn't like Ultimatum too much. And now a Bourne without Bourne! And the trailer didn't do anything to increase my curiosity, if anything it cooled it even more.

The Bourne movie will arrive first so Bond23 knows beforehand how well it did. I will spend money on this Bourne vehicle.

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, is it bad that I really love that shirt, even though it's a simplistic grey t-shirt?

He most certainly does. I was shocked when I bought that new navy blue polo the other day and felt a slight tinge of looking like Craig when I put it on.
